I found it interesting that "Hoss" said "If WE lose the racefields legislation".

"When the corporates ban even more punters that they can't make a quid off will they go to the tote where they can't get a fixed price or are competing against rebates?

If they can't get on betfair will they bother with racing anymore when they can bet on sports at a lower market % with less form required?

If the middle tier is mostly lost and the whales are mainly preying on small fish, there'll be smaller returns, less interest and less turnover."

The above is a previous quote of mine on this forum from over a year ago. When less people are involved and pass on their interest to their kids and share it with their friends, we will have a UK racing scenario in no time.

They are talking about improving the return to owners. Of course, the easiest and smartest way to do this is for multi millionaire breeders to reduce their fees and other 'back door deals' but considering the controlling interests in the industry, I doubt they are too bothered. They will be living high on the hog of the racing industry while they ride it into the ground.

Year 2042.
Punters have been chased out of  racing  by breeders who deem themselves to be 100% of the industry and they have full control. Punters were not important, it was decided at the board meeting of 2031.

Leading sire is Redoutes My Pa.
Prizemoney earned by progeny = 47 Meat trays, 28 Blue Ribbons and 2 cases of Bundy Rum.

Press Alert- The Melbourne Cup prize money has been decreased by 50% this year to 4 Cups of Coffee at any Coolmore Coffee Club.

I'm starting to think that Jim must have been an old S P Punter and then in the 1990's a Vanuatu Punter. If that's the case then his contribution to the industry was not as great as it should have been .

And if that is the case he has been bludging off most punters and continues to do so by betting with only Betfair.

lol   Punters as a whole will never give racing away. Sports betting will never give them the rush.

Much ado about absolutely no risk of any substantial change at RacingNSW -- unless the levy legislation falls over

A month ago the Daily Telegraph ran a typically well-briefed story headlined:

NSW racing industry about to embrace an era of momentous change

One month on the only sure bet is that nothing of any significance at all is about to happen at RacingNSW voluntarily -- the story line will, however, come true if the racefields levy legislatiion falls over.

Finally flushed out in two open interviews -- on SKY and TVN --  the new chairman, while alluding to some coming surprises, only revealed, as unchanged, the distorted mentality that has been fatally handicapping NSW racing for a decade or more.

Given the vested interests, this guy cannot aspire to do anything different and it is most likely that he does not want to do anything different anyway -- the prevailing culture at RNSW has beeen set in stone by previous boards beholden to breeder interests.

As is, it looks like RacingNSW has bet all its money on a fanciful revival driven by a new grandstand at Randwick and, by inference, some pleading for RVL to back off the preemptive pressure being put on the Easter Carnival in NSW -- unfortunately that game is over, neither a former attorney general nor the best ceo in Australian racing history would be giving any ground to any NSW pleading for an anti competitive deal to bail it out.

The elephant at the door of RacingNSW is the probability -- in my view -- that the High Court will set aside the racefields levy legislation which is contrary to the constitutional protections on competitive free trade across the federated states.

If that happens RacingNSW is about to be the focus of a revolution -- and Australian racing, and NSW racing especially, will be all the better for that.

Wait for the next free running interview of the new chairman of RacingNSW  -- an exercise in indulgence or a prelude to true reform?

Say what you like about him, but Singo's a funny bugger.

And great to hear him say More Joyous will race until she decides otherwise. Thumb Up

I love his column in the Terrorgraph on a Friday even if I do not agree with 41% of it.

Gee Doubles, you move in much more salubrious circles than Ascot

It is amazing that you could take that photo with your Iphone and have your eyes closed at the same time.
