Typhoon Tracy won her only start at Moonee Valley on the 26th September '08 in very impressive fashion, be it against weak opposition.

She has been entered to have her first run since then at Caulfield on Monday with G. Boss on board.

She should start a short priced favourite to win that race but my thoughts for her are big and in the future.

She has been entered for the Newmarket Hcp and with a light weight she could be a real chance in my opinion.

Am I thinking too high for her ? Time will tell ...........

And Moody said this morning that she still was suffering after the run almost 3 days later.

He said that was a clear sign that she had had enough.

Congrats to the owners for not trying to "chase " an extra dollar with a tired horse.

This makes me laugh. I heard the exact same line on the telly tonight. This decision is all about dollars. The owners have pulled out their little notebooks and worked out how much prize money she might win in the next 18 months. They then worked out how much they can sell her yearlings for minus a service fee. Hey Presto- she ain't racin no more.

Thats all well and good vamps but she isn't going to be served for another 6 months.

If they were worried about $$$$ she would still be racing

Very distinguished career. Well managed by Peter Moody. He places his horses very well, especially mares, creating some hype and adding to their stud value - and nothing wrong with that I hasten to add. Looking after the owners.  Thumb Up

Did she deserve HOTY? Certainly has been some discussion about that. Whobe has a 4-0 record against her and may have been a bit stiff not to receive recognition.

Racing is now becoming just a prelude to a big payday for the first or second offspring of a successful mare.

If you had any idea as to how much it costs to race a horse here in Australia Geoff, maybe then you wouldn't begrudge the owner making a nice payday.

I dare say, if any one of our members were in the same situation, and were expecting a huge pay day after a horses retirement, than we would be doing the same thing.

The funny thing is, there is no huge payday if the horse breakdown on the track

An eminently sensible decision by Moody.

She had Saturday's race run to suit, yet fell in.

Moody has implied that she has ongoing issues.  Her likely opposition in upcoming events was only gonna get stronger than she faced on Saturday.  Perhaps she was at her top. unsure

Mark you are letting your emotion for this fine mare get in the way.

Do you believe that was Typhoon Tracy at her best ?

I get the impression a win simply means they are at their best.

Yes I do Matt, or close to it, around 95%. Third up might have been 100% wink

Good track - she'd have won by 2.

I suppose we can now expect any horse who doesn't win by two lengths to be retired.

Wily,

You can whistle all you want. The owners could see that her form wasn't what it used to be.  How many more starts do you think she would have had in the next 6 months? If she had failed or not raced as well as she had, do you think some of the luster from her career could have worn off? As we all know, selling yearlings is a lot about perception and timing.

I am not sure how else I can prove to you that this is how the decision was made. Other than getting the owners to get on here and admit it themselves. And good luck to them I say, nobody questions a family that sells their property at the top of the market. TT's very cluey owners got out after a Group 1 win which they believed was probably going to be her last.

If you can't see how that would add to her value and bypass any potential prize money then I can't help you whistle boy.

it's funny bagging them for retiring her we're any of you in the stable next morning to see the recovery rate and the results of a hard run, but if they gave her another run and she broke down or pulled up distressed you'd be calling them greedy bastards for not retiring her.
