Racing Retro gives Brisbane racing a very scant coverage  most of the time but with no metro meeting in Melb Sat Brisbane was in the spotlight and finally some on point comments were made about the out of kilter percentages bet by the bookies in the Brisbane ring compared to Sydney.  Ronnie quoted one race of 104% compared to 140/150% in Brisbane.Somethings got to be done said Ronnie a sentiment we,or most I expect, would agree with.Bet with the corporates was one suggestion he put forward. We're already doing that.I think the Clubs  and QRL should  front the bookies and put some pressure on them. One thing they could do is open the ring up or threaten to do so as bookies don't like competition. Get Tidy and others a license to field And if Brisbane bookies are bad how much worse are their Gold Coast mates I've seen percentages over 200% at times and hardly ever get below 150% at starting. Thumb Down

"Are the PUNTERS..?"

A few old hardheads that pick the eyes out of the prices, a few desperadoes, a few louts there for the booze and birds, and not much more as a rule on any given Saturday. (Change a few to hardly any for midweek metro racing)

The track has lost one generation, perhaps two, and is on a fast track to lose three. IMHO

Long gone are the days when the track was the only game in town and the sooner those in power realise that the better off we will all be.

Yes, user, it's time to get rid of the internet and TV coverage, close down all the TABs, take away people's cars and bring back the trams, reopen the Flat, etc.

People will stream back to the racecourses.  Thumb Up

I think they realised hardened Aussie punters are a tad too discerning to fall for that stuff.

Morew like a decade ago from memory.

I'm sure Singo was one of the think tanks behind this move to have racing without spectators....Gee he was a visionary in regards to racing without spectators on track. lol

Yes for sure.  Jim (or was it Bill?) Grace ran a great joint in the Valley.

There'd be other reasons, lost in the haze of time. lol
