Just an update on my filly Denzel.
Had her first trial a couple of weeks and ran a nice 3rd out of 6 runners.  Didn't in any way push her along, just wanted her to begin from the mobile and run in behind to give her some experience being in a field.
Ran home nice without letting her go at all (not even pulled the earplugs).
However the stupid bitch of a thing threw herself down in the float on the way home and is a little sore.  Just jogged her for a few days to get the soreness out of her (which it is now) and now will qualify her on Sunday hopefully.

Geo...
You must have a good eye for a young horse as I think it was over 12 months ago you first said you were keen on the prospects of this filly....
Good luck with qualifying her and you  will have to let us know her racename ...(Although if you are thinking she will win 1st up maybe keep it to yourself).......

denzel,
I don't mind giving out her name.  It is Zucchini.  A filly by Armbro Operative out of Pumpkin (No I did not name her).
I don't know if I will race her much as a 2yo, might qualify her and race her once or twice and give her a break.  She has been in around 4 months this time in.  She will turn into a nice 3yo hopefully.

The filly is well named....Nothing better when owners actually put some thought into the naming of a horse......
Just wondering if you have always been an Armbro Operative fan??? Is she a bit big athletic type?

denzel,
yep that was my horse, which my share is now less than it used to be. It was an easy 3ro race so not so good, but he did actually try this time and hopefully things will improve as he gets fitter.  Hopefully will be running Friday 14th
Geo, don't worry about the throwing themselves down in the float, they get better the more practice they have.
Denzel if you get another chance for a good horse like you have let me know, because my involvement soon will be a small interest and nothing to do with joggin and training them

I have always liked Armbro Operatives, she is not real big though, although is athletic.  She still has some growing to do so won't be doing a heap with her this time in.
If she qualifies nicely on Sunday I will take her either to Echuca the sunday after or Bendigo on the Tuesday.
Then I will take her down to Geelong to run in a heat of the Breeders Crown.  After that she can might be ready to go out for a bit.
I might be ready to, the bloody mornings down here in Bendigo are freezing.

Geo, how is geoff, is he still training her?  the mornings everywhere are fresh.
Denzel, I have changed my mind, I will take your horse to jog, he looks a nice type for SA (better to get prize money in SA and cheaper fees than higher fees and hope they win)
Anyway mate good luck with him.

denzel,
I have just looked up your horses form, when is he running next?  The 1.57.8 must have given you a great thrill.. obviously along with the derby start.  When they get near 4yo they all start to even out.
What did Ryan Ryhorec say about him, because he has driven Ciao for Now.  Like I said if you want to have him over where the racing is supposed to be easier, let me know

Geo, what do you mean by exposing yourself?? hope you do not mean early in the morning when it is freezing, because your manlyhood will be to test lol.
For those who did not know, Geoff lost a son in a car accident I think around 2 years ago now, just up from his property.  I hear from others that is why he left SA because he could not handle going past the same spot everyday.
As a parent, that would get too you.I think those who tell me this should just let it go and let him handle it in his own way.
Geo, obviously don't bring it up with him, but just thought you may like to know in case you get foot and mouth one day.  By the way I am not revealling a family secret, it was common knowledge and in the local papers, because of the bad intersection it happened at.

Longneck....
We all know how one minute you can be up and the next down as an owner....
Since the derby run he has only had 4 starts for 2 wins but we have since found out he has a fetlock that hasn't grown properly and this along with other injuries (From trying to take weight of the joint) has restricted him from getting anywhere near his best since the derby....He has become a race to race proposition and doubt he can ever reach his potential with a limited racing life he has left....
We have only found this out in the last month so his 2 wins were better than looked as he has been in pain.......He hopefully will run in next  few weeks which will show us  where we are at with him.....
The 1.57.8 was his best run at only his 5th start as he went round to the breeze and sat outside Lombo Alliance (Who won sires heat and Metro meeting at MV).....
I went across for St Leger (beaten SHH) and SA Derby and met Ryan for first time....I am not sure your view on him but he appeared to have a very level head and must be one of the best young drivers in SA......
Geo...
I spent a year in bendigo at HRTC in early 90's and can certainly sympathise with the cold frosty mornings........

Longneck,
Yeah I did hear about that accident.  Worst thing that can happen to a family.  My brother drowned when he was 2 whilst in the care of my grandparents (Mum and Dad were at work).  I was only 1 so I do not remember, but you look back to realise how great it would be to have a brother here today.  Must have been so hard on parents and grandparents, I can't begin to understand.  The good thing is there was no blame pushed onto my grandparents, I think that would have made it impossible to cope with.
Always treasure your time with your family.

Denzel,
How did you find the school.  I was working at Michael Langdon's in the mid 90's and we took a couple of school kids on for their work placements, they seemed not too bad, very confident (sometimes too confident).  That soon changed when we sent them down the track jogging one and leading one off both sides.

Geo,
sorry to hear that. Brings the incident with the two twins that drowned here recently in a rain water tank, terrible thing.
Denzel,
that's rotten luck, it is always the good ones that get injured.  You can have a horse that can't run out of sight on a dark night and they will always be 100% sound.  Get a good one and hold your breath because they will break down at some stage.
Good luck, hope he can get a few more wins.

