If you havnt seen it and you cant think of a dvd to get out one night i reccomend 21. I loved it. "In order to be accepted into Harvard School of Medicine, Ben Campbell will have to save $300,000 for the course. Only problem about this is the Ben can't get this amount of money. After being impressed by his skills in his Math's lesson, Prof. Micky Rosa invites Ben to become a member of a small group; a group who are planning to walk out of Vegas with millions, thanks to Ben's card counting."

They've made it a lot harder now OL, playing with six decks, reshuffling often... makes it pretty hard to get an edge by counting any more.... and it wasn't really a question of being 'good enough', anyone can count cards - you don't need to be rain man or anything. With card counting in blackjack, as long as you can add or subtract one each time a card is dealt, and keep a single number running total in your head, you're sweet

thats the running total burnt toast, you then do whats called a true count, you do that by estimating how many decks are left to play, and divide the running total by remaining decks, and theres your true count, and thats what you base your staking on. counting is virtually a thing of the past now, since the advent and introduction of the autimatic shufflers

Yeah, but with six decks - even before auto shuffling, where they'd reshuffle after about one deck had gone - unless you had a very high running total (positive or negative), you're not going to get enough of an edge for it to be worthwhile.

Cool - I know the number of decks and where they cut-off etc. was (and I guess still is) wildly different from casino to casino - I'm sure some of the things I've read said some places in Vegas were cutting off at 5, and you're right, the idea there was to get rid of the counters, but it makes sense that most casinos would have looked for a point that might keep some of the counters interested enough, yet not give up all their edge.

Hollywood turned a feel good fact into a feel bad movie. I was expecting a casino version of 'Let it Ride ' In 21 the star of the show has his winnings stolen and gets bashed by casino security. This did not happen in real life.
