TABCorp have kindly offered the forum 3 x $400 prizes for tipping comps this year.

I have been asked to run these comps on behalf of the forum, and quite happy to do so unless someone has some objection.

Would like to keep the current 1-4 selection format because the software depends upon that, but the comps do belong to forum members, so please place any suggestions you have on this thread.

I think the parallel "knockout comp" chalky sponsored last time was quite popular, or we could have a variation - Wenona was suggesting a Grand Prix type comp.

Many thanks to philby for arranging these prizes.

Will post a schedule soon.

For the first comp, I think we will run it for 9 weeks over the following dates - this parallels the Star Stable comp:

Day Date Meeting Venue No. of Races
Sat 03/03/12 Australian Guineas Day Flemington 8
Sat 10/03/12 Chipping Norton Stakes Warwick Farm 8
Sat 10/03/12 Super Saturday Flemington 9
Sat 17/03/12 Randwick Guineas Warwick Farm 8
Sat 24/03/12 Coolmore Classic Rosehill 8
Sat 31/03/12 Guineas Day Rosehill 8
Sat 07/04/12 Golden Slipper Rosehill 9
Sat 14/04/12 Derby Day Randwick 9
Sat 21/04/12 Doncaster Day Randwick 9
Sat 28/04/12 Sydney Cup Day Randwick 8

The Brisbane Winter Comp will start straight after that.

Hi PP7

I will provide the same prize again for all 3 TABcomps ie 50% share in a $50 bet of the winners choice for the highest place profit total for the duration of the comp.

PP, a few thoughts...

1.  I would not expect anyone to be rushing in to usurp your position.  Your efforts in the past have been highly commendable, IMO.  Please continue.

2.  I think the "up to 4" selections on any gallops, harness, dog meeting covered by Tabcorp is the way to go?  Or does inclusion of other codes complicate things from your end.  Your call.

3.  Again, that's generous of TAB to provide the largesse to dole out. Thumb Up

4.  As to criteria for prizes, best net result, etc, should be the main game, IMO.

A couple of things to think about as extras....

To add to interest on the final day, could all preceding days serve as qualifying round.  Maybe the return for each qualifies for the final on the last day.  There might be the same guy scores twice, or three times, but that's no matter.  The thinking is that there's still good reason to try to win on each day, even if ya way behind the overall leader.  Obviously requires additional admin on your part, but doesn't seem to onerous.

The knockout comp is worth looking at again, IMO.  To encourage competitors for the opening day, why not have all those who post tips on 3/3 be eligible for the knockout comp?  The trick would be to end up with just TWO competitors on final day.  We would need 512 starters to do that on a 50% reduction each day.  We won't have that many.  What could be done, is decide the opening day of the knockout based on the number of entrants on day 1.  For example, if we had somewhere between 32 and 64 starters, the first meeting for the knockout would be Coolmore Classic day.  Some might have byes.

Leave it with you.

Thanks Sharkie. Much appreciated, and importantly appreciated by forum members, on whose behalf I run the comp.

Or does inclusion of other codes complicate things from your end.

As he's up at 2.45am doing the numbers, waiting for the last at Cannington dogs should be a piece of cake.

Thanks DD for your feedback. Some good points there.

1.  I would not expect anyone to be rushing in to usurp your position.  Your efforts in the past have been highly commendable, IMO.  Please continue.

After running these since July 2008 DD, I might be starting to look for a usurperer to emerge  lol  I've committed to this year (and am looking forward to it), but we might review as 2013 approaches. Certainly if anyone feels they want to have a go at running the comp, let me know via a PM.

2.  I think the "up to 4" selections on any gallops, harness, dog meeting covered by Tabcorp is the way to go?  Or does inclusion of other codes complicate things from your end.  Your call.

The collation of results might become too complex DD, not to mention too late. I'd like to stick to the existing format.

3.  Again, that's generous of TAB to provide the largesse to dole out.

  Thumb Up

4.  As to criteria for prizes, best net result, etc, should be the main game, IMO.

  Thumb Up

I'm happy to run a qualifying / final series based on some pre-determined system - as an overlay to the main profit comp (for which the $400 donated by TABCorp will be the prize). It is a great idea. Qualifying comp weeks 1 to 6 where two points for a win, 1 for a draw, and weeks 7 to 9 a final four series?

And no reason we could run a knockout FA Cup style comp over the top of that.

Would even suggest someone can run those comps on a separate thread using the data from the main comp. Looking for volunteers and prizes  Undecided

PP, just reading my diatribe, I meant to say:

To add to interest on the final day, could all preceding days serve as qualifying round.  Maybe the WINNING return for each qualifies for the final on the last day.  There might be the same guy scores twice, or three times, but that's no matter.  The thinking is that there's still good reason to try to win on each day, even if ya way behind the overall leader.  Obviously requires additional admin on your part, but doesn't seem to onerous.

Was thinking just one per day, but obviously there are many options.
