Following the declaration of the vote, and leaks from the meeting facilitated by a disgruntled David Dawson representing the Queensland Turf Club and regular blogger on www.racehorsetalk.com.au signing under the name ‘dubbledee’, Queensland Country Racing Committee (“QCRC”) member Gary Peoples, the recently deposed National party Mayor of the Shire of Aramac, who incidentally lost his position after local Council amalgamation, advised that the QCRC vote was invalid. His claim was that Bill Ludwig, as QCRC Chairman, had failed to consult with QCRC members prior to casting the country vote, notwithstanding that Bill Ludwig had discussed the matter at 11 Country racing forums the previous month. By the way, David Dawson was unhappy as he represented the one vote and was in the distinctive minority feeling very alone.

Ok, overall tone suggests DD is twisted, bitter and has no friends... but doesn't it say that Gary Peoples (and later Bill Carter) are the one who declared the vote invalid and caused all the problems, trying to discredit Bill Ludwig - claims that were later dismissed.

Is Bob suggesting that DD was in cahoots with Carter, Peoples and Horan, in bringing about these complaints (I have no idea what went on btw)? He's not mentioned again in the article anywhere, yet the above paragraph sounds quite personal and almost at odds with the rest of the press release....

Any further gossip - can you elaborate further DD or are your hands tied? Maybe Bob Bently is just getting sick of all the negative posts about him on here?

The 2005 Racing Inquiry, which cost the public a mere $4 million, raised questions about Queensland Racing's boss Builder Bob Bentley's leadership style. He obviously hasn't learned much. The latest chapter gets an airing today when Toowoomba members vote on a cushion track. No matter what the result BB has again proved a major embarrassment. I have lost count of the people who told me they were offended by his behaviour and in particular a letter he sent to Toowoomba members about the track and vote. The way the whole thing has been handled is yet another instance where confrontation rather than consultation is BB's choice of weapon. But the big question is yet to come. You see, BB has spent millions of public money on upgrading a track Queensland Racing owns (Caloundra) and one way he can fully utilise it is to take dates away from Toowoomba. More than a few are asking about the legal ramifications. The funny thing is the cushion surface has proved its worth as a backup track at Caloundra. About 95 per cent of people would cheer if QR left the Toowoomba grass but built a back-up cushion track on the inside.

If you believed everything Oberhardt said you would think that the QLD Racing Industry is on the verge of collapse (a bit like my mate Teddy).

Obi just rehashes the same old vendettas and personal agendas week in week out and because he is a gossip columnist never seems to check his facts. (He even got it wrong this week about the number of premierships won by Wynumn Manly in the 80's.)
