There are lots of eagle eyes following Brisbane Racing on this Forum.
Let's see if they can identify some performances that might lead to a winner in the coming weeks.
(Forumites who aren't fortunate enough to live in the Sunshine State are free to open their own copy-cat thread at any time.)

Everyone's seen it, but for the record, we have to record the unlucky run by COLONIAL LASS at EFon Saturday.
Pearson had ridden her a treat from the start, and coming to the turn I said to a mate "how far Colonial Lass?".  But soon after straightening, Willie took the wrong option.  He made a move to come around the two leaders.  No sooner had he done that and Sister Catherine decided she'd move out, taking CL with her.  Had Willie stayed where he was, CL zips through and wins by 3.
She's a pretty handy mare.
After being injured in the run referred to above, Colonial Lass came back from a spell to run a very creditable 3rd at EF last Saturday.  Looks like she'll be another winner for the Heathcote camp in coming weeks.

Yesterday we saw a ROTW that had flashing lights all over it.
Three-year-old YASS RIVER turned up for his debut at Gold Coast in a 1200 m Maiden..  He began pretty well, and settled fourth, one-out.  From the 600 he began to drop off, and turning for home his chances looked 100/1 for the place let alone for the win.  Even in the straight one would have thought he'd finish closer to last than first.  However, in the last 150 he remembered all he'd been taught at training and flashed home for an amazing win.
One super effort. Looks as though he'll be following in the footsteps of his illustrious stablemate, Lachlan River.
Another nice win today, very well spotted DD

I know you've been backing him from day one.  Was heart-attack material today for those who took the shorts.
Let's hope he can grow a little bit and he'll win some more.

I'm going back to Wednesday at EF for the ROTW.
We all saw 4yo mare NEPRO run a flashing 3rd in the Gai Waterhouse at Royal Ipswich in Cup Day at 100/1.  Most put it down to a fluke, given the speed of the race, etc, etc.  Next up she ran 2nd to the smart Nasrulluh's Girl at Caloundra.  Since then she's won two at EF from bad draws.  While jockey Sheree Drake has covered plenty of ground in both, the horse has been too good, and won both in convincing fashion.
Dalby trainer Matt Kropp has NEPRO racing in rare form.  A Saturday win looks in the offing.

I thought MAJORCA was pretty impressive yesterday and showed some real dash when Powell could no longer restrain him and he kept going right to the wire.

He has a touch of the Bikkie Tin Blues 2006 about him with this purple patch of form.

Yes, the-kid.  Horses do have that effect on their owners.
As Alifly ranged up I thought ....  $25 a place on this would have been a great bet for the Punters' Club.

EF disappointment LALETTA is scheduled to have a re-match with quality filly NOTRE AMOUR in the 3YO C6 at Doomben on Saturday.
Apprentice Coome has retained the ride on Laletta, despite the criticism he received for his last ride at EF.

Better get this thread back to the top, too.  Plenty will be searching for it.
Today's press reports that ROMAN SQUIRE (discovered on the Brisbane Racing threads) is in Melbourne and will resume at Flemington in the Bobbie Lewis Quality.
Local hoop Brad Pengelly is keen to get involved and will be importing new gear for the ride.  "It is probably not his race but I wouldn not feel very well if he won" said Pengelly.

Smart filly NOTRE AMOUR is scheduled to try again on Saturday after her barrier tantrum last week.
She has the minimum in a C6 Plate at 51.5 kg.  Apprentice Adrian Coome is booked to ride with a 3 kg claim.  Wondering if he'd get anywhere near 48.5.

Disappointing run by Notre Amour yesterday.  Hope she's OK.  And on the subject of the jockey engagement, I note from today's press that A Coome claimed NIL of his 3 kg.  I'm surprised stewards allowed this engagement.
We have spoken previously on the Bryan Guy 3yoFACUNDO.  He looked very smart winning the first at GC today.  While the fast speed suited a back-marker - he was way back - he powered home the last 400.
A city winner for sure.

Agree dubbledee - provided he can actually get to a city meeting at some stage.

He is still learning what it is all about and was throwing his head about a bit before the turn. Looked good down the running though and managed to break the class record.

The second horse was also a nice run after being attacked all the way when they were going mad up front and it probably has a future as well.

Only got run down in the last few strides.

Tim Martin's lightly-raced mare TEASING scored rave reviews when Joshua Jones steered her to a win at Doomben early last month.
She must have been "billetted out" in Brisbane 'coz she's accepted for EF on Saturday. No jockey notified as yet.
And speaking of "Billett", can anyone recall the good horse ridden by a jockey of that name?

This fellow's been around in everything, and has been a consistent performer over several seasons.
The run by General Patton on Saturday was an eye-catcher.  Lumping 58.5 kg we saw him rocket home from many lengths behind the leaders on the turn to be beaten a lip for 3rd.
He might not produce such a sprint next outing, but looks to have benefited from his recent EI shot.

