Horses racing at Flemington only need to get to the track an hour before their race too ........

Horses and workers will be looked after but a change has been predicted that should drop temps into the low 20's overnight. Tomorrow is expected to only get into the mid 30's .......

OK I get it
Because it's Flemington on a Saturday the horses have to suffer.
I really hope they wake up to 40 plus temps tomorrow

lol .... u guys are clowns ..........

why would they not race on a day when the overnight temp is expected to be 24 and the high tomorrow at 35 ?

What is the overnight low and Saturday high for Sydney and Brisbane tomorrow ?

p.s. your state will go forward in leaps and bounds when you finally decide to stop knocking everything Victorian and take a leaf out of our book .......... the book that rules the Australian racing scene ...... successful carnivals that you guys can only dream about ........

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it as long as you guys show your ignorance ......... "Jealousy is a curse " .........

I completely agree Woody... which makes the decision to abandon Benalla and Yea rather perplexing to say the least...

Edit: Don't worry - just checked the forecast for rest of Vic, and Wangaratta (fairly close to Benalla) is still showing a max of 44 tomorrow... I guess they are on the wrong side of the mountains to get the change coming through today - still think it might have been worth waiting until later tonight to see what happens though.

But outside of Melbourne it is still expected to get to 43 or 44 in the north and north west of the state, why would you take the Melbourne forecast for Benalla?

At last some sensible decisions are being made about calling off these meetings in advance when it is too hot.
Don't forget that there is also a travel factor involved in getting horses to the meetings.
There were plenty of Melbourne & beyond trained horses in at Benalla.
Moody, Vasil, Hawkes, Moroney, Noonan, Musgrove etc. that would have all faced up to 3 hour trip to even get there and I am yet to see an air conditioned horse transport.  Arrive on course at least an hour before race time and either be tied up in small stalls with a corrugated iron roof 18 inches above their heads or walk in the sun. The horses are half 'cooked' even before the race starts.
Having had a horse come down with post race heat stress (on a not terribly hot day) it is not something that I ever want to experience again and would not wish on anybody.

poor Old Larsey ...... didn't get your wish .... lol

Hope you took note of how a successful meeting is run ..... maybe you can pass on some of your new found knowledge to the racing authorities in your area .... in fact, you should demand they take note too .....
