Seeking The Gold, the sire of the horse the Godolphin Stable rates as clearly its best ever widely and one who is regarded as one of the finest gallopers of the past 20 years, has been retired.

While the outstanding champion Dubai Millennium was undoubtedly Seeking The Gold’s greatest creation, he is also the sire of such star performers as Seeking The Pearl, Heavenly Prize, Flanders and Catch The Ring, as well as three Breeders’ Cup winners.

In Australia he is best-remembered as the sire of Ustinov and Secret Savings. The 23-year-old finished his stud career at Claiborne Farm where he was raised. A son of Mr Prospector, he won more than $US2 million from victories in the G1 Super Derby, the G2 Dwyer Stakes, the G2 Peter Pan Stakes and the Swale Stakes.

He finished second in five Grade 1 events including in the Breeders' Cup Classic behind Alysheba. Seeking The Gold's European impact was felt most keenly courtesy of Sheikh Mohammed's four-time Group 1 winner Dubai Millennium, the leading prize-money earner for his sire. A favourite of the Sheikh's, he won the Dubai World Cup-Gr1 by six lengths, only sired one crop before tragically dying from grass sickness.

In that crop was the Guineas winner and current Darley stallion Dubawi, whose first crop will see the racetrack next year.
