There's no satisfying the forum's appetitite for discussion on Brisbane Racing, so let's get another thread under way.
This one's for the trainer who turns in a noteworthy performance.

Yes it was a good win but why didn't David Murphy run the horse over a distance a month ago? He stepped it back in distance  from 1800m at Eagle Farm to 1600m at Doomben within a week. The horse is by a stayer in King's Theatre and has been running on in all his recent runs and now he goes for a spell?

He's one of those horses who needs that solid tempo up front....as been ridden up close in the past and just dosen't finish the race off...he aint that big of a horse either...

GS is testing patience of all concerned.  He's had interrupted preps so I suspect all is not right with him.

Giving this week's award to "rookie" SC trainer LOUISE WHITE for her handling of yesterday's winner Public Nuisance.

The 5yo - who's had just 18 runs - has registered a hat-trick of metro wins this prep.

I believe Louise once held a jockey's ticket, but did her ground-work with several trainers in Oz and o/s.  She's got just a few horses in work, and is partner of Glen Killen.  Killen was a leading apprentice in the 70s and won a Stradbroke on 100/1 pop Sir Wisp in 1977.

No contest this week.

The award must go toSunshine Coast team of BRUCE AND JASON MCLACHLAN.  Not only did they bring another Slipper back to Qld, they also won the last at Eagle Farm.

Graham Potter rightly gives recognition to Barry Baldwin's feat of FIVE consecutive winners leading into Ben Hur in the first at Doomben last Wednesday.

While BB's sequence came to an end in Race 2, he was back in the winner's circle with Side to Side in Race 3.

Commendable effort in anyone's language. Thumb Up   Thumb Up   Thumb Up   Thumb Up   Thumb Up

Gonna give another gong to ex-NQlder STEPHEN O'DEA.

He's making a big impression since his shift to Brisbane.

On Saturday he won the main race with GO CART, stepping up in distance from 1600 to 2100 and lumping 58 kg.

I believe O'Dea bought GC as a tried horse for a relative "song".  Looks like there're more wins ahead, too.

Stephen O'Dea sees GO CART as a WRC contender.

From: http://www.horseracingonly.blogspot.com/

Race 4:

Japan Trophy - Listed (Quality) - 2106m
1st - Go Cart; 2nd - Winmara; 3rd - Drumshanbo

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Steven O’dea: “We were having a talk before the race, Ryan (Wiggins) and I. The rail was out 5m for that last meeting here and they were racing a little off the fence then too, so it was new ground in on the inside of the rail with the rail only being out a metre this time, so I thought that would probably be better. We made about four lengths on the rest of them coming around the corner by sticking to that inside line. He handled the step up in distance real well. In his last couple of starts, he’s probably been looking for a little bit further. There haven’t been a lot of races to suit him. I would have liked to have set him up for the 1800m, you know. He’s had to make a big jump up to the 2100 today (from 1500m), but he’s handle it well.

“We took the blinkers off today. Over the shorter distances he can get a bit keen in the race so we took the blinkers off just to get him to settle for the 2100m. We are going to freshen him up for the carnival, but we will have to sit at home and think about things. I think he’s got the class to compete at the Carnival. It wasn’t a bad effort today at 58kg and jumping up from 1500m to 2100m. Hopefully over the Carnival he might get some sort of weight relief and get into a nice race with a reasonable weight. We might just give him a few easy weeks, put him out in the paddock for a week or something - there isn’t a lot of time (before the Carnival). Probably give him an easy time for the rest of the month and then look at some races at the end of May, start of June.”

Jockey Ryan Wiggins: “Our horse gets going pretty good and we thought the fence was alright today and for a horse carrying a bit of weight we didn’t want to cover too much ground. We just stuck to our guns and stuck to the fence and it paid off. It’s his first one over 2100m and I was a little bit sceptical that he was knocking up a little bit, but he stuck it out strong. I’ve had four rides on him now for two seconds and two wins, and both wins were Listed races, so it’s good.”

There were a few strong contenders out of yesterday's meeting, but I'm plumping for Twmba mentor Michael NOLAN for his efforts to get star filly Chakvetadze to win the Guineas yesterday.  She reached an unbeaten sequence of 6.

Nolan might have had a few disruptions of late on his home track, but he produced the filly in top fettle yesterday. Thumb Up

This week's award from me goes to GC mentor Maryann THEXTON.  She won her first Group race on Saturday with Za Magic, a horse who's always shown ability, but didn't quite get the chance to deliver.

Not only did Maryann train the winner, she also selected him as a weanling.  She's now got a live chance to pull off a Group 1 race over the winter.
