Courier Mail this morning reports intervention by Bob Bentley into track (cushion) issue in Toowoomba.

Bob has previously stated that QR has made an offer to Toowoomba and it was up to them to accept or decline.

This mornings story indicates the offer is now accept OR lookout.

I read the article as threatening. mad

Also I query the cost of $10M.  I thought Sunshine Coast was $5M.
Is it inflation. Or Or Or (something else) no honest men aren't into that. nowink

Bob may have to carry out "dates blackmail" threat even with Cushion Track as most trainers are threatening to walk if it is installed. No trainers no racing on cushion.   lol

SC trainers are to meet tomorrow with Bentley to discuss the disastrous cushion track. i.e. reduced fields, prize money, patrons, bookmakers.

Any News on this supposed meeting held on Tuesday ?

I am a trainer at the Sunshine Coast track, and wasn't informed of any such meeting

Don't know who the actual people were but was told by a local they were meeting him. Ask around I guess as I would rather not reveal who my source is.

Clarity needed on Queensland Racing Limited's TAB grab plan
Bart Sinclair From: The Sunday Mail (Qld) March 27, 2010 11:00PM

THE Queensland Government surely should at least give a public statement on Queensland Racing Limited chairman Bob Bentley's model where he has a target to assume effective majority ownership of all TAB clubs.

Bentley, to his credit, has openly declared his plan.

But it's a tad rich when he controls the purse strings and therefore can starve any club of funds and then unashamedly point the finger if their balance sheet starts to look a bit pale.

The Gold Coast is a classic example of the use (or abuse) of the powers of the control body (QRL).

With more than 700 horses in training at the Coast, it is a critical hub in the production line of runners at TAB meetings in southeast Queensland.

A few years ago, QRL grabbed all the money directed from UNiTAB to the race clubs as part of the product agreement.

The betting commission income is now handed out by QRL. Part of the charter of the control body is to make sure training facilities are adequate, particularly at such an important centre as the Gold Coast.

It is incumbent on the QRL to support training facilities.

Some clubs are well run, some are not. But all are currently working in an unfair atmosphere.

The State Government should be open and accountable. If they support QRL's land grab, at least be honest enough and say it. Don't hide behind a shield of "it's nothing to do with us".

Racing Minister Peter Lawlor should put his stance on the table and explain his reasoning.

The LNP hierarchy seems to be waking from its slumber in racing.

There were a lot of animated phone calls around key racing centres in recent days.

Any more news on this yet ? Seems all to hush hush for my liking, I would like to know what was discussed, and what trainers were invited.

There wasn't anything on the Queensland Racing website, to advise of any meeting, or the agenda, and only one trainer I know of from the Sunshine Coast, was even invited, but Troy Hall never showed apparently.

Would like to know why all the secrecy, unless of course there is something to hide

ole rockvegas falls into the bentley web of my money or your track after his grant/loan trick...the value of being on bob's team will be reflected in the feathering of this second nest to fall under bob's  ownership after caloundra and its record number of meetings and 22 million dollar spend....mackay next to fall and townsville and gold coast on the outer...what a flea is our bentley Sad

Many people ask what Bob Bentley did to justify his induction into the QR Hall of Fame.  A bio from a breeding website says it all:

Bob Bentley

Bob Bentley has been involved in racing most of his life. His first job as an administrator was as the Queensland Bloodhorse Breeders Association treasurer. In 1990 he took over the role of chairman of the then struggling Ipswich Turf Club and soon forged a reputation for his no-nonsense approach and ability to turn failing operations around.

In 1993 he became chairman of the Queensland Principal Club and went about setting the scene for the reform that was to follow many years later. One of his greatest achievements in those early days was to chart a course for racing bodies to look less like representative groups, encouraging independence of the actions of governing bodies.

In 2002 Bob became chairman of the Interim Thoroughbred Racing Board.

In more recent times he has been responsible for the forging of the three racing codes into one in Queensland and through the support of the Bligh Government delivered $80 million to the industry through a redirection of wagering taxes for capital development.

Bob Bentley is an extremely modest man and always puts the industry first. He is also Queensland’s inaugural chairman of the Australian Racing Board and vice-chairman of the Asian Racing Federation.

Not another "boatie"

No other nominees.........very unusual..........most of these positions rotate between the States in an ordered arrangement.

Arsenal, I understand there is a distinct lack of interest in the position from the States and Bob had noone to hand the baton to.  RVL now in dissaray, RNSW too amused with its own contemporary successes to care.  Not much brewing in SA or Tassie.  WA quite happy doing its own thing.  With an election due in Qld in about 12 months I doubt if Bob will run two laps again.