Danehill stallion OCTOBER SKY resumed in the last yesterday and was just nutted by the short-priced fav.  He couldn't have done much work in the lead-up, and the race looked too short for his style of racing.  We should see him in the winning list shortly.

From: dubbledee Sent: 25/02/2007 1:54 PM
I thought we'd give the ROTW to a Bryan Guy 2yo gelding named QUALOSUN. As the name suggest he's by Sequalo.  He didn't show any speed and coming to the turn his backers would have been reaching for the brandies.  Once Byrne got him into the clear he steamed home to win well.  Dunno where Guy will head with him, but I see more wins ahead.

Well this one belongs in both best ride and best run category but Cardio yesterday was a good thing beaten and in a similar field next start will win. Yes I backed the horse yesterday( win only) but if you saw how the saddle was on return and the replays you have to thank K. Pope for getting so close.

I'm gonna go outside the obvious and make BITOFASMARTIE this week's winner.  In the first at EF yesterday, although potentially suspect at the distance, he was taken to a long lead mid-race by Rachel Mason. He would have been10 lengths in front at the 1000.  Coming to the turn he appeared to be showing signs of distress, and looked gone to the world with Moon Echo cantering alongside him.  But he refused to surrender and Mason kept him going to win by a nose. Amazing effort.

MagiC informed us that this fellow was spelled due to injury following this run.

He's scheduled to return to racing at EF tomorrow (R4#2).  Best of luck to horse and connections.

I was quite taken by the win of CARNEGIE RAIDER at the Gold Coast in a 1400m maiden yesterday. The time was nothing flash, it was the manner of the win and the turn of foot from about the 300m that was impressive to my eye. Brian Guy looks to have a good 'un in this grey Carnegie gelding.

I mentioned WEST OF HOLLYWOOD in another post - it won at Toowoomba on Friday by a big space and ran 51.01 for 900m a full 0.9 seconds faster than the previous race also over the same trip.

"dubbledee

I do have some reservations about the depth of the race but:

Not a bad run by the Idol in Race 4 yesterday either - finished the race off well. He could be in for a good prep this time in.

There were a few good runs in that race at face value aside from the winner. For example EASILY DONE made up good ground - probably needed a hotter speed up front and got too far back. Down To Earth and Bit Of A Smartie ran okay as well.

I guess Latin Idol's run was what we'd expect from a stayer fresh.  I've been watching the steed for many many months and he's a dead-set one-batter.  I'm thinking of dusting off the hurdles at EF to make him something to bet on.  I wouldn't be backing him until he gets over considerable distance.
Yes, Easily Done went much better outside horses yesterday.  He's a pretty talented fellow and will win a race shortly.  The odds might not be too flash, though.

When you get a chance can you have a look at a replay of Eagle Farm Race 2.
The horse in question is no 10 Millimac, colours are green shirt, with red diagonal stripes, yellow sleeves and a red cap.
I backed this one on saturday and it was checked twice in the running , blocked behind horses, and had no luck(not sure if jockey may have contributed) but it was a "be on me next time run".
Could be included in black booker.

Got a fair sort of check at around the 350m then another about 75m out.
Probably still would not have beat the winner but I'll throw it ino my bb and post when it runs next.

Ms K Banks didn't have a lot of luck on Millimac.  As gratlog said, the checks in the straight didn't help at all.  The field finished in a bunch and there were several good runs.  Had Millimac got the breaks she would have been in the finish.  I guess we gotta be a bit cautious about a 6yo mare who's won just 4 races.
Prawn
Yep, was a classy performance by Quizzical Lady.  She set a hot pace and it took a very good sprinter, with a good run, ridden to perfection, to beat her.  Looks like she'll score again pretty soon.

The Swiss Ace race will undoubtedly throw us a lot of winners in coming weeks.  The winner turned in another top effort, and Hey Elvis and Another Centurion won't be long out of the the winning list.
I'm gonna give ROTW to one who finished just behing the placegetters.  MORE ON THE TOE is a lightly-raced 3yo in the McLachlan camp.  Having just his 6th outing he wasn't well away and had to be hunted along to stay in touch.  He had no breaks from the turn and was entitled to turn it up.  Taylor kept at him and he finished on very well.  By More Than Ready there's no doubt he'll be better over longer distances.  Stick with him.

We discussed Easily Done last week.
Yesterday he backed up for his third run post-EI in 3 weeks.  What a run it was.  He was almost last on settling, and Forrester opted to go forward.  Everything when wrong and he was posted 3-wide for the entire journey.  Turning for home he was under pressure to keep up but in the straight he kept coming and ran a solid 3rd.  Had he run 6th, it would have been a commendable performance.
Easily Done is a coming winner for sure.  He'll go up to 1800, at least.  Give him a draw and an even break and he'll be getting the chocolates.

