Racing NSW reports that Melbourne jockey Blake Shinn will join the Gai Waterhouse Stable next Monday.
Now 19yo, Shinn became the first ever apprentice to win the Scobie Breasley Medal in 2005, following his second to fellow apprentice Nick Ryan in the Victorian Metropolitan Jockeys' Premiership - the first time two apprentices had finished first and second.
In 2005, Shinn won his first Group 1 race on Demerger in the Adelaide Cup. Shinn won the 2005-06 Victorian State Apprentices' Premiership with 103 wins. He rode 34 metropolitan winners, finishing second to Ben Melham (43) in the Metropolitan Apprentices' Premiership.
Blake Shinn will make a permanent move to Sydney this weekend and will able to ride down to 52kg. The Waterhouse Stable said that Shinn can be booked for race rides by contacting Reece Murphy on 0425 855 585.
