Former jockey Lachlan Fyfe who fell victim to a terrible race fall in 2008 will set off on an epic bicycle ride from Rosehill on Saturday.
Fyfe will cover around 940 kilometres on a ride spanning from Rosehill to Eagle Farm in Brisbane.
The former apprentice to Graeme Rogerson has displayed an against-the-odds rehabilitation from horrific brain injuries sustained in the fall at Hawkesbury.
Despite living with permanent brain injuries and difficulty with his short term memory, Fyfe has been able to increase his fitness and coordination enough to cycle.
“He got tired of riding in the gym so he bought a road bike instead,” Paul Innes, chairman of the National Jockeys Trust said.
“It is incredible to see him muster the endurance and skill required to take on such a major ride like this less than two years after such a devastating race fall.”
Through the ride, Fyfe will raise awareness for the work of the National Jockeys Trust established in 2004 to assist ill and injured jockeys and he will also raise funds for Riding for the Disabled (Central Coast Division).
Fyfe won’t be alone on the ride; he will be accompanied by a support crew which includes twin models Zoie and Melanie Swindells who will be driving a Jayco motor home which will accommodate his overnight stops.
