No doubt the Chris Munce / Hong Kong Jockey Club fiasco still lingers in the minds of the HKJC administration. It has been reported that the HKJC will boycott the Sydney Easter Sales .If the HKJC goes ahead with the boycott they not only will not purchase anything but they will not force the prices up on yearlings they may have been underbidders. Vendors will lose out twice.

It has also been reported the chief executive of the HKJC, Winifred Engelbrecht- Bresges, ( no relation of Engelbert Humperdinck    biggrin )  has questioned the future of Peter V'Landys future as CEO of Racing NSW. WE-B questions whether "V'Landys has done everything in the Munce case to qualify to work in the position of CEO Racing NSW".

Do not know whether Betfair is opening a market on V'Landy's tenure but he is no good thing to be around in a year's time as CEO Racing NSW

The best thing to come out of that story is the idea that all those youngsters that would have gone to Hong Kong will instead in all likelyhood stay in Australia.

Not sure if the breeders offering yearlings at the sale will agree with you--in a time of 'slowdown' it is not good to see a potential high quantity buyer leave the market

It is good for local racing that the yearlings stay in Australia but if you are a breeder, it is a different story. If I had to pay $200-250k for a service fee and then expenses only to be old that one of the biggest buyers would not be coming, I would be very upset.

Also before we jump up and down regarding HKJC, Racing NSW made their own decision regarding Munce and HKJC have made their own regarding buying yearlings in NSW. All this means is that some breeders will now be trying to bypass the easter sales and sell elsewhere in the future if this boycott materialises for the next few years.

...or the HKJC will just purchase more off the paddock, or allow more private purchases of tried racehorses.....

Boycotting the sales because of a dispute with Racing NSW over Munce makes as much sense as Racing NSW boycotting Chinese made goods over the treament of Tibet  Sad

I concur. Politics in sport is annoying. 1980 and 1984 Olympic games come to mind plus who could forget the tv rights issue in sydney a few years back.
