the horse was Our Poetic Prince in Rubiton's Cox Plate ....... the crowd raored as Rubiton came around them slipping out his back leg ...... the young horse was going to win according to the rider until he "shit himself" when the crowd roared .............

The following year ear plugs were applied and the horse won ......

IMO, the only justification for enforcing pre-racing trialling - if that's what I'm reading is the plan - would be if it can be shown that horses which don't have trials are more likely to cause interference in races than do those that do trial.

turning up to a trial is like turning up to trackwork .........

no matter what "trial" you give an unraced 2yo you cannot tell how it will react to a crowd on say VRC Derby Day ........

Victoria Delays New Trial Regulations
Monday, 25 May 2009: Following consultation with stakeholders, the commencement date for compulsory trials/supervised jump outs for unraced horses in Victoria having their first start at city tracks has been deferred.

The new regulation was to start from June 1 but has now been deferred to a date to be determined.

Racing Victoria says it is giving consideration to a proposal for a state wide solution for the conduct of trials and jump outs.

It is intended the new structure for trials and supervised jump outs will be implemented during the 2009/10 racing season.
