Typhoon Tracy won her only start at Moonee Valley on the 26th September '08 in very impressive fashion, be it against weak opposition.

She has been entered to have her first run since then at Caulfield on Monday with G. Boss on board.

She should start a short priced favourite to win that race but my thoughts for her are big and in the future.

She has been entered for the Newmarket Hcp and with a light weight she could be a real chance in my opinion.

Am I thinking too high for her ? Time will tell ...........

Typhoon Tracy could be off to England

Bookmark and share
|

Thursday, 4 February 2010:

Peter Moody is concentrating on winning a Group One double on his home track at Caulfield with Typhoon Tracy in Saturday's CF Orr Stakes and the Futurity Stakes later this month, and if she does she may be bound for England.

Moody took Magnus to England twice with his best result a third to Miss Andretti in the 2007 King's Stand Stakes (1000m) which has given the trainer the desire to go back to the Royal Ascot meeting and win a feature race.

"I hate getting beat anywhere and it's a long way from home and I did it twice - so next time I go I want to be winning so it's certainly something I've got to do - it's on the bucket list," he said.

"I thought she'd be ideally suited to the Golden Jubilee, 1200 metres up the hill at Ascot, but I spoke to (Royal Ascot representative) Nick Smith last Saturday and he indicated she'd be a lovely Queen Anne horse - which is the race Haradasun won.

"But that is a mile (1600m) up that hill and I think the 1200 up the hill might be nice for her.

"But there are a lot of options here and our racing's probably better and our prizemoney is better than most parts of the world so there's just as many good options at home to seriously consider.

"We've counted up 14 Group One races for her between 1200 and 1600 metres, set-weights and penalties, handicaps, weight-for-age or fillies and mares between now and the first week of July, so there's a lot of options and the first two are here at her home track, at 1400 (metres) and a mile that look ideal trips."

The leading trainer has assured punters that Typhoon Tracy, one of the stars of his very much in-form stable, will be spot-on for her first-up assignment in the Orr.

The Red Ransom mare is yet to be beaten in seven starts against her own sex and Moody said that her three defeats, in weight-for-age events last spring, were in races for which she was not specifically set.

"I think the three times she did step outside of her own age and sex, circumstances weren't quite right," he said.

"We were training her for a Cox Plate which was her ultimate goal and she probably went into those races a little bit softer than I'd like to think she is going into Saturday's race.

"She's been such a joy to train, she's never had a problem, seven from 10, not too many build up that sort of record but she is still yet to win away from her own age and sex so that is something we're hoping to break on Saturday."

Moody does not plan for Typhoon Tracy to lead on Saturday but it seems certain she will be in the first three with triple Group One winner Sniper's Bullet and Danzylum the other go-forward runners in the 10-horse field.

Would be amazed if she went to UK...he's already identified that many races for her.

Would be great to see a horses have a crack at some of our the other races...Queen Anne etc. Horse like Pompeii Ruler might have been a nice type, though too old now.

Could never understand why you would take a Mare or a Gelding overseas to race, we have as much if not more prizemoney as they do, and you can have many more bites of the apple, you can go through the Melbourne Autumn, then the Galaxy/TJ in Sydney then the big ones in Brisbane you have plenty too choose from on your own "Dung Heap" why go overseas?? suspect they are all a bunch of censored s!!
Stallion potential (Dual Hemispher)can be a lure for an entire (with a pedigree) but a mare can only have one foal a year unless they have massively improved Veterinary science recently, I know they want us to believe that they have made it possible for a Stallion to do 300 or more services a year when Star Kingdom could only do around 45!! but that's another story
A gelding well that is just plain Stupid!!

There are probably a dozen Group ones that would be within her grasp, starting with the Futurity next,  then there are races in Sydney (George Ryder to start with) Then Brisbane all going well,

Yep yep the Futurity is said to be her only other goal at this stage. But Qld has already been mentioned.

So why wasn't Mic Mac running today?

Typhoon Tracy to draw comparisons to Kiwi Sunline with Futurity Stakes win
By Tim Habel
February 26, 2010 Typhoon Tracy versus Sunline - to the New Zealand wonder mare's fans any comparisons border on sacrilegious.

No one is suggesting Typhoon Tracy is in that league yet, but a win in Saturday's Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1600m) will make her record after 12 starts more than comparable with Sunline's.

Sunline won six Group races, including two Group 1s, one against open class, in her first 12 starts as a three-year-old.

Typhoon Tracy, a year older, already has three Group 1s, so a Futurity win would give her four among her six Group-race wins and a second against all-comers.

What sets Sunline apart is her longevity and prowess in the 2000m range. Typhoon Tracy's only unplaced run came at 1800m in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes, her only run beyond 1600m.

Sunline's career was still in first gear after 12 runs.

By the time she was a February four-year-old like Typhoon Tracy, she'd added three wins from eight starts, including a Cox Plate. Sunline raced until aged seven, a further 28 starts and 18 more wins.

Trainer Peter Moody said Typhoon Tracy fans could expect to see her race until at least five.

As for extending her to the 2000m range, Moody said he would not rule it out in the spring.

Sunline's regular jockey, Greg Childs, is a fan of Typhoon Tracy.

"I like her, she's done everything she's been asked to do. Every time she's raced she's lifted the bar," he said. "They have similar styles, on-pacers who make a jockey's job easier."

Childs's observation was that Sunline had a physical edge.

"Sunline was a masculine individual whereas, to me, Typhoon Tracy is finer-boned, not as robust," he said.

"She's adaptable like Sunline. She's got a long way to go but she's going in the right fashion."

Racing Victoria handicapper Greg Carpenter said Typhoon Tracy's international rating was 118. "That would put her one length, or two points, behind Sunline, who rated 120 after her Doncaster win as a three-year-old filly," he said.

Moody wasn't buying into the debate, but said Typhoon Tracy had trained on nicely since her first-up Orr Stakes win.

The Coolmore Classic, Queen Of The Turf and George Ryder Stakes are the three possible Sydney targets, he said.

I think the connections of Typhoon Tracy have been more conservative, but I have no problem putting Typhoon Tracy in the same post code as the great Sunline.

I have no doubt she has similar ability to the great mare, wether she turns out as great as the great mare time will tell.

this is ludicrous comparing her to sunline - i can actually see her getting beat this weekend - dao dao is a serious horse - have seen her win at a mile but only against mares and i'm not convinced about her in a fast run mile - hot danish wasn't right in spring and more a sprinter , the coolmore was a walk and sprint - give me a break - hard to knock her - but let me see her win a doncaster or equivalent before they are mentioned in the same breath

Wont worry about the longevity at this stage...

in terms of ability, very hard to say, as what do you compare? After the same number of starts TT I'd rate TT higher simply because she's run in more mares/open class races....11 starts in Sunline looks to have just won the MV Oaks.

But to an autumn as a 4yo mare, Sunline has won a Doncaster and Cox Plate.

I know some people dislike comparisons but I find it interesting...one thing I know is that Sunline in tomorrows field, at her best [without TT in the race] would have won by some sort of margin - if TT is winning by 2L or more then I'll be upgrading my rating.

At this stage Sunline remains a mare with freakish ability. Haven't got TT at that point yet. She's just a top class mare.

She is wonderful

Best mare since Sunline I would imagine.

Hopefully she gets a chance to prove she's better