Yeah, Grumpy, Swiss Ace is a smart performer.  He was attacked in front when he won well at EF recently.
I thought he was vulnerable yesterday at the added distance under the weight, but he got a cheap middle section and that paved the way for another win.  There were some good runs behind him, just the same.

Looked at the LEATHER run again. Was an honest efffort, considering Ms Taylor has to ease him from the jump.  Bold Reason and a couple of others finished better but he didn't shirk his task.  He always seems to be good odds, and will be worth backing when he drops a grade.  I guess we gotta remember he's had more than 60 runs.

Those who get my tips know I was keen on Shaun Dywer'sCHOSEN GODDESS last week at Doomben but she ran unplaced.
She was first up.  Bookies were knocked off their stands when they put up 10s and she was in to 7s in a flash.
As expected she got back, but I liked the way she ran on.  I like her, and think she'll be winning soon over a distance around 1600m.

Gonna give this week's award to 3yo filly PENTACITY for her Maiden win at EF on Wednesday.
Having her 2nd run from the EI-break she went back to the tail, a mile from the leaders.  McMahon could wait no longer at the 800 and he took off on a searching run to be chasing the leaders at the 200.  She strode through the going like a very good horse to win in a canter.
The track was almost certainly in her favour, but she's bred to handle a distance, and should win again very soon if  Bryan Guy continues with her campaign.  Maybe she's an Oaks prospect.  Looks a classy filly.

This week's award goes to the Sunshine Coast 3yo, BLACKWOOD'S CHOICE.
Having just his 4th run, and returning from a break, he faced a pretty hot field at EF on Saturday.  In the words of trainer David Peoples "I was going to trial him but decided he might just as well have a run."  Neither of the horse's owners bothered to attend the meeting.
BC was so far back even his most ardent admirer wouldn't have given him a show.  The fast-run race might have flattered the run to some degree, but his effort to sizzle home and get up on the line was something to see.  He's a smart performer.
Dunno where this fellow's been hiding, but he's an acceptor for Sunshine Coast tomorrow (R6 #11)

Heading to Race 9 GC for this week's gong.
In July at EF we saw 4yo mare LAILA'S DREAM spreadeagle a good C4 field over 1851m.  She went to the front, and it was Omintrader on steroids plus a transfusion.  It was a remarkable performance.
Her first run back was at EF on 22/12 in a 1200 race.  The distance was too short, but I put her in quaddies etc just in case.  She didn't do a lot - about what one would expect for a stayer first-up.  Yesterday she appeared at GC in a 1400 C5.  I considered her but figured she'd need another run.  Well she didn't.  Ms Purdy rode her to the front again, and that was the last they saw of her.

Yes, very good run by More on the Toe.  We talked about him a coupla weeks back.  Give him some space and distance at EF and he'll be winning.
I like Organised's run, too. Maybe he was flattered by the run of the race, so let's keep that in mind.
I noticed that one of our SC mates took Cayman Island down to GC.  Haven't looked at the run yet.  Nice odds.

Agree Organised had the race run to suit but I liked the way he stretched out in the last 100m or so.

Cayman Islands looks to be pretty green still but did not enjoy the best of trips and was a mile off them on the turn then was held up momentarily - hit the line hard to my eye.

I had a little bit on More On The Toe - got too far back. Needs more ground and a bigger track like EF should definitely be to his liking. He's had a few chances though.

There were a couple of others that went okay in that race too namely Hey Elvis and Barclays. Could be a decent form race.

From Rockem's race, Just A Classic looks to have returned in good order and the Hornblower finished off well in the Omnitrader race.

No one would have missed the run of MAJORCA in the third at headquarters yesterday.  He'll be winning shortly when he gets up in distance.
I'm going to the same race to give the gong to WINSOME LOOT.  Ms Taylor found herself in noperson's land most of the way, but the old fellow still ran on well.  Get him over a mile when he can lead, and he'll be a winning chance.Maybe at a bit better odds than Majorca..

I think Scott may have thought he was on Ethereal and running over 3200 mtrs.
Don't like to be too critical of a Melb Cup winning rider but Seamer doesn't seem to be riding with much confidence these days.

This fellow's accepted for EF on Saturday.  Again, the race is just 1400 m.  He's tackling a couple of smart ones in Hey Elvis and Heart of the Citi.

I'm giving run of the week to 6yo LEICA LAUNCH.
Saturday's was his second outing since a successful trip to Rocky.  The 1350 was too short for him, but was no surprise to see him steaming home.  This fellow's improved in recent campaigns and looks set to add to his 9-win record very soon.  Get him over 1600+ on a soft track, and he might even be worth backing for the WIN.

I'm plumping for Lion Hunter 5yo UPILIO for ROTW.
This fellow's doing very well for Liam Birchley.  Yesterday in the main race Seamer had him 3-wide from the outset.  In the straight he had the audacity to make a run at the leaders, even looking the winner inside the 200.  But his run ended and he wound up 4th.  Give him a draw on a firm track and he'll make short work of a sprint field.  Don't even write him off as a chance in a big race at EF in early June.

