If they follow the Victorian example, the apprentice (Rodder, C Schofield) will be made an example of, while the trainer (Laing, Waller) will get a couple of half arsed questions then nothing more.

They asked questions and Waller said he decided on leading with Mr B after talking to previous trainer (in NZ).

Stewards have adjourned matter until they obtain info from that trainer together with videos of his races over there.

Bolinger as it was known as over there, always raced in front or on the speed.  wink

embarrassed I don't think Schofield will be made an example of, at the most both Waller and Schofield will get a slap on the wrist. Thumb Down

Can't see why this would be any different to the hundreds of other cases.
Really, what can a trainer do if he has a front runner & back marker in the same race? If they go too slow, it'll favour the front, if they go too fast it'll favour the back. Not rocket science.

Unless they have prior race evidence then what can they do? Given Waller is the top trainer, who has numerous runners in many races, races are bound to look suspect from time to time.

The jockey is always the most targeted so maybe stewards will suspend him if they think the race looked odder than normal.

EZ,

The race just looked hot, the way he had such a long lead on the turn, then the stablemate (who firmed late I believe) runs on late to win.  Certainly, I thought it hotter than the race at Moonee Valley, but maybe the sectionals will tell a different story.

BTW, why isn't Peter Mair on this thread, surely this is right up his alley?

From RNSW today

Racing NSW Stewards Adjourn Inquiry Into Mr Bolinger

From Rosehill Gardens (Saturday, 11th February 2012)

Racing NSW Stewards today studied videos of the New Zealand racing career of Mr Bolinger (NZ) and by telephone interviewed New Zealand trainer, Ms Terri Rae, relative to their inquiry into the tactics adopted by apprentice rider Chad Schofield on fifth placegetter Mr Bolinger (NZ) in Race 6 (ATC Foundation Members Handicap, 1300m).

Ms Rae gave evidence that she trained Mr Bolinger (NZ) in its 11 New Zealand starts and that she had a telephone conversation with Mr Bolinger’s Australian trainer, Mr Chris Waller, after the gelding raced back in the field and performed disappointingly in an official trial on the Kensington track on the 27th January 2012.

Ms Rae gave evidence that she advised Mr Waller that Mr Bolinger (NZ) must be ridden in a forward position to perform at its best. Further, she advised Mr Waller that Mr Bolinger (NZ) has a history of being lethargic from the barriers and needs to be hunted out to take up a forward position.

When questioned, Ms Rae agreed that Mr Bolinger (NZ) had on occasions then shown a tendency to over-race when ridden forward in some of its New Zealand starts due to being somewhat inexperienced.

The inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed when rider Chad Schofield and trainer Chris Waller will be further interviewed.

Is Big Time in the race to set the pace for Said Com today ?

Said Com does not look to have the pace in the race that he did last start.
