Blake Shinn moves to Sydney
2 April 2007 Racing NSW
Racing NSW reports that Melbourne jockey Blake Shinn will join the Gai Waterhouse Stable next Monday.
Now 19yo, Shinn became the first ever apprentice to win the Scobie Breasley Medal in 2005, following his second to fellow apprentice Nick Ryan in the Victorian Metropolitan Jockeys' Premiership - the first time two apprentices had finished first and second.
In 2005, Shinn won his first Group 1 race on Demerger in the Adelaide Cup. Shinn won the 2005-06 Victorian State Apprentices' Premiership with 103 wins. He rode 34 metropolitan winners, finishing second to Ben Melham (43) in the Metropolitan Apprentices' Premiership.
Blake Shinn will make a permanent move to Sydney this weekend and will able to ride down to 52kg. The Waterhouse Stable said that Shinn can be booked for race rides by contacting Reece Murphy on 0425 855 585.

Shinn to miss Doomben features Brad Waters Monday, 11 May 2009
Top jockey Blake Shinn will miss the Doomben Cup and Doomben 10,000 meetings after being suspended for careless riding on Saturday.
Shinn was suspended until May 29 and fined $500 after being found guilty of causing interference aboard Rabbuka in the Chairman’s Handicap.
Shinn decided not to appeal his suspension. Last season’s Sydney premier jockey will miss the ride on Rabbuka in the Doomben Cup and Bank Robber in the Doomben 10,000, who he rode to a narrow defeat in the BTC Cup on Saturday.
Swiss Ace’s trainer Mick Mair must produce a vet’s certificate before the gelding races again in the aftermath of Swiss Ace’s dismal BTC Cup effort behind Duporth.
Mair told stewards Swiss Ace had pulled up with no problems but a Queensland Racing vet’s examination found the Oakleigh Plate winner to be coughing after event.

There is the explanation Strange to comment, that the horse has pulled up fine with out having blood tests taken and or the horse being scoped, could be anything from swallowing a clump of dirt in the run to a throat infection or even a bleeding attack

When was Swiss Ace gelded? It must have been sometime between Saturday and whenever Brad Waters wrote this.

Yes mate, did notice, he didn't want to go into the gates, haven't noticed him do that before, but I haven't really paid any attention to him behind the gates before either Also last start sweated up badly, which I also haven't noticed before, maybe had enough , or may even have a virus which can cause horses to act abnormally, but when they do something out of the norm, normally means something is a miss. Coughing after an event is always a worry

It's quite suprising Bundy didn't post on here that Swiss Ace looked terrific behind the gate before backing Duporth

Shinn links with Bart's Stradbroke roughie Brad Waters Monday, 1 June 2009
Last year’s Melbourne Cup-winning combination of Blake Shinn and Bart Cummings will reunite with Empires Choice in Saturday’s Group I Stradbroke Handicap.
Shinn was originally booked to ride Belong To Many in the $1 million feature but after the mare’s disappointing effort in the BTC Cup, trainer Gai Waterhouse elected to send her to the spelling paddock.
The 2008 Queensland Derby winner will go into the Stradbroke Handicap with just one run under his belt when 14th in the Doomben Dash on May 9.
As of Monday morning, Shinn’s only other confirmed ride at the big Eagle Farm meeting will be Marveen in the Queensland Guineas for Caulfield trainer Robert Smerdon.
Punters can back Empires Choice at $81 with Luxbet.

Going freelance. Will still ride for Waterhouse stable but not exclusively.
Hard to believe he's still only 22. Seems like he's been riding successfully for years. Sort of has I guess !
