Pike Suspended for 18 Days
7 July 2007
WestOz RacingStewards today concluded the Inquiry into the reason for DJEDDAH STING (D Staeck) checking approaching the 200m in Race 8 the Whiskers Handicap run over 1300m held at Belmont Racecourse on Wednesday, 4 July 2007.
Further evidence was taken from Jockey W. Pike the rider of LORD TOM and Jockey D. Staeck.
Jockey W. Pike was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under ARR.137(a) in that approaching the 200m he allowed his mount to shift inwards and crowd OUR NAMATJIRA (B.Parnham) inwards onto DJEDDAH STING with this being the major contributing factor to DJEDDAH STING being tightened for room and checking.
Jockey W. Pike had his license to ride in races suspended for a period of 18 days to take effect from midnight the 14 July 2007 and to expire midnight 1 August 2007.
Trainers and owners be aware that Pike has elected to take the 9 day rule which will allow his to ride at Belmont next Saturday