Yep it's already in my BB thanks along with the first starter from that race, Alexandre and POT.

GO never got a crack at any stage - lightly raced I notice.

Bann Ruby was a very nice run in Race 7 after missing the kick and Red Sea in Race 4 dashed sharply after being shown the whip.

Sebastien is progressing nicely and is capable of winning a race in town over a suitable distance.

I'm giving ROTW toLITTLE STRANGERfor his brave 3rd to tough warriors Fulmonti and Majorca at EF on Saturday.
Stepping up to 1800 from his 1350m Dbn win on 2/2 was expected to be a major hurdle for this fellow - who happens to be a younger brother to top class sprinter, Hard to Catch.  He went to the front and set a solid pace, and looked gone to the world on straightening.  To hang on under the conditions was a mighty effort.  I doubt he'll be long odds next time he steps out.

There were some noteworthy performances at EF on Friday last - DESDEMONA, NERICON KING and RUMBA JACK to name a few.
But I'm nominating ex-Vic 4yo SHOOTING SCENE as the one for the gong.  Plenty queried his previous form because it was on wet tracks, but those who saw his win at Doomben weren't perturbed.  Nathan Day brought him wide on the turn, and he had a pretty bunch covered in a few strides and powered away.  He'll win again, soon.

Couldn't believe Gold Omega $4.30 the place in NSW.

He is close but I reckon Cat Eyes has had its win for now and benefited from having a good run in transit. GO would go better with cover I'd reckon. Did not exactly get its own way in front today either.

I see from your earlier post reference to Nericon King - it is in at the GC (against one of my bro's horses) tomorra - will be hard to beat on its first up run but likely to be odds on I'd think.

Little Stranger will find that barrier tough from the 1820 if it starts - though if ridden aggressively early to take advantage of its early pace and get into a position in the lead or on the pace could run well nonetheless.

Shooting Scene is up against Post On Tyne another forum favourite - just nailed last start when big odds on BF dammit! Still it is up 400m in distance (again), so a tough ask.

Apart from the Northern Rivers horse there's not much else doing in that race. Would expect Shooting Scene to be odds on even though to 1800 for the first time.

Don't get me started dd!

The way that Sky treats GC and Toowoomba races is a disgrace IMHO. A race from Mildura was deemed more important last Saturday when there was a clash. Surely that is what TVN is for? Why does Sky have to duplicate in such situations for gawd's sake?

If Toowoomba is running late and there is a clash bad luck to Clifford Park, then if Kembla is running 7 minutes late then sorry Gold Coast we might show the last 200m or whatever even if you are running on time.

Add insult to injury they don't bother to replay the races on TRT either.

Yes, as mentioned elsewhere it was a great run by Privileged Class.  He's a very smart colt.  I notice his dam is Wild Lady.  My addled brain tells me she was a handy Brisbane mare, trained at GC maybe.  Anyone got info?
Agree all about Atapi.  He's going like a rocket.  His wow factor would be somewhere near that of The Jackal.  Wonder if we'll see him this year?
I'm going away from the headliners for ROTW.  It's in the Lombardy race.  There were some great runs in it.  Anyone who has the film should take a peep at the run of the horse in the maroon with white armbands and white cap.  Name is ROCK OF MUFASA and was paying $40.  Had Galloway got a run anywhere in the last 200 he'd have nearly won the race.  He's won $170,000 in 9 wins from 40 starts.  I reckon it'll soon be 10.

Little Stranger did the job in the first after a nice ride from Palmer (who's now down to 2 kg claim).  His older brother Hard To Catch is a great chance at GC tomorra.
The much-awaited metro debut for Nericon King brought a sound win.  This fellow looks a real prospect, provided he mends his barrier manners.
Shade disappointed in the run of Rock of Mufasa, but I guess he couldn't meet the jump to 1600 and significant class rise.
I'm giving ROTW to Liam Birchley's 4yo ZAZZ.  First up since Aug, he jumped brilliantly and immediately tackled favourite Rock On Bye.  They staged a great struggle with the mare scoring a points decision.  Zazz's run came as no surprise to me. We got a taste of his ability on Melb Cup day 2007 in a Doomben Mdn when he chased home Al Be Nimble, with Prince Leo a distant third.  He was an acceptor for SC today in a 1000m C1 with 58kg less 3 for Mitch Speers.  I think he mighta won.

Liam Birchley produced a contender in the next race as well. Blue Jupiter ran second to Nericon King in class record time - not a bad effort and this horse looks to be on an upward spiral. Sure it had barrier one but it was back in ground yesterday.

Rock On Bye also ran a class record but Nericon King actually ran faster time. Not a bad effort for a bunch of 3yos.