Geo...
Sorry to hear about your brother and i feel for your grandparents as well as your parents as that is a very sad burdon they would have to carry with them for life...Very commendable to your parents and family as to often complete accidents happen and humans feel someone must be to blame.....
The great thing about the school is you get to work for the best in the industry (eg.. I worked with Gavin Lang, Bruce Morgan, Pockocks and Co) so you get taught the right way...I am sure in the gallops scheme you don't go straight to freedmans and Bart's to learn.....Unlike myself, plenty of good ones came through my year including D.Douglas....Yes ..I would love to lie but he clearly had my measure back then...
Longneck....
Thanks....Yes..The better ones get injured as they either go much quicker and therefore put more stress on joints/tendons or can push through the pain and you then don't find problems until it's to late.... I have my figers crossed, thats for sure..

Zucchini had her qualifying trial on Sunday at Bendigo but didn't really go to plan, galloped in score up and didn't get into her position.  Started just behind second row horses.
Got squeezed up on first turn and galloped again and was tailed off.
Another go this week.  She paced nicely once she got going.

How did she pull up after galloping a few times???
We had an Armbro Operative colt out of a sister to Anvil Vance that we bought at APG sales last year.....Was never going to go as a 2 yo but was a very nice looking athletic type.....Bugger decided to take on an electric fence and of course came off second best with 2 tendons sliced in half.....Very disappointing but already have learnt in this game to never count any chickens before they hatch....
Good luck with ya filly....let us know about this weeks trial.....

She pulled up fine.
I fast worked her yesterday with a couple of other 3yo's and she blew them away (don't think the 3yo's are much chop though).  Paced like a dream, bitch of a thing.
I am putting plugs in her this week and do some mobile practice before the trials start, may have to use shorteners on her as well, I will see how she goes in practice.
Will keep you updated.

Well denzel we qualified last week.  She did everything ok.  Still ran last of 5 runners but was making up good ground at the finish and the leaders ran home in 28.7 on a wet track, later realised that Real Impact won the trial.
She is having her first start tonight at Kilmore in a 2yo Restricted.  Last race No1.  Don't know if that will suit her or not as have not really pushed her out of the mobile as yet, but we will see tonight I suppose.
She is maybe an each way chance if she does everything correct.
Bloody last at Kilmore though at 10.02pm talk about cold!!!

As I thought may be the case she did not have the confidence to run out of the gate and she drifted to the back end of the field at the start.  They then went slow in the middle stages of the race which helped the front runners.
She sprinted home very nicely though the last quarter and managed to run 4th so I was very happy with the run, certainly something to work on.

Nah I am training her myself.  When I bought her they could not get her going as a yearling/early 2yo.  I bought her at the right price back then as she looked like a nice horse just a little on the small side (which her mother was as well).  I sent her to the lush green paddocks for 4 or so months and then sent her away to be reeducated and now after a lot of work this is the result.
She is in again tomorrow night at Bendigo drawn 3 in race 2.  If she can begin a little better will be an each way chance, but saying that I don't want her pushed out too far where she may make a mistake, it's like a balancing game at present.  She will learn as time goes by and I believe she will make a nice 3yo next season.

Nice effort first up and really got to the line strong....
Understand about you not wanting to push her out of the gate as to many do and then wonder why they pull like mad...People forget that they are still babies and learning what it's all about...
I did chuckle to myself when Dan gave your identity away at about the 700m though.....You needed to get to him and say "Due to a certain forum please don't mention me"..
Good luck at Bendigo buddy......

She couldn't get across at the start and then had to restrain and was caught 3 wide and from there she pulled her absolute head off.  She still ran home ok in a 28.5sec qtr but was never in the finish.
I will be changing her head gear a bit and cuttiong out 1/2 her oats in her feed.  Will probabl put a removable hood on her and a tongue tie to start with.

Saw the run Geo and she did pull hard and last at Bendigo when they run home in 28.5 you just forget the run....
Maybe don't worry to much as 2nd start under lights and drawn wider can get them fired up....When is she going round again???
Our horse is running round on Wed at Stawell 1st up.....Have had heaps of trouble which forced us to miss Breeders Crown heats....Will improve on whatever he does..!!!

I 100% agree with you there about some just do what they need to do.....Just makes it hard as you don't know what to do with horses like that as it's hard to know what level they are at....
I think I remember on one of the harness threads someone mentioning about horses being pack animals and like to just run with each other.....Maybe thats just what he likes to do and hasn't got that killer instinct....Has always switched off when he gets to the front....

Denzel, have you tried pull ups on him?
Don't know if you remember but we used to train a horse called Svartsmara.  He was one of the best horses we had in track work, would beat horses like Cee New York in trackwork etc.  On raceday he wouldn't go an inch once he got to the lead in his races.  We chucked some pull ups on him and he turned the corner a little, still never reached his full potential though.

denzel, pack animals, that was me, how could you forget me so soon after all,  I speak so much crap??
I actually got that comment from the late great Lindsay Hayes and who would argue with him.  Ciao for now running tomorrow night at Globe Derby in a $1000 race.  That is as easy as it gets, but I wish he did not have so many vices and missed a few vital fast runs (you just can't race him around bends at the moment and had a hoof injury after last start)
sorry for now wishing all good luck, but takes about a day or two for the messages to show up on my mail and then I only check them on Tuesday and Thursday nights if I am at work. (not sure why I did not received the last 4???)
Anyway if Ciao for now is big odds in the last at Globe tomorrow then get on each way and then blame me and I will kill the brother in law who trains him.

Did mention the pull-ups to trainer and think they are something we will try down the track if we get enough starts outs of him....
Going to drive him colder in the field as well because it's been every start when he has got to the front is when he "turns off and waits for others to come at him".....
Off to MV on friday to just see where we are at with him as all good one in BC semi's and may strike a little weaker field........Hoping for a nice cosy draw.....

