Without the coverage in the media, most punters would never have a bet.

While the roles of the print media and radio have declined somewhat they're still the window into racing for lots of us.  But it's the televised race coverage and the internet where we've seen most changes in the last decade or so.   Punters now see and hear so much of the leading trainers and jockeys that they feel they know them as well as they do their next door neighbour.

With the expansion of the racing media has come a disparate band of journos, commentators, tipsters, interviewers, price-assessors, bloggers, analysts, etc.   Some are long-term contributors; others are new-kids-on-the-block.  Some really are experts; others are little more than talking heads.  Some love the industry and are genuinely committed to its welfare; others are rip-off merchants peddling shonky tips.  It should not be unexpected that media personnel are under continuous scrutiny from the racing audience and bear the brunt of some savage criticism.   Hard-marking punters treat failed tipsters as they would a publican serving hot beer.

Let's post our comments, criticisms and praise of the racing media on this thread.

If I was the owners of that horse Weekend Special I don't think I would be real happy with Kav's placement of her, she probably could have won a race worth another $20,000(which the owners get) but he had them forgoing $20,000 so he could get a new car ,(he even made Rodd stay to ensure every chance of getting the car for him, not so the owners could benefit) for mine that is unethical and I reckon all these bonus schemes for Trainers are just a con to get better fields without actually paying for them,

I remember a few years ago Rogerson sent about 6 truck loads of horses to Wagga or Albury and his owners with City class horses were racing for bush prizemoney so he could get the $200,000 bonus(which he got) many other trainers sent a lot of  city class horses there too, the Carnival was a huge success over the 2 days for the Club and Roggie, to get a similar lot of fields by offering Prizemoey would take well over a $million, they got it for $200,000( even then it was covered by insurance with the chance that no one would get the bonus anyway)

In Short these bonuses are a Con on owners

He was getting a little flustered with all the jumps races happening and when an English chap started talking before a race, Chris [Kearns] decided to say "SHUT UP" and then went on to say "I'll be glad when all this is over"

If you don't want to do the job, give it up for someone that does.

He should be sacked for carrying on like that, I for one don't want to hear it.

I can understand his frustrations.

Why they even need hosts in Australia is beyond me, but as it is I can fully understand where he is coming from Trying to fit all this racing onto one channel.

When the Flat season comes around they will have Skyworld back in action, meanwhile with LONGER races on top of each other these dimwits hibernate one of the channels.

censored s they are, censored s.

SKY should be giving us the European feed on one channel and the South African feed on the other ?

TABCORP own SKY and he gets paid by TABCORP, he chose his profession, if people don't bet, he doesn't have a job, I don't want to hear his whinge.

What did give me the shits was they showed a race at Haydock instead of Gloucester Park (an Aussie race), then next at Haydock, they didn't show it live, instead they showed a horse with gear problems at GP. Haydock was run and won before GP started.

Can't find the appropriate thread but winner of first at Gosford named Shiso, is not pronounced as SHY-SO but  SHISO.

It is the Japanese of the mares name.

Pat O'Shea at Toowoomba after Race 4 commenting on Outback Legend's time of 59.99 for the 1000m words to the following effect:

"That is only 4/100ths of a second OUTSIDE the class record of 60.03 held by G'Day Old Mate....."

Who's calling at Rocky today?

I just listened to the 5th and had no clue as to what was going on for pretty much the whole race.

Worst I've heard for ages. Just terrible.
