One well known good judge was caught weeping yesty even though he had backed it.  Turns out he took the 20/1 on offer before its last start failure. He went to the races lamenting the probable loss of his stake and then had the joy of winning but still in despair that he finished up with 20/1 about an 80/1 winner  Seems that prepost betting not always the best option. |

That bloke should be celebrating not weeping. In this case pre post betting was the best option.
If he wasnt on at 20's he wouldnt have been on it at all.
If he still liked it after its last run he would have taken the 80's as well.

He should have backed it at 80's considering that was the race he had selected it to win. Not all horses have to be unbeaten to peak for the one they're set for. No sympathy from me. I had Forensics going in a Newmarket/Slipper double with Miss Andretti for a largish return but kept backing it the more it drifted. I loved that day  |

Interesting point to ponder from today's C-M....had connections of debut winner TEMPLE OF BOOM opted to take up a berth in the MM, eventual winner PHELAN READY would not have got a run....and PAPRIKA would have won....and the headlines would have been much different....and just racing would not have had to tell us that MM races are not good betting mediums, and that fictional times fanatics were told weeks ago to back PR.

Conclusion: The race has four winning chances - in order Paprika, Horizons, Carlton Forward and Moonlight Hussey. Box them up in a trifecta and that will cost you $24 for $1 or $12 for a 50 cent unit.

Bart Sinclair reports in today's C-M that PAPRIKA has a "slight injury" - "a small cartilage injury".
Tests were reportedly inconclusive but she's unlikely to head for the Slipper.
On the other hand, PHELAN READY is off to NSW.
