Courier Mail this morning reports intervention by Bob Bentley into track (cushion) issue in Toowoomba.

Bob has previously stated that QR has made an offer to Toowoomba and it was up to them to accept or decline.

This mornings story indicates the offer is now accept OR lookout.

I read the article as threatening. mad

Also I query the cost of $10M.  I thought Sunshine Coast was $5M.
Is it inflation. Or Or Or (something else) no honest men aren't into that. nowink

Bob may have to carry out "dates blackmail" threat even with Cushion Track as most trainers are threatening to walk if it is installed. No trainers no racing on cushion.   lol

I'm willing to bet they will still get fields for the cushion track when it goes in.

BB will raise the prizemoney and the owners won't be able to resist.  After all it isn't up to the trainers.

Builder Bob showing his true colours,

The big baby wants to take his bat and ball home because he can't get the things he wants ...... reeks of the old demolish doomben catastrophe.

Imagine the backlash from the racing industry if Bob spits his dummy and does what he is threatening.

If that happens he should be made to hand in his resignation, and there should also be a probe into the funding of the cushion tracks to make sure there was no illegal activities involving kickbacks or embezzlement.

I cant comprehend why Bob is infatuated with cushion tracks. The numbers and turnover at Caloundra seem to be proof that trainers, owners and punters would prefer grass.

My guess is someone somewhere is getting kick backs for each cushion track that is installed.

MagiC, if you wish to table some sort of evidence on this, I'm sure we would all be most intrested.

The consensus on this site appears to be that we should keep p*ssing industry money away on trucking water to Toowoomba so that the goat track can be maintained in its ideal goat track condition.

Bentley's letter makes some valid points. Why should the industry support a sub standard track when the offer to improve it with funding has been rejected ?.

If Toowoomba does reject it, lets hope some of the surrounding tracks are smart enough to take up the offer.

Valid points, my eye.

Interesting to compare acceptors for Toowoomba on the 'goat track' with the Cushion Track at the Sunshine Coast.

You sound like an apologist for Bentley thenamy when most people can't stand him.  I should point out I have no affiliation whatsoever and don't even reside in the Sunshine State but I can't stand the bullying this clown has gotten away with for way too long.

If he'd had his way I reckon Doomben would have been on the block right now if not sold already.

The moment someone stands up to this bully, true to type, he makes threats etc. that he will not be able to make good on.

Why are you so supportive thenamy?

Do you or any organisation with which you are affiliated receive a benefit from Baghdad Bob?

I challenge you to declare your hand.

Well said Coinswell, couldn't agree with you more.

It's been pretty obvious for some years now imo that TheNanny is well inside BB bunker.

There are some defamatory things being said on this thread so I don't blame anyone for not declaring who they are.

What is the answer if the cushion track doesn't go in at Toowoomba?

or is it just the way BB is going about this that is upsetting everyone.

I reckon the racing Minister has a lot to answer for. Why isn't he making some statement on this. Then again he has enough problems of his own I suppose lol

Seriously, I'm not siding with BB, but what is the answer with Toowoomba?

Most people would say that the track was terrible in the middle of the drought, and they still don't have that much water to play with.

I think it is just become a I hate Bentley thingo and the Courier mail is leading the charge.

BTW , I cannot stand BB as a person myself, but what is the answer?

No way in hell is the LNP going to get into power for at least another term after this coming one, so BB is there for some time yet.  And who said they will get rid of him anyway.

I'm just a small punter who loves to bet on Toowoomba and probably go up the mountain twice a year to a meeting, but I would be pissed off if it was destroyed for good.

The answer is to wait until the Cushion/Synthetic debate is resolved.  As I read the racing landscape, the only voices coming out on the YES side have vested interests.

Let's wait to see how the tracks in place already in Victoria, NSW and Qld stand up to our climate.  Their durability has to be questionable, IMO.

There's also perceptions they contribute to injury.  That will be difficult to prove or disprove, but owners and trainers are looking for answers.

It's not being clever to say that punters remain shy about betting on synthetics.  Some would bet if the race was on a rocky creek-bed, but if the regular, serious punters stay away, these new tracks will be a burden on the industry.

With regard to Toowoomba...suddenly we're told that the track in recent past has been (the equivalent of) a dog-track.  Strange how this wasn't mentioned by those in authority at the time.  Why were meetings held there if that was the case?  Was the track dangerous?  Why weren't the meetings transferred elsewhere?  Sure, no other track has lights, but what would have been the problem with another venue racing on a Sunday.  Maybe Sky had no slot for them?  But I wager they'd be far more profitable (as TAB earners) than the Saturday night version when punters are punch-drunk already from a day of racing.

I bet often at Toowoomba, and right now the track is as good as it's been in ages (by my judgement) and way, way better than many of the country tracks in NSW, Victoria, SA, etc.  Water is an issue for most tracks - grass or Cushion.  Someone else has suggested that water conservation protocols, etc, be investigated.

To dig up a grass track and replace it with a synthetic whose future remains clouded amounts to arrant vandalism, IMO - and it's high time those who care had their say.
