I'm sure we all send best wishes to the young lad and his family. A tense time ahead but sounds at least to have some positive signs from the scans.

Sydney apprentice Lachlan Fyfe is in an induced coma after falling in a Hawkesbury barrier trial this morning.

Fyfe left the track unconscious and was rushed to Nepean hospital after falling from the stricken Mealtime which broke a leg in the final trial of the morning.

“The last report I got, about an hour ago, was he is still unconscious but we were told that scans taken didn’t show any brain injuries and the doctors were looking to bring him out of the induced coma,” Chief Steward Ray Murrihy said.

“He’s taken a bad fall and they are never good so we’ve got our fingers for his health.”

The 3kg claiming is apprenticed to Randwick trainer Graeme Rogerson and in recent weeks has booted home a handful of metropolitan winners.

A little at a time, aap reports:

"Lachlan is breathing without assistance," a Racing NSW spokesman said.

"He has not yet regained consciousness but is beginning to stir."

Fyfe, who is indentured to leading Sydney trainer Graeme Rogerson, was riding an unraced two-year-old when the horse broke its leg about 100 metres from the winning post.

Meanwhile, Lachlan Fyfe remains in a coma in a Sydney hospital, eight days after he was taken off medication to allow him to regain consciousness.

Fyfe was placed in a coma after a fall at the Hawkesbury barrier trials on Monday last week.

“There’s was no change late yesterday when I spoke to the hospital,” Racing NSW Chief Steward Ray Murrihy said.

“They we’re going to put him out in a ward but he had a touch of a fever so it didn’t happen.

“He’s still in Intensive Care and hasn’t regained consciousness.”

Apprentice jockey Lachlan Fyfe, unconscious in a Sydney hospital for 10 days following a racetrack fall, has woken on Christmas Day.

The 23-year-old was rushed to Nepean Hospital following a sickening fall in a barrier trial at Hawkesbury on Monday, December 15.

He was put in an induced coma and attached to a life-support system, a Racing NSW official said after the fall.

Initial scans did not show any brain injury but doctors described his condition as serious after the fall from an unraced two-year-old in the last of eight trials.

A spokesman for trainer Graeme Rogerson, to whom Fyfe is indentured, confirmed the young jockey had "woken up" on Thursday.

Fyfe's family from the NSW Central Coast have remained at the jockey's bedside since his hospitalisation.

Hey lads
i was talking to a guy who tells me the kid is still not talking
all he does is wake up and go back to sleep etc, gee i hope
this young bloke comes good however its not looking good
at this stage as the doctors expected he would be alot further on in his progress, poor kid

I heard from the stable this week that Lachlan is making very slow progress. Everyone has their fingers crossed that he will make a full recovery.