I will be happy if she settles better in the run and runs home nicely.  She has quartered herself in the last couple of fast works but I think I may have overcome that problem.

The bitch of a thing thought she would try and look at everything tonight.  Was turning her head bloody 90degrees to look at everything and would not score up. Bitch Bitch Bitch Bitch.
Oh well, back to the drawing board. I will have to take the blocks off her.  Will also put a rein bur on her offside rein and maybe even go straights to keep her ass central in the cart.
Bloody thought she could have won tonight she has been working the house down and the times they ran she can do on her ear.  Oh well will be other days.

I am sure you will work her out and thats where all the self gratification comes into it when you go from what she did last night to sorting her out and she winning....
Paleface...
I understand it's a great day for all owners, trainers, friends of them both and the people of Ballarat....and all of those will flock....but..
Most people are more than an hour away from Ballarat so all of a sudden petrol prices come into these trips now...Petrol + Entry + Food + Racebook must mean close to - $100 before you start...
Or
Stay home and watch on Sky....and bet the $100 away...
Is this the a reasonable theory and why people don't go or am i completely off the track????

Denzel,
That's true.  It is easy to buy a going horse without problems, not easy to buy a young horse that you think should have some ability and then try and get that ability out of her.  They frustrate you sometimes and sometimes when things go right you feel a sense of achievement.

Well done to both horses last night.  Both great runs indeed and the $4.90 was a nice little price indeed.  He had to do all the work though and thoroughly deserved to win.

Thanks Geo,
The day after reality has set in for the brother in law, last night he was telling me how he was a legend trainer and driver and even answered the phone to his brother as harness racing extrodianeer.  All very funny, but today he says he did not beat much, which is the reality.
Anyway a win is pleasing no matter what, so back to the next race, we are likely to try a cheap race on Saturday night, because not up to the three year old race which is a breeders plate open 3yo (denzel your bloke would do well in that).
How about you guys??

Entered for Bendigo Thurs night but 23rd on list so won't get a run more than likely.  Also entered for Shepp sat night, noms close at midday
She had a hitout yesterday morning behind a mobile with one other horse and began the best she has which was good.
Hopefully will get a run somewhere.

CIAO TO MAIDEN STATUS
News Room 07:36 AM 14-Aug-2006 NZST

Two droughts were broken at Port Pirie last Friday night when Hamley Bridge trainer-driver Jamie Williams was successful in the Elders Insurance Pace with three-year-old colt Ciao For Now.

Stuck three wide for the entire mile event, Ciao For Now was very impressive to run away from his rivals at the top of the home straight and hold off Six Bid Solo and Littlebig Star in a three-metre victory.

The win was the colts first in 15 starts and backed-up a handy third behind Vigilante earlier in the month.

While Williams tasted success earlier this year as part of the Have A Go Syndicate’s ownership of Shipps Charm, Friday nights success was his first win as a trainer-driver since Wine Taster saluted the judge at Gawler in September 2000.

The Have A Go Syndicate are also part lessees of Ciao For Now along with Williams’ sister and brother-in-law Alicia and Paul Trussell.

Well got a run at Bendigo in the 2nd race which was a surprise, drawn out the back as she is ODM which will make it hard but field not overly strong by the looks of it.  Does anyone know much about these that isn't easily visible?

more detailed form. looks an average race.
11 is the one to beat, backed at debut into odds on was actually a very good run after losing ground at start.
rest are very average and very beatable.
lang on the first starter is interesting.

Geo, they all have 4 legs and are able to be beaten (I think)  thanks for giving away my identity.  (really who cares)
but the story was interesting and the brother in law will love it.  In his defence he has only ever had one horse in training per year (on average) so not so much of a drought.  The horse Wine taster is well bred and the first foal sold for $14,000
The other mare (shipps charm) me and a couple of others own and when finished racing (should not be long) would love to put to Elsu before the price goes up, and then maybe sell the foal.  So any interested persons let me know. (shipps charm is a 2 minute mare and can sprint and we all know Elsu)

You have to love the new form guide format on www.harness.org.au.....
Can finally just look up 1 race at a time...
Just click on all last lap footage after each race form...
How easy is it to do form these days compared to 10 years ago...There must be alot more smart punters around as any Joe Blow has every race just a click away....
We are running at Geelong next Tues with a nice little barrier 2....He will most likely run around fave and quite short on his last run......

Well she did everything fine last night which was pleasing.  Began ok and sat 4 back the fence and raced generously through the run.  Taking the blocks off seemed to work well.  She pushed up in the middle on the turn and was blocked half way around the turn which doesn't really suit her and she needs a bit of time to wind up.  She ran home ok to run 7th beaten only 9m.
The thing that really annoys me was how slow they ran up in front.  HRV implement sectional time restrictions but they don't apply to 2yo's apprantly, why not????

Not wrong Denzel.
It's just so hard when you are drawn out the back, end up sitting 4 back and they walk up in front.  Was very happy the way she ran home and pulled up very well from the run.  I just want her back in the draw now, if she can land somewhere close to them in a run she will be in with a big chance.
Good to see you drew well next week, will start fav in that field I reckon and should go very close, especially on his last run.  Good luck.