Whydidyouleaveme ran a nice race in the 2yo.

Going wider I reckon Arbuckle can win soon provided it has a change of rider. Never got a crack yesterday and they ran much faster than the other division.

It's always helpful to know what others think as we don't all pick up the same things from watching races and replays. Not that we need to follow all the leads but  often they can help find a future winner .Not that I benefitted from this one,  but Sectional Times  gave Chinchilla Rose as a horse to follow from Doomben on 15/3 and it saluted at Randwick on Sat at juicy odds.Others given favourable mention by Phil from that meeting have performed well since .Upilio and Wind Shear yesterday and the ones he pots like Rasmussen,  beaten fav Sat, was an opportunity to lay one on Betfair. ST is not a tipping service, it's much better IMO and well worth the sub.

Good luck with your ST, Muggins.
I've seen them over many months - and they weren't worth the paper they were printed on.  The guy who was a subscriber cancelled first chance he got.
We never hear of the all the horses to follow who are total losers.
And the perennial question - if they're so good, why is Mr Purser needing to get money for them?  End of discussion.  (I know: he's a philanthropist.)

Yesterday I was going down to Waterford and a truck cut me off when he changed lanes without indicating. When I pulled up beside him at the next set of lights I noticed a sign on the side of the truck "Justracing.com.au".
Pays to advertise but I meant to email Phil when I got home and abuse him, as I had to have someone to take my anger out on.

I gave ROTW to Leica Launch after a sound effort at Doomben last month.  Although he ran 3rd at good odds on March 1, I've been disappointed in him.
However...I've always thought he'd go better over ground, and today Troy Hall has stepped him up to 2030 m.  He's claiming 3kg, and we know the horse excels in soft ground.  Let's see if he can do something today.

Back in August I nominated FACUNDO as a horse to follow.  He then ran 3rd in the big Maiden at EF, then bolted in at GC at a restricted meeting in September.
He's resuming today in Race 5 at Doomben.  He failed at SC at his debut run in March last year on a SLOW track.  I wouldn't read a lot into that.  His run was still quite good finishing on from way back.
Today's race won't be easy, but I think we should stick with this colt and he should be included in multis.

It's info not available elsewhere.  Wearing a scientist's hat I'd first want evidence that the information is accurate.  Any one can throw up sets of sectional times from a video.  Until we get the sort of stuff that Melbourne has, their accuracy is highly questionable IMHO.
And again, if they ARE accurate (and useful) why not use them yaself and retire to the Coast as opposed to hawking them to unsuspecting punters.  The question that NEVER gets answered.

Liam Birchley produced a contender in the next race as well. Blue Jupiter ran second to Nericon King in class record time - not a bad effort and this horse looks to be on an upward spiral. Sure it had barrier one but it was back in ground yesterday.

Good one, coins.  I thought the post was gonna come up to quickly.

This fellow is going around today in the 8th at Caloundra.  It's an even race with plenty of hopes.  He might not have run the mile at Dbn last week.  Will definitely be including him in multis today.  Galloway has stuck.

Did you see Commander Love is in the last?  The Les Ross stable is going OK.

Though I have reservations about the trainer I thought the run of ALBERT THE FAT was very good.

Wide for much of the journey and stumbling round the turn this horse did an admirable job to fill third placing.

Lightly raced there are some good formlines around this horribly named Magic Albert colt.

Yeah, coins, Albert the Fat look OK at the end, but I thought his run might have ended.  The win by the Maiden galloper was excellent of course.  We've spoken already about Facundo on this thread.  His performance was very good and everyone saw it.  We won't get the big odds next time.  He'll be among the better ones over the Carnival, I reckon.
I'm giving ROTW to Facundo's 2yo stablemate KWILA SUNRISE for her win at Ipswich last week.  Having only her 2nd start she was out the back early and looking no hope.  But in the straight Byrne brought her wide and she came with a big burst to score running away.  The cattle behind her might not have been much, but I can see KS saluting again before too long.  Don't miss her.

Yeah, qwerty,  Good run.  She can do that of course.I had her going for a squillion in the last leg of the quaddie at Caloundra Cup day last year.  Sydney mare Vegas Showgirl won the race from memory.
I'd give ROTW to Bryan Guy's mare, LASORON.  Back from a lengthy spell she was friendless in the betting yesterday and got no favours in the run, carrying her 58.5kg.  She looked likely to win when she started to finish wide out but Vietnam had enough in reserve.
Lasoron is a classy mare, and along with her stablemate Bareena should keep the Qld flag flying high.

Thanks dubbledee - ROTWs have been going okay recently.

Albert does indeed try hard and though he was 3 wide yesterday he had cover and that man Holder came with a well timed run yet again.

My candidate this week is NOSTRUM from Race 5. Although now a 5yo this Ashkalani gelding is relatively lightly raced only having had 17 starts. He seems to be in career best form and on an upward spiral.

