Hi, first time post so not sure I'm posting in the correct area...

Late last year i purchase a 10% share of a colt by Lucky Owners... This is my first purchase & would like some advise... I've been told by the trainer that it's better to race him as a 3 years old & not rush him, also to geld him... i know i should take the trainers advise but would like to know if this is normal... as i've seen plenty of 2 years old race...

Yes, is good advice and take your trainers word ..... looks like he is trying to do the right thing by your horse  thumbsup

I have no problem with giving young horses time to mature and grow ...... most times it does them the world of good. As far as gelding him, I would take the trainers advice there too ....

A few years ago i was in a synd' of a horse called Lucky Swing from some people on the north coast.
I wonder if they are related?
I hope for your sake they aren't as Lucky Swing was lucky to beat the ambulance home on more occasions than not.

The Heckler that won the Karaka Millions is a Lucky Owners gelding.

Otherwise, he does not seem to have a had a lot of 2yo runners. With his 2nd crop now 2yo, he has 6 winners from 44 starts by 5 individual winners of 19 individual starters.

Batman, I would take the advice of the trainer. That is what you pay him for.

Also, you need to consider the breeding of the mare.

It is excellent advice except if the trainer keeps him in his stable for a year and charges accordingly. If that happens, the horse is a cat and he wants to keep his income flow steady until raceday when you finally find out he ain't worth feeding !