Denzel and all, yes he did look hard to beat and I think the one that beat him was fav or second, closely to us.  As far as the drive goes, yeah did not look to good, but remember if you sit back at Globe Derby they walk and you get left behind, so hard to know what to do. Jamie actually won the Australian Junior drivers championship in his younger days, but he just does not drive that much these days so gets nervous.  I still think it was the right move and if the horse had not missed a small amount of work during the week due to stepping on a rust nail it probably would have made the head difference.

denzel,
I did not watch, only listened, and they said he was a bit lazy down the back, which you already have said he tends to be.  However when horses came up to him, what did he do?  Sounded like he just plodded like my horse would. He is a lot better than that, just wondering if trainer says he has had enough?  Mate wish he had won for you, hope he is okay and not injured that is the main thing.

Well after many a try to get a run I finally get one at Shepp on Sunday night.  Race 3 no 3 in a 7 horse field.
She is back in draw after I trialled her on sunday, trialled nicely behind Man on a Rock.
Pole horse went ok last time but this is over another 500m.
2 horse is the interesting one 1st up since March for new trainer.
I think we can beat the rest.

Mare's name is Nellie My love bu Jake and Elwwod out of an Armbro Hurricane mare named Cheer Girl.
Related to some very nice horses.
Mare has had 2 foals for 1 multiple winner, the other I do not know anything about.
They were both by lessor stallions Khans Thundar & Nuke of Earl.
This will be her first foal by a more commercial stallion (Jet Laag).

Geoff, what it the name of the mare and "why are you her"? sorry I saw that (on trading ring) and thought who are we dealing with when we sell horses etc. I have adverts on the same site and everyone who rings up says their employer just stuffed up their latest pay and they should have been paid more, sorry can I pay you next week etc.  You must ask how can these people last in the game if they can't but a small amount of gear or a cheap horse, how the hell can they feed, travel, etc etc etc.
Anyway Geoff, good luck with the next start for the filly. I will keep a look out.

Hi Guys..
Won't make this too long winded.....
Our horse is 99.9% having it's last run next wed in Horsham Guineas drawn 10 as injury has taken it's toll on a bad fetlock and will be retired after the lengthy career of 16 starts....Vet can only do so much and when you start throwing away money it makes it not worth it....
He has won 3 of last 6 but isn't the horse he was held up on derby night....
This isn't 1/20th of owning Leica Falcon but to have a derby runner you only get 16 starts out of  and finishes a C2 is disappointing as everyone knows how hard they are to find......
Does make you wonder why you should keep pouring money into the horses but I now know why it becomes an addiction once you have one that can run sub 2.00.00 mile rate....
Anyway when you deal with horses that .1% is something you can hang onto...
Hopefully we all have a little luck in the next week.....

LLD,
terrible to hear his career will be cut so short.
know what it's like had a dog a few years back, 2 starts in a maiden series 2 near track record wins(after breaking the record in trials), 3rd race start missed the kick, flew up the outside going into the first turn next thing I saw was the dog go flying across the track into the outside fence, and in a small mercy it did end quickly for him.
haven't had another one that could touch him, and wonder if I ever will.
but like me you just keep on trying and hope there is some justice in it all.

Denzel,
sorry to hear that. Thought something was wrong last start.  Like I said before to you, it only happens to the good ones. You could have a donkey that will run until 12 years old and have no injury, you get  a reasonable one and they get injured.
Hang in there and I hope you find another good one.

Denzel,
So sorry to hear that about your horse, absolute shame.
I have had to scratch my filly tonight because of lameness to her offside front.  During her work the other night a bloody Kangaroo was sitting near the track, well she went off her nut.  Anyway she hit herself in front just on the inside around her pedal and it has swallon up heaps with some lameness.
Always the bloody way, draw 3 in a weakish field and this happens.

Bummer about you filly Geo as they ran home in 59.8 off a slow middle half......She would have ran on well in a last quarter of only 30.0...
Is she the only one you have in work at the moment that is close to racing???
Longneck...I guess thats why he took off last week as you do seem to get left behind on that track....All that room out there...What a pity SA harness don't have heaps of money and they could take the lead with a 1200m  track.....

Denzel,
Yes she is the only one that I have in work that is close to racing.  Always looking for others however.
When I saw the field for last night I though she was an absolute moral, given she did everything correct, which she has done since I took the blocks off her.  When I saw the race it convinced me even more.  She would run those times on her ear around Shepp (very quick track).  I really believe she will come back a very nice 3yo.  The improvement in the last 10 or so weeks has been very encouraging.

I am certainly not blaming the track. They ran 2:00.9 which he has not been able to do, so making a move three wide and then being in the death over last lap he has run olay. He has shown heaps of improvement so hopefully after his next break he will improve again.

You never know where this game takes you.....
We were approached before Horsham race by a party wanting to buy him and take him back to WA...We were honest and the party knows about the problem he has and were still happy to take him without a Roadworthy (Vet's certificate).....Obviously this decreases the amount significantly as compared to his price if sound but I would prefer to see him running around WA than in a paddock.
Apparently the WA trainer has had huge success with leg problem horses....
So providing sale goes through he is off to Perth next week.....Will keep you updated...
1 question for you guys....
Would the prospect of someone improving a horse greatly deter you from selling one with such potential???

denzel, by the time I pay $20, if he wins, there goes the prize money.
See the Monday meetings last season had the R class races worth $2000 and they are now worth $1750. So petrol goes up so does the cost of feeding horses, but prize money is on the decrease?
We did avoid a lot of good horses which are going for their R0 on Monday instead of going straight for the C0, but there are a couple of unknowns in our race.

tomorrow night we have our biggest test so far (not that the fav is a champion but we have not done anything ourselves yet.)
Again a back row draw, but given we have no gate speed lately we will always settle back.  Given the go so slow over here yoy have to make a move early so again we will probably be three wide and if lucky in the death. So some better oposition this week, lets see how well we can go, my prediction is 3rd to 5th.