His first up win at GC was a cracker when he bolted in despite being held up rounding the bend. He backed up that effort yesterday making up many lengths to finish 3rd in smart time over 1000m which is 200-400m short of his best.

Look for in a 0MW or Class 6 over around 1200 next start.

From a future winners point of view I liked the run of STEEL LIPS yesterday in Race 2.

Eligible for maiden class this 4yo son of Sequalo was only beaten a touch over 3 lengths in a 0MW race finding the line quite nicely at his second run after a let up.

This 4 race veteran beat home the disappointing and only slightly unlucky Morning Colours who it seems just doesn't fire second up. The time and sectionals were almost identical to Race 3 which I reckon was a quite deep 3yo race with many in form horses engaged (HEY ELVIS is obvious from that race).

STAGE SHAKER from Race 8 is also warming to the task nicely and ran a good third yesterday (bless 'im and the $5.50 on BF). He is more suited at EF and is looking for 1800 - 2000. Next run will be his fourth back so he should be primed.

RUM DUM and ULLADULLA should also win races in Brisbane.

The opening Maiden didn't look much on paper, but Ron Maund saddled up two who had failed miserably on the SC Cushion track 5 days previously.
Gold Edition look-alike, Identify, was pretty short. Ms Price took him to the lead soon after the jump and she walked in. (And looked smart.)  On the other hand, Bel Espirit gelding THE TOPPIE bungled the start, almost fell, found plenty of trouble, yet still ran 4th.  I doubt the horses around him were much chop, but he should be picking up a Maiden very very soon.

Bryan Guy has LASORON in a 1600 m Quality at EF on Saturday.  She gets in with the 53 kg minimum.  Taking on some wily handicappers, and has a return bout with Vietnam.  She's found another ordinary draw.  I doubt she'll be at her best, yet, but look out for her big finish.

No "horses to back" from Brisbane racing in today's C-M.
I'm giving ROTW to OUR JANGLES.  She's always shown ability, although needs speed on and is probably better on a soft track.  She got those conditions on Saturday, but even so wasn't entitled to win from where she was.
Dunno if she'll get many chances over the Carnival.  Maybe there'll be a race for her on her SC home track.

She is better over further than 1000m and it will only be a matter of time before she breaks through in town. She tries her heart out.

Good news that More on the Toe is an acceptor for SC on Wednesday.

Get ready for some wins on this fellow.

Should win BUT he is a backmarker but as someone else said:

"The gelding More on the Toe has undeniable ability, but getting back so far out of his ground and running on like he does only serves to add to the superannuation fund of the bookies."

I backed him a few runs last campaign and did add to the superannuation fund of the bookies.

I hope he wins a few this campaign and hopefully does not get too far back.

I've been having a good run with them.
One Eyed was one that we had some money on last Saturday but we missed out on that one. Left Standing was another that was at good odds. It paid around $4.90 place

Scriven was masterful on Rum Dum IMO. It takes great balance to wedge a horse through a diagonal gap and continuing its momentum. He LOVED the win too.
Jim Byrne + Atapi would have probably won the Hart Stakes if he had wedged him through rather than running up their asses then moving to the outside.

Agree with Muggins - BARCLAYS was a tad unlucky, partly because of a slow get away. If placed in the right grade and jumps cleanly will be tough to beat.

EASY ROCKER was ridden upside down by Stephen Baster (why?) and wasn't too bad under the circumstances.

There were some exceptional sectionals recorded in a number of races Saturday throwing up some surprising abilities in several lower rated runners and a couple of higher profile ones might be best avoided in future engagements. No secret that Mr.Hornblower ran the quickest last 600 marginally ahead of Helideck.  Sectional Times  find  lots of winners and long odds placegetters since I discovered it probably 4  or more years  ago .I dont know what system Phil uses but  I expect he has a stop watch  and uses video replays. The resultant reports are very helpul in identifying efforts which are not always apparent from the finishing positions. It throws up lots of big risk horses to be avoided at their next run or to lay if you are that way inclined.IMO it's an excellent service.I wouldn't be without it and neither should you.

Using video replays? You mean he is hand timing? If that is so then it can't be 100% accurate.

How can he tell precisely (and precision is important) when each horse passes the 600m as I'd be surprised if the video replays show each and every horse passing the 600m mark in races - I may be wrong.

