Wasn't there something that went on regarding the Cheif Steward that was kept all hush hush ??

Way to young in my opinion (wasn't that long ago he was struggling to chair a bush meeting), but then thats what QR want, someone like Sanders that THEY can control no doubt.

it will be long odds on that young birch will get the nod, bogon bob would never entertain the appointment of a chief steward who he couldnt control, good heavens, if he got a steward from another racing juristriction who had a successful background as a steward he might gazump BB. still trying to work out why there are no "young" stewards somewhere on this planet, BB's recent appointments of 70 year old john schreck and 70 plus geoff lane are bolts from the blue, specially schreck who i understand lives in sydney commutes to brisbane weekly, so QR and BB is up for flight tickets, accomodation, living exes etc etc for a 70 year old ex everything, but i guess BB has control over him

Appointing Schreck was a big surprise to me.I  wouldn't think, despite his long experience, he'd bring anything new to the table.

And whatever they pay him plus costs of commuting and accommodation would add considerably to the wages bill.Couldn't give it a tick of approval.Thumb Down

Geoff Lane imo is in a different category,he lives locally and would be well qualified to act as a steward on a casual basis

i personally think "birchy" is up to the job,my hesitation is that when bob purged the ranks{railton, reardon and graham hargreaves and david tapsall}  after the all about class affair so he could control every action of the stewards ....sanders and birch whir deliberately sent bush to be out of the process so the suggestion that he is not a bentley yes man is clearly wrong....schrek and lane imo are good recruits and the sooner johhny cant hackitt and little norman leave the better...probally with bob....at this stage the jury is still out on birch cool

Have to disagree that Birch is up to the job.

The only reason Sanders and Birch went "bush" as you say in 2003, was they were the only jobs going, so it was the bush or centrelink so to speak!!.

As for JH & Little Normie, why are they still there???.

ted i am sure lane and schreck would be delighted that as 70'odd years old they appreciate being called recruits!!!!!!!
they are just window dressing for bogon bob, he thinks we are all so dumb we dont remember the trouble schreck got into in sydney many many years ago, involved ex kiwi jocks immediate family, say no more; and BB has employed him as integrity manager; god help us, he has big shoes to fill, remember the useless Bob Mason, spent 3 months trying to find source of caffeine crisis many moons back even tested the grass horses were eating; they handed the investigation to the state drug lab and found the answer on the first day; tested the sticks used to mix the samples and bingo the sticks were contaminated - poor old bob mason it was under his rose for 3 months but he didnt even use the basic primary school ethic - start at the beginning and work your way along - that was just one of Bingo Bob's numerous failings, dont let me start on fine cotton he was there as well,,,,,,,,,,geoff really nice bloke, best tipster in hong kong, probably provide some help to young birch et al; it would ne nice to se birch's job advertised interestate but then again all of our good stewards who now are in other States would not want to return to Bob's barnyard. and no jobs in QR have ever been advertised nationally, shock horror, if they were we might get some people with actual racing experience, not failed boiler makers, ex race club pen pushers etc etc who now run QR under BB's watchful eye

some good points there.....my take on the stewards and integrity and running from anothers great suggestion on here is to relocate them to the office of liquor licensing, gaming and racing....the office of racing has no racing people in it and have never had the pleasure to talk to anyone there ever......for the bush areas multi-skilling of the stewards to handle liquor licensing issues would save probally a million dollars...in the city obviously its almost fulltime but instead of tying up the ever dwindling police numbers stewards in the metro area {over 12 in number} could be used in liquor licensing enforcement with out the need to take officers from the beat ,multi-skilling again would make for a better person and sav the state once again....obviously there is /has been a severe shortage of these people hence my comment......industry integrity is a interesting one and i believe that it should be totally away from the control body and the stewards to regain the lost confidence/accountabilty that you describe......as if they truly and properly investigate their own....3 classic examples missing nq steward chris somebody ????? all about class affair????? missing ambulance melb cup day07 mackay australia wide coverage with johhny hackitt letting consecitive races start with out a ambulance let alone a adandoned one on the course proper......two ways to go with integrity one is within the police force due to the serious nature of integrity offences i.e assualts fraud etc or 2 within the racing ministers office....my take would be from within the racing ministers office and add to integrity stakeholder welfare......there needs as we are all saying in these interesting times a more inter-active approach between the govt and industry and this would be a way forward....this would also eliminate a racing advisors position because the ones know in wee wee frasers office have never been seen or heard from since 06 correct me if im wrong but what do we pay them for ? spin doctoring or sports rorts in darts case?
industry unity and discussion makes for a better racing environment post bob and his yes men.....probally save a million in wages between govt, qrl and liquor licensing!!!!!
all in favour say eye eye captn bligh