Picking my filly up from Agistment on sunday, she has filled out very nicely in her 8 weeks off and looks sensational.
Hopefully she will improve again this time as she has done so in the past.  Will give her a slow build up as I believe that young horses need a good base to build on so will build her up over about an 6-8 week period before commencing some pace work.  Hopefully starting to trial around mid to late January.

I was thinking of getting a horse for  a few  races over christmas new year as it is very likely they will race for $2000 restricted racing in Whyalla on boxing day and new years day. I have no horse to race and this is the richest restricted racing in SA if it happens. However it would be my luck I could not sell the horse after the season here is over.

Funny enough we have owned 3 and at the sales this year there are brothers and sisters to all 3.....
1....Brother to Lagoon Lady that couldn't scratch itself
2....Out of a sister to Anvils's Vance that thought he would take on an electric fence..

gidday guys.
I have a group of about 4 or 5 people from Barmera who are almost certain to get a yearling from the sales (SA) but have only between $6000 and $7500 so this yearling is out of price.
I have looked over the sales and have done so for year, you can talk about breeding as much as you like, but in the end it comes down to luck.
Sure getting one that is bred better than the rest is like getting a maxi pick in the x-lotto.  Mares can throw three $20,000 plus winners and then throw a dud.
Ciao for now is nominated for a start at Whyalla on boxing day, not fully fit, but only a few weeks off.

If he does think the horse can win I hope he at least tells you so.

willy, are you talking the bathurst gold crown sale? or is there another sydney one?
What is the breeding of the ones you are looking at and we can give you our best uneducated guess at what price you might be looking at.

That would be a big help longneck.
I don't want to waste everybodies time by inspecting horse that may be in our budget to find out I'm totally out of place in the market
It's the APG sale @ Newmarket on Feb 25
The lots I've ear marked are
468
470
518
520
535
536
563
Most of them are from the same family that includes Kingstar
On interesting one I saw was lot 523
How can a family fall away to nothing as this one has. The 5th dam produced the great Bay Foyle as well as 2 other great horses The 4 dams since have not produced a winner worth mentioning.
Without the 5th dam it would rate as the worst pedigree I've ever seen. What the hell happened

Wily, I can't find a link to the sale anywhere, so can't see the pedigree. remember you can have a look at any horse you like, they don't know how much money you have. Even if you do not buy the horse, you may be the one who pushes the price up for the owner, so they will be happy for you to look (better than sitting there with nobody looking at your horse)
Some of the horses in the SA sales are obviously buy backs, which basically means the owners are putting them in the sale with the intention of buying them back. The benefit of this is that they are then qualified for the $50,000 graduation pace (for horses that are sold at the sales) It is obvious with a few of them (they are already named). I am sure the same thing will happen with the APG sales.

hi guys,
he was $5 into $3.20fav on course...
Went very rough in score up ....Sat on leaders back and hung out most of the race...
Did appear to get a run in the straight but didn't run on at all....
Guess you would say the run was slightly inconclusive....
I haven't seen him hang like that before and maybe it has something to do with his leg as horses that hang like that do so as sore somewhere....
Anyway.....Jury is out
Longnek...
Ciao went good and will be hard to beat on new years day....
They buy backs are a pain in the arse for potential buyers....Do all the homework find one u like and have not a hope in hell of buying it....
Mick Lombardo horses are the biggest pain....He should release a catalogue of his own saying which is which.....

Thanks Tripple 7, I was looking for the wrong yearling sales, APG one should have been obvious it keeps popping up as a banner everytime I go into Harness Racing site.
Denzel you are right about Lombardo, he has the ones that are already named that I was talking about. I think I should name my next one "the last lombo" or "no more lombos" but I don't think I could stop someone that big in the game, good luck to him.
I actually have my eye on one I know is not a buyback (Safely Kept - Princess Lucrative) which I know is not a buyback because they paid for a photo to be put in the  SA Botra magazine and he looks good. Probably go too high though, at this stage I look like having 5 or 6 boys at $1500 each.

wily, families are wrecked thru' continued appalling matings & can happen within a generation. I see it continually in the TB sale catalogues & have noticed it with greyhounds. Too many with little knowledge, wrongly assume that by breeding the best they can afford to 'ditto', will produce good racing stock. Doesn't even work at the top level unless they use a significantly dominant stallion like Danehill & even then there's no guarantee but with him but the family at least has a chance of going forward.

My filly is in the second at Maryborough today.  Drawn 7 as she is ODM.
Not much hope especially from that draw.
I am a little disappointed in the way she has come back as well, has not really shown the improvement that I was looking for.  Oh well can only keep trying I guess.
The pair of Tonkin's drawn 1 and 2 will be the hardest to beat, the pole horse is beautifully bred by Armbro Operative out of Protikori's mother Kalypso.  This is her second foal.  Has won trials.
Hopefully we can do everything right today and she manages to run on from back in the field.

Yeah I was very happy with that run, just ran out of condition in last 50m when I thought she was going to run into 4th.
We restrained at the start and went back to last on the fence.  At the half we got a cart up 3 wide with cover which I thought was going to be great but by the 300m that horse hadn't really dragged us up far enough and something galloped and interfered with us a little.
As they straightened she had to come 4 and 5 wide and ran into 6th only beaten around 13m.
They went 2:00.4 last half in 58.9 and the good thing was she lost no ground even after coming wide.
Now I have a dilemma as she got a run tomorrow at Horsham tomorrow after I thought she wouldn't.  She has pulled up well and went straight for her feed etc.  I will see how she jogs in the morning before I decide whether to go.