I am not potting him but simply trying to establish how he does it, if it is not a trade secret. If I was a subscriber, I'd want to know exactly how reliable the info is.

to am interested to know how he does it.
Cause if he is working it out in Lengths and then converting it into seconds, i hope he realises that 1 length will not always equate to the same amount of seconds per length.
The faster they run home their last 600m will change how many lengths equates to 1 second.
For example a horse running home at 33secs for the last 600m will cover 7.5 Lengths in 1 second.
a horse running home in 38 seconds for their last 600m will cover6.6 Lengths in 1 second.
And if hand timing from the 600m to the finish you have the problem of having the correct angle at the 600 to know exactly when the horse passes it then you also have to know when they cross the line exactly.
So either options are open to some pretty big flaws in getting the correct calculations for their last 600m and i doubt he could accurately caculate it to a point you could be confident of getting correct timings.
But i could be wrong, he could have some other method
edit: I hope the post made sense

Crikey! You blokes are  inquisitive.I would like to be able to answer your questions but alas I am  not in a position to do so. Whilst the method  may be a trade secret  I doubt it  and as a humble subscriber, not party to the internal workings, I would not ask and don't want to know. What I do know is the results show that the system works. An enormous amount of work is involved in presenting each weekly report which is full of information and it's up to each one of us how to make use of it.This week's report is chock full of info and I'll be a poor judge if it doesn't throw up lots of winners in the coming weeks.

I think he has some sort of millisecond break down system installed somewhere. Not often that you question the sectionals of horses that he presents.
I'm not exactly sure but i believe its some sort of fractional photo thing that some technological device of his figures out. Every frame or something.

Anyone who's got a hide and an alarm clock with a second hand  can draw up sets of so-called sectional times and sell them.  But only some can put their head on their pillows at night and sleep soundly.
To my knowledge, Brisbane's (official) sectional times are limited to the final 600 metre split.  These are electronically timed.  Distances are adjusted when the rail is moved.  But these times are leader to winner.  Times offered for individual horses for different distances are merely guesswork.
Sydney and Melbourne have precise individual times for 100 metre sections.  Full credit to them - they're of unquestionable critical value to punters and officials.  Those who suggest they have similar stuff for Brisbane are kidding themselves - as well as the fools who pay for the stuff (if there are any).

Whats the chance of getting a system like that for the Brissy tracks DD ?? Would be an excellent addition to the tools Brisbane punters have to work with, and would put a stop to inacurate sectional times being produced

You're te Treasury for EF arn't you DD ... surely you could find a little left over for a system like this

On a serious note though, what would a system like this cost to setup ?

Crikey ! Progress at last. Agreement there is merit in sectional times. The Sydney and Melbourne ones are an excellent service, sometimes the timer fails  and individual runners miss out. Phil's system never fails. The added advantage of Sectional Times from Phil,is comments on every runner you don't get that in the other ones.
I'm surprised at you doubles mentioning guesswork in a punting forum. You'll be warning us off listening to 4Tab next or  discounting Bart's opinions

From the sidelines, it's apparent that introduction of sectional time technology has been on both metro clubs' agendas for years.  However, it would be a hugely expensive exercise - which for the moment would be outside the financial scope of either Club.  Furthermore there is the possibility than one or both tracks will undergo some "realignment" in future, e.g. if it was resolved to add a second circuit inside the current course proper.  This would be the time to build in the necessary electronic systems.
Also, I'd expect many would hold the view that electronic sectional timing is an "integrity" issue, under the control of Stewards.  If that's the case, funding would be appropriately provided by QRL.
(BTW...that's a personal view. If you want the view of the QTC Treasurer, I suggest you contact QTC.)

Thanks DD,
Appreciate your personal view, and can understand it would be a large finacial and structural undertaking and am not expecting anything like this in the near future .... but it would be one nice feature for the horse trainer and brisbane punter to help them in their endevours

Could not agree more, MagiC.  We've been discussing it on here for years.  (Muggins seem to think STs are something that have emerged last week.)
But they're gotta be accurate, rather than something that's a guess.
In days gone by, I'd think numerous jockeys and trainers were given "stretches" for rides or runs that were incorrectly interpreted by uninformed Stewards.  Times such as are available in Syd and Melb would have been an irrefutable basis for exoneration.

I think just as importantly are sectionals through out the whole race not just the last 600m of a horse.
A horse that runs along to quickly in front will not be afforded the opportunity to run home a slashing last 600m, so knowing how quickly they are running along in the early and middle stages i believe to be more important then knowing what the last 600m a horse has run home in ... and you will find all these horse that are wrapped up for having run the fastest last 600m on the day in a slowly run race will fail miserably when the pace is on.
A good example of this was Holindale Cup where through my claculations where running along at 12.9 to the furlong before running home in 33 something, compare that to the Brissy Cup, i backed Rampant Lion in both and was disappointed with Scrivens ride in the Holindale as i expected him to lead and be hard to run down ..... he made ammends his next start at a much better price though
So really i couldn't care less about what they run their last 600m in, but am more concerned about how quickly the race was run and what the horse's did after that

