I think Takeover Target is the king. He won at Group 1 level in each mainland state, not to mention his OS record.

His great rival Apache Cat was well travelled also winning multiple Group 1's up and down the Eastern seaboard, and ran 2nd to TT in the Winterbottom. Was also placed in a HK sprint. Didn't race in SA.

As mentioned, Ortensia has won at Stakes level in each mainland state.

The aforementioned Reckless won the Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide Cups, and was placed in the Melbourne and Perth Cups. An amazing feat in itself, but doubly so when you consider he was trained by Phar Lap's strapper.

Kingston Town was well travelled winning in 4 states, but didn't race in SA. There are a fair few who have won in 4 states actually.

When forced to include Tassie, and considering only Stakes race wins, the best I can find is a well travelled and very popular horse who won in 4 of the 6 states at Stakes level.

We'll leave that as a trivia question.

There may well be a horse that has won in every state. Just that there are few publicly available older records of non-stakes races. Very difficult one to track down.

Corporate James was another well travelled racehorse who may well have won in a number of states.

He won in Perth and Tasmania along with his cup win at 40/1 with 48 kilos.

He was a 6 year old then and all of those wins were in the same calendar year.

Interesting looking through the Stud Book records for Tassie races.

The 1866 Launceston Cup was won by a horse called Strop, foaled in 1861. Same horse won the race in 1869, 1874 and celebrated a decade by winning it again in 1876. I'll be stuffed if that isn't some kind of record!

"The 16.1 hands gelding Strop retains a special place in AAMI Launceston Cup folklore. He made his racing debut when winning the race as a four-year-old in 1866 and added three more victories in this race – in 1869, 1874 and in 1876. He was the first to complete the AAMI Hobart Cup-Launceston Cup double and it’s remarkable that he achieved these 1876 successes as a 14-year-old."

and a story on strop from this link