Yeah could say that.  Was bolting down the back and when he went for her nothing there, did not pull up from Maryborough by the looks even though on the surface seemed fine.
It's a problem with the code though when you can not scratch without penalty when something like this occurs.

Singapore Johnny won at Harvey tonight at around 5/4 odds, had the suckalong behing the leader, then Suvalko squeezed off the fence down the back into the 1x1, joined leader on straightening and was a bit too strong....as it should have been against a field like that

Vo...
He did have every possible and won by a neck but thats all he did when we had him...I will be interested to see times when they are posted on harness.org...
I did think he raced better tonight...No excessive hanging and scored up better so they def made some changes...
There was plenty at $4 on bf for a while and closed $3.20/40....The tote on the other hand was crunched late even into $1.80 on NSW so i think they got some back....
I do agree that if he couldn't win that with the run he had then they were in trouble....

Was wondering what happened after the Horsham run and actually thought you may have turned her out again....Good to see she has been trialling well....
Wondering if you have had a look at the Aussco sale book on this sunday and if so if you like any in it......There are a couple i like so may have to take a hike to Oaklands...
Problem is you take a glance at the APG book and it makes you wonder if you are completely wasting your time as stock is so much better..

denzel,
I gave her a few easy days after the debacle of Horsham.  The only good thing about it is I know I have to race her on the fresh side now.  The balance will be to keep her fresh enough but not too fresh.
I have had a look at the Aussco sales.  I like a couple in it on breeding.
1. Holmes Hanover Colt out of Spangled Lace:- 1/2 Brother to In Town Tonight who was a good young horse and won over $110k in prizemoney.
2. A colt by Astreos out of Save your kisses.  Mare is dam of 8 foals for 6 winners 3 in sub 2:00 inc Locked Away $50k prizemoney and Kiss Me Johnny.
I believe you can pick up some nice horses out of this sale and they will be a lot cheaper than the Gold sale.  If you look at purchasing one have a good look into their breeding before hand and pick out the ones you like and then have a good look at them before hand.
I think they are having a viewing day today for most lots.
I also see Johnny won again last night which was great.

Can buy a cheapy that is a brother to LP watch by Cristion Cullen....what do u think price will be??
Little brother to divisive, Cobbity Classic,Hexus or sister to emma's only..as well...
Even a full sister to The Falcon Strike...
Why this sale isn't held in Melbourne or Sydney has got me stuffed.....
Check it out.....www.nationalyearlingsale.com
I am trying to workout best way to hitch hike there.....

Tell me about it.  She is so frustrating.  Thought she had a big chance tonight.  I stayed back here in Bendigo which I am glad of now as I don't have the 4 1/2 hr trip home from Mildura.
So so frustrating as she has been working and trialling great.
ODM again now which won't hurt her and will try blocking her up again as Frank said she seemed to panic when they let her go.

I like a few of them out of this sale without seeing them in the flesh.  Wish I had a decent amount of money to buy up a few, oh well maybe in the future I might.
Don't know if I am going as yet, might have my horse in on the Sat night in Mildura again, but will see.
Are you going Denzel?
Lot 106 a filly by Safely Kept out of Fly Like The Wind
Decent well bred racemare was Fly Like The Wind and Classic Garry has produced the mother of Lombo La Fe Fe and Triliner.
In the picture and video does look like she has the makings to be a young horse but have to see in flesh.
At the top end of the market will include Lot 260 a Falcon Seelster filly out of Sassy Gina.  Looks a nice type I thought and is out of a very nice producing broodmare who has produced Sassy Sarah, Geraldino and Bally Hooley.  Has produced 6 winners from 8 foals to date and I believe crosses very well with Falcon Seelster Bloodlines.
Lot 135 is again out of a Classic Garry mare Jarita and is a 1/2 sister to very nice young horse Von Rita.  Again by Falcon Seelster.
Lot 136 is out of Jasmine Blue Jeans whose 2nd dam is a half sister to the mighty Blossom Lady who produced Mister DG so the line does breed on in my opinion.  Jasmine's first foal in NZ has won 3 out of 4 starts by Holmes Hanover, the only worry here is I don't really like Island Fantasy but looks a nice filly.
Lot 196 is a Filly by the mighty Christian Cullen out of a sister to Mother Courage and Tandia's Courage.  First foal so will be interesting to see what she brings.
I really like Lot 257 a filly by Astreos out of Sandelera who is a half sister to Il Vicolo.  Has had 3 foals for 3 winners to date including Apache's Atom.  Sandalera dam Burgundy Lass was a Noodlum mare, just love the Noodlum lines.

I will be going yes as there are 3 relations to the last 3 we have bought so want to see how they look....
I like a few early so will be seated for the first lot....Always a chance to get a cheapie early....
Don't have the budget for a few of your topliners but i do like lot 135....The best way is to have a look, work out what you think are worth and go from there...
Have been to a few now and so easy to get caught up in the moment...
My reports back are....
Aussco sale.....Couldn't give the early ones away and plenty after...
Cowra Sale......Not alot of money around either....
Could be a sale to get a cheap buy due to drought and interest rates.....Lets hope so

if the SA one is anything to go by you might be disappointed early. Could not get a couple I liked, but I am extremely happy with the one we picked in the end, he is in the bike already after being bought on Jan 10.

Ciao for now is running on Saturday Night in a $1200 race. Drew wide again, but this is not a hard race. He went terrible last start, but don't worry about that it was a gear change (Dolly's were taken off) and he did not try because of it. He has the blinkers on now and has been going well with them so I going to put my neck on the line again and say if you can get some reasonable odds, have a go.

