Hi all, bit of a newbie question here!

Have been looking at past performance information and I am confused about the meaning of some of the comments given, specifically:

- hung in during race
- hung out during race
- struck intereference
- blocked for run
- tightened for room
- dissapointed for a run
- pulled hard

Some of the above seem to overlap somewhat, for example what is the difference between striking intereference and being blocked for a run or tightened for room?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

When reading the form guide, if seeing those comments if you then peruse the Stewards report as a whole you will get abetter idea of what happened. The Sportsman has most current reports and they can be accessed on line http://www.risa.com.au/

Blocked for a run, would mean the horse is going well but can not get a clear run. You see the jockey has a pretty good hold of the horse but he only has horses bums in front of him.

Striking interference and or tightened for room would mean they have a clear run but than a horse takes its running, closes a gap or forces it wider or inward.

If when reading that brief report in a horses form, have a look at the video or if that is not available have a look at the Stewards reports. You will get better idea of the severity of those comments.

- hung in during race -Had a tendency to want to run toward the rail. Head turned inward.

- hung out during race -Had a tendency to want to run toward the outside fence. Head turned outward.
- struck intereference -Hit or got hit by another horse.
- blocked for run -Jockey could not go forward as other horses were blocking the way.
- tightened for room -Jockey had to ease to avoid contact.
- dissapointed for a run -similar to blocked for run.
- pulled hard -Horse wanted to go faster than the jockey wanted, normally early in the race, eg,race might be 2000m & the horse was fired up going too fast early, so pulled hard against the jockey efforts to relax him.

Most of these are self explanatory, no?

I reckon you've got the "head turneds" the wrong way about.

Hmmm,

I think the best advice was to watch the videos yourself and make your own 'stewards comments'.

I'll give an example of a horse I tipped at Kembla in the tipping comp that failed in Deal For Real; ( whats new ).

It failed because it got badly galloped on and fell back through the field and the jockey forgot about trying to win from that point. No mention of this in the stewards report at all! The stewards merely implied it by talking about the horse that lost two front plates during the race by galloping on Deal For Real. Nine days later Deal For Real came out and won yesterday at 4/1.

Only your own video watching and reporting gives you that winner. I'd have preferred the 15/1 9 days earlier myself....  sad

Just a suggestion but maybe the mods can set up a folder with info for new comers to the racing/punting game?

A thread like this could go into it.  Also info on form where to bet etc.

Maybe everyone could post something they wish they knew when they first started rather than finding out the hard way?

Thoughts?

Yes agree. Always wanted to know how many look at the odds and come up with the percentages offered in a flash.
e.g. bookies betting 150 or 118%

Same here.

I think rad offered some advice, maybe it was on the old forum.

Might have been to only look at the top four or five in the market, and then add something for the rest.
Won't give an exact % but a ballpark one.

Sadly lost too many brain cells to hold the table in my head, even for the four or five. embarrassed

Just divide the dividend into 100% ie 5.0 = 20% . . . and total them

Easy enough with 'round' numbers . . bit more skill required with 3.2 = 31% etc ( may need some memorisation for these)

If you go to the track it is easier still . .

If a set of 'Flucs' is displayed on a screen the %age will be shown at the bottom
