I got a email today from a member of TNHRCF who lives in Melbourne. He was telling me that they are on water restrictions and can only water a few hours a week.
Up here in Logan City we can only water for 30 minutes on each Sunday

The advice from some is to use grey water.  Just be careful of what detergents you use as it could kill some of your favorite plants. Especially Azaleas and Grevillias.
I use it OK on my citrus trees, but you still have to be careful.

I spent most of the day prunning my ratther large cherry tree which I have left bare (no branches) and still have to cut a 1/4 of the trunk.  Will it survive this brutal attack or have I really stuffed it.  I have in the past prunned apple, pear and plum trees and they sirvived my brutal attacks and still bear fruit.

Secret to pruning is the timing.

The rule most times is to only take a third off, but gee I have seen some cut a lot more and still survive.

Gee my wife would love to be able to grow a cherry tree up here.

I really enjoy driving down your way in the Autumn with those maple trees and their colours.

If you’re keen to grow spuds, but space is tight in the vegie patch - then this no-dig, minimum-fuss option is for you.

What you need:
• chicken wire
• pea straw
• sheep manure
• potting mix
• blood and bone
• certified seed potatoes

How do you do it:

• Make a tube or cage from the chicken wire. It needs to be about 600 mm high and about 500 mm in diameter.

• Spread a few handfuls of sheep manure at the bottom of the cage, then cover with pea straw to around 100 mm. Make a hole in the centre and pour in some potting mix.

• Then add the seed potatoes.

• We’ve planted kestrels - a great all round, general purpose potato, and good for the home garden.

• We’ve planted four potatoes – so it is a tight fit, but the idea is to get loads of spuds out of a small space.

• Nestle them down into the potting mix, so they settle firmly and cover them. Then add more potting mix and pat that down so it’s firm.

• Add pea straw and a sprinkle of blood and bone that will wash through and feed the spuds as they grow. And then finally add a couple of generous handfuls of sheep manure to top it off.

• As the spuds start to sprout and grow, just keep packing more straw in and around the stems so they set tubers and are protected from the light so they don’t turn green.

• In a couple of months it will be time to pull loads of potatoes.

Only ever grown the pumpkin . Depending on the type as to how big they will get.  The vine more or less dies off when they are ready.

Up here the Jap pumpkin are best to grow imo.

Just another little garden hint.

Most people will know this but when you are spraying weed killer such as round up, just put a couple of drops of dishwashing detergent in the mix and it will work so much better.
A young bloke down the road from my place couldn't work out why he wasn't getting the results, but when he tried this it worked well.  Also, of course, the hotter the day the better