I nominated my filly for MIldura Sat night, but she got an infection (not serious) in her fetlock from where she cut it being stupid the other night, so I have pulled her out of the race.  Will prob nom for Mildura again the Sunday after.
By the way, a horse goes around tonight that will be worth having something on, a horse called Ipanema at Nyah, drawn the pole, last run wasn't too bad.

Thanks Geo,
I borrowed against the house to get on.
Also my father in law used to have a horse called Popular Joey which is in race 3 at Nyah. It is a horse that can gallop at the start which is usually the case and then makes up 100,s of metres, but if it does not gallop does nothing.  Father in law said she needs a trainer driver and not the one in Adelaide she used to have. Interesting to see how it goes. I heard it won a trial by 30m but I thought it would be 50/1 and would have $5 on it but in our paper it is 6/1 which is ridiculous.

Gees this bitch shits me. For those who did not watch, missed the start by 40 metres and galloped again when caught them up and lost another 15 to 20 metres. It seems to be if you hold her up (which you have to do behind the mobile and when you catch the field) you gallop.

Got there well before the first lot as liked a few early....Liked lot 106 ( www.apgold.com.au) and she looked fantastic...Problem was she looked too good and my nice cheap steal went well overs at $30000
Lot 107 was the full sister to Singapore Johnny...She was a nice looking filly but terribly small...Did bid trying to get her cheap enough but let her go at $12000
Did end up buying though......Have to take off....Will post later with details but lets just say Geo and I may have crossed paths quite a few times yesterday...

What a great day at the Hunter Cup yesterday.
One Over Kenny's perfromance and A Touch of Flair were outstanding.  What a great effort also by Crownie.  For a 4yo trotter to run third in a race such as that and making the ground up he did was a great effort.
I was so glad Sting won the Hunter Cup as well.  Fully deserved a big win and his trainer is such a great bloke.

denzel,
Well that is good in one way, gives you access to the west to sell more horses if you want to.
You were going to give us details about the yearling you bought?

Hi Guys,
Geo..
Completely understand what u mean ......Maybe better for trainer as then people know they can get them going better....
The problem then comes down to .."Why pump money into a trainer that isn't going to get or can't get the best out of your horses for you"???
What happens if the next one you give him has a similar problem??? Do you sell him to Perth as well knowing someone can improve him???
Longneck...
Yeah we sold him due to trainer not being able to do anymore for him....
Saw Ciao run the other night.....Maybe he should try and drive him a little quiet and let others do all the work at 1000m....He would have finished much closer driving him quiet.....

denzel,
know what you are saying, he does seem to do a lot of work, however the start before he had a three wide cart up and did nothing. He is just not wanting to put in at all. The vet warned us he would sulk for a while after gelding him, maybe we just did not spell him for long enough.

 Hmmmm.....
Oooooooops......Another win last night in WA for SJ.....
Managed 2 wins this week......
We were told he could only ever race once every 9 days by the stable vet....Geez..
He couldn't win a C2 for us and now all of a sudden is a C5 or 6....

Must be starting to get a little frustrating denzel.
Although racing over there is much easier than here.  Horses like Lucky Punch etc are FFA over there.
Don't be too downheartened.

Thanks Geo....
Hardest thing is everyone knows how hard it is to find horses with abilty and can pay their way.......When you do find one, You want to know you have got every ounce out of them and then maybe sell them....
When you do and they win 4 of their next eight and a few 2nds it makes it harder not in relation to the money side......It's watching them win for you.....
Not as bad but it's a bit like Hawthorn watching Gary run around kicking 8, 10 and 14 for Geelong I guess....Although I hope the tradition continues as everyone know the Hawks had the last laugh....

My filly had a trial at Bendigo yesterday.  I was happy with her effort, cat caught in the death.  Ran past the leader on the turn but ran out of condition in the last 50m.  Track is very good, will be able to come from anywhere to win.
Prob put my filly in at Charlton on Sunday in the 3yo.

Geo....
Good to hear she is back and racing better....
I did have a chuckle to myself though my friend in your wording after "You were happy with her effort".....I think you"Got" caught in the breeze and were not refferring to her effort over the last 50m.....
Great to hear the track looks better as it was very ordinary to be trying to win from behind before the reno's....
Good luck at Charlton on Sunday.....Hopefully pick up some of that vicbred on offer for 1st win.....

lol, should read them before I post them.  She has been called worse than Cat before, I can tell you.
Hopefully she can get a win up sooner rather than later, just want her to do everything correct all the time first however.
Might send her interstate if she can win one here first, bit weaker class of horse might be more her go, I'll see what happens though.

will keep an eye out Sunday Geo. Ciao for now is in a cheap race on Saturday Night again.
Denzel, speaking of a forum horse, he may be the opportunity, we think he needs a few weeks off and I think he will be coming back to our place, but not sure yet. I am full as far as paying myself goes, so there is an opportunity to lease a horse.

