This thread is for the RIDE OF THE WEEK in Brisbane and SE Qld tracks.

It doesn't have to be a good ride - but one that's attracted your attention.

Brisbane's been the nursery for some of Australia's best jockeys - although most "experts" would argue that they don't really get to be champions until they get to Sydney or Melbourne.

Pleasing to see apprentice Matt McGAUREN get a winner at just his second ride at Dbn on LUCKY LUNA.  Not much went right in the run, but he kept the horse balance and came away for a deserved win.

But the award must go to comeback rider Larry CASSIDY.  He got a double.  While he had his share of luck on HAVATRYST it was still a masterly effort to find a slot behind the speed.  The race was won on the turn.  In the last he teamed up again with THEFIFTHHOLE and the GC 4yo was back to winning form.

Liked Yamada's ride on Around The World. Gave the horse every chance to perform.

Giving this week's award to Grafton-based apprentice Anthony ALLEN for his win on General Purple.

The lad was able to get the smart 6yo to step away and was let slow the speed for the middle section.  On the home turn he looked to have plenty in reserve, and gave the opposition no chance in the run home.

Allen is likely to transfer his indentures to a Brisbane trainer.  Should be a welcome addition to our riding ranks.  Thumb Up

I've seen some remarkable finishes at Doomben over the years.
Norifumi Yamada's ride on Around the World rates highly amoung those finishes.
The way he extricated ATW form the position he was in when all seemed impossible for him & his mount was nothing short of extraordinary.
Ride of the week for my money  Thumb Up

Yeah me too Vintage!

I didn't read the stewards report until after I had posted my comment.

Nevertheless it was a great ride. Not sure Colless would agree  biggrin

He's riding well, for sure.  Rex Lipp has been providing plenty of encouragement.

Wasn't the desired outcome for me.  Tipped the $1680 first four, yet backed 3 of the 6 and they all ran unplaced.  That's a top effort. Thumb Up

Tim BELL got the choccies for the Patinack camp in the opener.

Not sure there would have been any accolades flowing up from the coal mines for his rides on SHAMARDASHING and WONDERFUL JESTER, though.

As for his ride on CYCLONE BRAD, the less said the better.

Should be no debate this week.

D Browne on DIAGO.

I can't catch either of them, so it's a no-brainer that I didn't back it. rant

Was a magnificent Munce at EF today.  Super rides on Dodging Eddie and Theft.

I'm giving the gong to Grant COOKSLEY for his winning ride on CARIAD.  He had a bit of luck early, but finding the gap in the straight and a strong ride to the line gave him the spoils.  Thumb Up
