Denzil your bloke went well yesterday. He seemed to handle o.k from the back row and seemed to be working home. Amazing that they went 2.00.1 but only came home in 60.3 so it must have been a very strong speed all the way. I notice that the lead time of 37.7 was the quickest of the day for races over 2150m. He just needs to get a draw and we can all break open our piggy banks.  Thumb Up

Denzel, what were your thoughts on the run? He took a long time to get out and when he did he seemed a bit flat (from a louinge chair critic, considering what we have seen from him).  I am asking for your opinion because I have no idea as you know.
Mate if you need to lease him to SA I know just the person
Seriously though Geo, Luck and Denzel, she who must be obeyed is getting itchy feet again so if you know of one that is not too bad but just not good enough for VIC let me know and I will have a look.
Cheers guys.

Ah there you go Luck answered my question before I got a chance to finish it. The time was very strong so you must be reasonably pleased.    Thumb Up

Denzil,

Not too bad of a run yesterday.  I just did not think he looked like himself yesterday though.  Seemed a little dull in the coat and a bit flat.  What was your impression of the run?

I was out there to watch Unbundled who ran his usual honest race to come 2nd flying home at the finish from the tail of the field.

Hey Luck, Longneck, Geoff....Thanks for your comments guys. Much appreciated.  Thumb Up   Thumb Up

To be honest we were disappointed in his run. There was no way he could have beaten SC but he should have finished hard on her back and ran a place. Once again he was on the bit entering the straight untouched puppet said but when he pulled the deafners and let him go he just plodded to the line. Puppet grabbed a heart rate monitor and after them going 2.00.1 he was only 79 bpm which means he is super fit...So here is where the trainer earns his $$$....Question is...

Is there something wrong inside him that isn't showing??

Is he not having a go from when he has galloped and lost 100m to being chased to tack on??

He has had 8 starts this prep and not once has his last 400m been his strongest so what is it when the real heat is on...He has not galloped once in the run and is trotting well so don't think he is sore...
Is interesting Geoff you thought his coat looked dull as he looked super when he was first back. I will be mentioning that for sure.

He is getting blood and hair test to try and dig deeper into this as he is just not racing well...

Cheers guys....Sorry for the long post but I started and just couldn't stop myself  tears shy

No worries Denzel, obviously the trainer is on top of it with all the tests, I will be baffled if the hair test does not show a virus, they all seem to.  Would think it is not a bleeding problem as would drop off a lot earlier.  He did have a long spell didn't he?
Keep us posted with the outcome because we all know there is ability there.

Denzil good post, I knew when you hadn't bounced back on that you may have been a bit flat. Unfortunate situation, I think we have all been there and will be there again someday, "too many questions and no easy answers".

For what it's worth this would be my plan of attack in conjunction with puppet. I would get a muscle man or a different vet to have a look at him. The wraps on John Harland from Kilmore have always been big, and what about getting Alastair McLean to cast an eye over him. Get another horseman, i.e. Gavin or Darryl to drive him at the races for puppet to give you their opinion. Barring that don't be afraid to cut your losses this season and throw him out for 6 months and then start again.  chin Or    I can give you $4,000 cash  shocked  for him now,  lol  .

Longneck....Yeah he had nearly 3 months in the paddock which appeared to have done him good until 3-4 runs back. I am not to familiar with hair test but will see what it turns up.

Luck and Qazxswe....On his last run the 4k would be well overs but as tempting as the offer is I may hold out from selling him just yet ...( Have already sold one for 8k that won another 100k ) hehehe...

Luck, thanks for the advice mate...A Mclean maybe the go as you don't have to look far to see how I could get him along very easily...wink wink
You are on the ball as usual because Dean Braun, Tony Dillon and Gav all have ben quizzed since the run and come up with suggestions so we are going to the trials over the next few weeks to try and sort a few things out...

Once again thanks heaps guys....I passed on quite a few things to Puppet today and much appreciate the help as deep down I know there is alot more than he is showing...Will keep you posted  Thumb Up   Thumb Up   Thumb Up

79 bpm? seems awfully low, assuming it was taken up to 10 minutes off the track. The use of heart rate to determine performance doesn't have any correlation, blood lactate is the highest correlated test. (plenty of info on the net about this is your interested)

Denzel, I think we all agree with not getting rid of him, plenty ability somewhere there and in time hopefully will show it.  I have to agree with the heart rate thing, I am not a big fan although I am no expert.  If you had a strap on heart rate monitor so you could measure his rate during a trial etc the whole race and recovery then fair enough.  Obviously a heart rate will recover quicker if you are fit, but a low heart rate could obviously also indicate the horse just did not put in what he could so you are left guessing a little bit.  Again I am no expert but that just seems logical.

Our Sirdrinksalot in Friday Night barrier 10, should be good for a laugh.

Yeah agree guys. The reason puppet checks his heart rate though is it is a good way to keep an eye on how fast they recover after a workout. This isn't just a one off and is done all the time and is a great way to show if suddenly a horse isn't recovering as fast as he had previously then maybe has some infection or such.
A good example of this my 2 worked together last Nov and OurA380's hr was 90 after and Outpunch E was 125 and OE was fitter. Thats why we turned him out to hopefully give him time to get stronger inside to cope with the work.
The 79bpm just tells us he is super fit and more likely not putting in and just running around with them.
Anyway we are sticking to trials for a while to try some things smiley

Longneck....Good luck Friday night. Hopefully he has recovered from the knock but reading into your comment he may need a better barrier and some runs to get the fitness into him. Will you go along???

Baggers...Good luck in Terang Cup also....Great draw but I think the 1 begins quick also...Will be cheering as usual... Thumb Up   Thumb Up ..( Still makes me feel like I am talking to a ghost hehe...I know you are out there somewhere my friend. Hope you health is good  Thumb Up   Thumb Up )

Yes I will be going for a look, apparently he has improved a bit but would need a bit of pressure on up front which I just can't see happening in an R0 race.

Have another addition to the stable coming soon.  Bought a 3yo which has been broken in and gaited and then in paddock for 12 months. By Sunlamp.  $1000     so not expecting too much, just a horse to have a bit of fun or agony with. sad

Hi Luck, he is going around tonight at tabcorp park trials. From a stand i think...Has had a few light weeks to try and freshen him. Tests revealed nothing and even had blood done at different place incase they were missing something but got same result that looks ok...

Will update tomoz after trials.. Thumb Up   Thumb Up

When do you expect the champ back at the races???

Good luck tonight Denzil, hope he recovers his spark,

Haven't spoken to CW since the win at Maryborough, I am going to give him a bell in the next week. I would surmise that he had a week off and is back heading to the vicbred, where we can race you off level marks.  Thumb Up