Geez.....He is up and racing.....People would be jumping out of trees to lease one thats up and going...I thought he was owned by a family of longnecks (actually is a family of longnecks a carton???) I thought your family owned him??
I do think its funny that only Geo, You and I chat about horses we own...
Surely other forumites must own one or two...

denzel,
plenty of others watching no doubt seeing our not so hot tips. No the carton of longnecks do not own him, we have him on lease. We actually let my Brother in law in as well as a syndicate him and his mate have going (they race shipps charm on lease from us). We had to let them in to afford the training fees, but I think they have almost had enough. Yes he is up and racing but he is just going to need a week or two freshen up to get back to trying again. See how he goes Saturday Night.

denzel, as Geo asked, you were going to give us details about the yearling you bought?, If there is any sorta secrecy about it Geo managed to add me to his msn contacts (great effort Geo considering I have no idea how to work the whole thing but was asked to add you to my contacts) so given only the three of us seem to talk about them we could cut this particular thread short and just email each other.
Hope the yearling is the best all bar one (the one we bought in SA)

Longneck,
I hate to say this mate but she has been working well again.  Trialled good at Bendigo on Sunday.
I only want her to do everything correct on Sunday and go from there.
There is a 3ao / 3a1 Pref draw on sex on Thursday at Bendigo over 1650m which I will look at.  She should draw well in that.
To be honest  actually expected her to be a little better than she has been this time in but oh well can only work with what I have I suppose.

She went shithouse and that is all that can be said.
It has got me stuffed to be honest.  I have the vet coming out to look over her, I am just bamboozled to be honest.
I did up her work over the last couple of weeks, she might not have handled that.  I just don't know, she is much better than that.
Bloody horses, a bloke should have his mind read sometimes.

dont give up Geokel, it's the kind of horse that will lob one day at 50/1+ odds in the right race with the right run, maybe try a female driver, give Jodie Quinlan a ring, it just might be as simple as that

What a difference in weekend for forumites...
Well done Longneck, I missed the race.....Where was he in running, Was he 3 wide doing the work or a nice cosy run for a change??? Did you have a few dollars on him at $8.50??
I am more than happy to add you to my messenger as well....will do so...
I will let you know the yearling we bought on there....
Geo
I looked up harness site for her run but replay isn't up yet....
Do you think it's an upstairs issue or she maybe sore somewhere and isn't putting in due to pain....Due to the fact she has been working well maybe just forget the run and continue on......As you know a weeks a long time in racing.....

Denzel,
Breeding is Our Sir Vancelot - gabriels gold (not sure if that is how you spell that)
All I can say about him at this stage is that he is a striking looking colt (which most colts are) and he is pacing and wanting to go fast when seeing other horses.
As usual have no idea if he will be a winner but at this stage all looking good for racing as a 2 year old.
Even though Ciao for now won I offered my half share to a syndicate I have with Pedros Pick and they are not sure about what to do. So your "jumping out of trees" to lease him may not be true. I only pay $60 a week for a half share of the lease, which I am sure everyone knows means the owner takes out his 1/3 after the trainer driver 10% is taken out and then I get 1/2 of the rest.
Not profitable yet but he has ability and like you say Denzel, a horse racing and winning (on lease) is very hard to get.

So anyone else want to join, with a syndicate in half share in Ciao for Now let me know. You all need to know that brother in law still thinks he needs another speel even though he won on Saturday Night.

Longneck,
Wish I could mate but after the weekend the wife would kill me.
Saturday had a few drinks to celebrate my son's 7th birthday, well ended up being more than a few.  The next morning the wife told me I had organised to lease a 3yo filly by Our Sir Vancelot.
Horses name is Van Lace.  She said next time you drink please sit next to me (presuming so she can elbow me when I open my mouth, lol!!)
Oh well, the joys of it all.
Works out ok though, Zucchini is in at Bendigo tomorrow night drawn 1 in the last and then she is going out for 6 months, just has not improved the way I wanted her to, plus she still has growing to do.

We had a kids party for him on the Friday night.  Then on the Saturday had family and friends over for a BBQ and drinks, well it turned into a very long session, especialy after a couple of hours in the outdoor spa.
Havn't realised before that those spa's really accelerate your drunken state lol!!!

Getting off the forum topic, but we had a spa in the Barmera Monash Football Club changerooms. When playing B Grade they say the worse thing you can do is drink beer after the game as you are so low on fluid. We were given a free carton and then sat in the spa until they kicked us out because the A Grade were coming in for half time break. Geo they are a real worry and make you twice as wobbly.
Beer and a spa, a great combo.

Van Lace is coming along ok.
Only had 2 weeks off between when she qualified and when we started back with her.
Has a bit to learn still, have my doubts on whether she will be good enough in Vic but we only leased her so can give her back if she does not go any good.

Yeah I turned Zucchini out for 6-12 months.  Just did not improve from her 2yo days (went backwards if anything).  Will let her develop fully as she is on beautiful irrigated paddocks so she should do well.
I will keep you informed how she is going.

Ciao for now is running on Saturday Night, I am a bit worried about his one paced runs, if he had a sit and sprint ability I would be happy.
Still I have people looking at him on Saturday to decide if they will go in on a share of him. I pay $60 per week for a half lease share, the only reason I am looking for people is I am building a house and horses take second priority. You would not believe the people wanting to actually pay up for a horse that will win money instantly.
Denzel, like you say people should be jumping out of trees to have a share in him, but most people are so stupid they think when they join in they will win lost of money.

Ciao for Now is going. He ran his worse race on Saturday Night, definately needs 6-8 weeks off.  However I have not one person interested in paying up for him so Off he must go.
Everybody on the trading ring wants a $2000 champion so I hope the owner does not have to advertise him there, but if he does that's life.

Almost Denzel, the owner is sending him to those who have his half sister in WA. South West WA somewhere. Their 18 yr old son is going to handle him. Not sure he will able to handle him with his carry on around bends, but I hope he can. I still think a lot of wins in store after a good spell so I will keep my eye on him.