Crikey! How time flies ,four years or more that's how long I've been getting ST's.Last week that's a pretty wild distortion.Stick to the script in future.
As for the QTC or BTC  talking about it, that's believable.
Personally I think it should be a QRL" initiative " if you could call it that when the service has been available through Sportscolour in Sydney and Melbourne  for I don't know how  many years now .Its also possible that this technology is patented and can't be used by Qld clubs, there may be some interstate rivalry like UNiTAB encountered with its flexi betting system forcing them to go to South Africa for it.
QRL has threatened not to subsidize either club's administration  to the extent of $1m ea past next month unless amalgamation occursAnd Bob didn't sound too pleased with the QTC when he sounded off to the Minister recently So don't expect any handouts for this from QRL
.In the meantime Phil's service is available for anyone who wants it and I reckon its OK.Sometimes I feel like the Christians must have felt in the coloseum in ancient Rome

There's lot of stuff that could be shown on a screen when "real time" sectionals are available.  There's also a need to limit what's shown to what's useful and digestible while watching a race.
We've discussed this stuff ages ago, and I think I said then that in race-watching Heaven, I'd wanna see just 2 time-related things on a screen during a race.
1. The current speed (in secs per 100 m) e.g. 5.63
2.  The speed since the jump (to the current point) e.g. 5.76
We thus have the speed they're going right now and the speed since the jump.
I also recall someone commenting that such data is already on screens elsewhere around the globe.  If so, good for them.

That would be Punter's Heaven DD,
But i think i would want it in furlongs, as from a racing background everything is done in furlongs and my little brain would have trouble doubling the 100m times on the run

Yeah I've been following him with interest - his first up win was ridiculously easy - less so 2nd up.

The first time at 1200 for him and he has found a tough field. He does have a favourable draw though.

Robert Thompson was aboard Heavenly Glow when it seemed to miss the kick.

He was also on DANCE GIRL DANCE in the last which missed the start badly. Not renowned as a backmarker DGD finished off very well over the 1400.

Watch her if she happens to get conditions to suit next time.

Russeting wasn't a bad effort even though it got beaten. It carried its fair whack of weight and had to do a bit of work which would have taken its toll, resuming from a let up,

The winner had a fantastic run in transit from the wide gate. An exemplary ride - you won't see better, and oh yeah, apparently the money was on.

I'm giving ROTW to the gallant warrior, Rampant Lion.
Attacked in front by a horse who had no hope (IMO) he could have been forgiven for skying the towel on the turn.  But not Rampant Lion.  I hope he's pulled up well and we see him at EF on Saturday in Tatt's Cup.

Sorry DD, Muggins,

But I have to disagree with some of the comments of the run of Rampant Lion in the Cup ..... don't get me wrong, I love the horse and backed him because i thought he was a dead set moral.

Everybody says he was attacked in the lead, but nobody wants to mention they walked up front at 12.82 to the furlong before running home in the fastest last 600m of the day 34.9.

He only beat the other horse who supposedly had no chance and supposedly attacked him in front, by 2.8 lengths

I think the ride by Scriven was ordinary, if he wanted to lead he should have not gone to the front and slammed the brakes on, if he does this the other horse would have been happy to take a sit.

When the other horse Down to Earth quickened to try to cross Scriven, Scriven kicked up to hold the rail and may have been better off to grab hold and let him cross, why he didn't, i have no idea.

I truely believe RL may be over the top and if he does start in the the Tatts he won't be getting my money .... he did the same thing last carnival and tappered off after some really nice runs, I think it's time to send him to the paddock  but I may be wrong and maybe he needs to be ridden with a sit, i guess i will be proved right or wrong if he goes around in the Tatts Cup

Anyway just by thoughts.

Isn't it good that we can all express our different views on here in a calm, collected, manner without attacking the messenger?
They might have been going slowly in front, but we shouldn't ignore the fact that those following RL dropped off from before the turn.  Maybe they also had no hope, or are out of form, but that's what I'm going on in assessing RL's performance.  Also, the fact that the winner finished on over the top of the early leaders suggests that they weren't jogging up front.

12.8 to the furlong is jogging up front DD, and they ran their last 600m in 34.9 ... which was near a 1/2 sec quicker then sneaky long leading all the way over 1350m.
I am sorry if i have ever come across as attacking the messenger DD, but it has never been my intention ... but I do like a civilised debate and maybe i am guilty of being a little over passionate
From: dubbledee Sent: 16/06/2008 8:49 PM
Also, the fact that the winner finished on over the top of the early leaders suggests that they weren't jogging up front.

Or maybe it suggests it was a super run by the winner and it deserves an honourable mention, or maybe it means the second horse is over the top, and or maybe it means i have done my calculations incorrectly

Any way just thought I would add a healthy but differing view to most other pundits

Here are some interesting stats if anybody is interested,
if the old horse Coldy had of been in the race, and assuming the track conditions where fairly simular i think, track may have been rated good last year, but i believe was closer to dead then good, so simular conditions.
Coldy ran along at 12.5 to the furlong and ran home in 36.6 in an overall time of 2:13.58 .
He would have led RL and DTE by 15l if he was going as good as he was the year before ..... would have been a great race to watch
