Nathan Exelby reports in today's C-M that the new Sky HDTV van will come into operation on Brisbane courses next week.

BRC's Kevin Dixon commented, "Up until now we have been inferior to Sydney and Melbourne.  This will take us beyond them and in fact will probably make them envy us."  stop

Sky's Brendan Parnell chimed in, "This is about lifting Queensland racing to global standards of television.  It provides Qld with the best quality racing production in Australia, if not the world."

Additional $6 mill units will be gradually deployed around Qld.

Does this mean we can get race finish photos on the website like the ATC does?  Wouldn't be hard to capture a still off the HD video for posting.  Even better would be a still and an elapsed lead time for the 800, 600, 400 & 200m points.  If BRC don't want to do it, perhaps one of the other Bris racing websites might.  I daren't think this might expand to race replays and BRC TV productions for racing in SEQ.

If they want to see what can be done with this technology just peruse the Perth racing website.  Alasdair Robertson bought their mobile van some years ago and they are a significant production entity and a great information point for WA racing.

Club officials were puzzled at the queue waiting to get into Doomben yesterday.

Problem solved when it was realised that the leading Brisbane tip sheet had Doomben as the venue for yesterday's meeting.

I hope the tip sheet was a good one.

If they got the venue wrong ... what else did they err with?

Wonder if they provided the bus/taxi fares to take the patrons over the road?

The story is a good one though - any publicity is good ... if it puts racing in the news! dry

EDIT: What qualifies a tip sheet to be "the leading Brisbane tip sheet?" Are there other tip sheets that aren't quite as good?  lol

Janice

re your edit, the criteria that are usually applied to tip-sheet quality are:

1. Cost

2. Perfomance

3. Circulation numbers

4. Longevity

I'm about to quit my service.

Yesterday I got Bris/Syd/Melb - with the unreliable/poor or no-form races omitted.

Sydney: 9 races rated ... 5 races recommended for betting ... two winners - Said Com $2.00 ...  and Rain Affair $1.50
Melb: 7 races rated ... 6 races recommended for betting ... two winners - Spirit Song $1.70 and Black Caviar ... $1.20 (good value)
Bris: 6 races rated ... 2 races recommended for betting ... no winners.

The races all had 4 rated runners given, with best-on-top.

That made 22 races x 4 rated runners for a total of 4 short-priced winners on top that I could have picked myself ... and in the 22 rated races, 8 winners in the top 2, and 13 in the top 4.

To get those 13 winners, you needed to dutch 22 races x 4 starters. With the short-prices, it was a forgettable experience, though I won't forget.

Thankfully I have a 30-day money-back offer ... no questions asked.

This has been a similar story for the past 3 meetings.

Could be wet-track probs, or out-of season tipping? Or just a bum-tipper. There were a few bolters getting through yesterday.

Sorry to go off-topic.

EDIT: Is there a thread for discussing these donkey services and of course the good ones?

Plenty of cheers at Dbn when THAT'S THE ONE, owned by BRC director Bill Sexton, saluted at Flemington.

A very smart galloper, and plenty more to come.
