Mark Shean.
As some might know I have a big wrap on him as a caller. And was one of the first to recognise his calling abiity, if I may be so immodest.
But I did a double take yesterday when he said of the finish of the Todman (Pierro v Epaulette):-
"in a bobbing finish"
I've understood a "bobbing finish" to mean they are bobbing out of sync.
I've never seen a finish where the bobbing was in such unison.

I found the tvn experience extremely odd y'day...Richie seemed to be high on unknown substances ...Brian York doesn't work...then listened to Matty Hill call replays today and sky seem to relate the races better...TVN have got that many employed it's non stop yap....i prefer just to let the horse action do the talking...

i think you're technically correct, it wasn't a case of one head up, the other down, probably pierro getting up off the canvas surprised shean a little...overall he's an excellent caller

Definitely not bobbing. Which could have been very lucky for Nash because as cool and calm as he might has seemed after the race I can guarantee he was crapping himself at the 150m.

This makes me laugh. Greg Miles has called horses the wrong name 3 weeks, Gran Sasso ran third not last Greg, and mixed up Americain and Manighar in the Australian Cup at the 200m but a bobbing finish gets a mention. That will do me, heaven help the guy if he ever gets a finish wrong.

Must admit he is having a shocking run I love his voice but Wow he is one of the ones that needs to retire gracefully.

Who cares if is bobbing up and down or sideways or doing cartwheels, the only thing that matters is he gets a short half head photo right. Authorized i will comment on whatever i like as it is your right as well. I will also comment to thank you for your usual useless imput.

I care. I just want to point out that even the greatest caller ever to sling binoculars around his neck can make a mistake, a mere trifle of a mistake, but one has to take mistakes as they are offered.

Agree. No one has ever been as accurate at describing a race, the chances, the pace and the ones that can't win.

The early criticism of him was his voice " Sounds like he's calling trackwork or a barrier trial" was a commom put-down.
I couldn't care less if he's got voice like Donald Duck or Foghorn Leghorn or any voice in between as long as he gets those basics right.
And he's not too bad at photo finishes, however as long as callers don't just have a stab to prove (sic) themselves heroes I couldn't care less about that aspect of the call.
