Should have had its own thread weeks ago

Equalled the 717 track record after a couple of early checks at Richmond tonight at first attempt over the distance.

A future superstar if you've ever seen one.

Lightening strikes in Wentworth Park upset
 Written by: Peter Davis  14/03/09
The Battle of Waterloo had but only one winner. Napoleon Bonaparte suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of coalition forces in June 1815 and no less surprising was Lightening Lizzy’s dismissal of rising staying star Forty Twenty in the opening race at a rain-soaked Wentworth Park tonight.

While well-related, connections parted with just $3000 for Lightening Lizzy and the Jerrawa-based stayer, though a solid 42.83 winner at the famous UItimo circuit seven days earlier, was not supposed to test Forty Twenty on this occasion.

Forty Twenty – a Goliath in waiting – boasted eight wins from just 10 lifetime starts and was sent out a $1.14 favourite in the five-dog contest.

He had won his only three starts at Wentworth Park, registering 42.35 at his 720m debut on March 7 which followed a record equalling 41.85 romp at Richmond eight nights earlier.

A check at the first turn saw the white and black dog back to fourth in the early stages and he failed to recover.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed injuries to his near side shoulder and off side hind leg. A start in the rich Easter Chase heats at Wentworth Park (April 4) and later heats of the country’s richest staying race – the Sandown Cup on April 16 – have been put in jeopardy.

Lightening Lizzy was able to lead from box four and defy all challenges to score by a clear two lengths from veteran War Hero. Her time (43.14) was not flash yet the offering was consummate.

Miss Panama held third and was three lengths from the winner. Then came Forty Twenty.

Form may be fleeting but class is permanent - Forty Twenty’s stocks will rise again but, this time, all bragging rights belonged with a red fawn ‘David’.

Forty Twenty Will Be Back

Written by: Ben Damon

He's amongst the most impressive young stayers in the country, and Forty Twenty will be back on the track inside a fortnight despite a nasty collision in his most recent start at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Starting an odds-on favourite in the 720m event Forty Twenty was heavily knocked at the first turn and never fully recovered, finishing fourth. The incident shocked both punters and the dog's trainer John Heard.

"I thought 'oh jeez' this dog's broken his hip. The way the dog went down and sort of did the splits, well he could even have broken a hock,” said Heard.

“Luckily he came through with just soreness in his lower back and his hip. It could have been far worse.”

With Forty Twenty to stay on the leash this week, Heard has mapped out a racing campaign for his young star which is aimed at culminating in the invitational distance event at Wentworth Park on Golden Easter Egg night.

"He'll head back to Richmond for a 618m race on Friday week. Then on April 4 he'll be back at Wenty Park for a 720m, and then there's the stayers' race on Egg night that we'd like him to start in," said Heard.

While the Central Coast trainer is confident his stayer won't suffer any lasting physical affects of his Wenty Park crash, he has his fingers crossed the dog will also fully recover mentally. Forty Twenty has won 8 of his 11 races to date, and Heard is hopeful the dog will return with the same kind of winning attitude.

"He's a special sort of dog. He's been really impressive so far and you just hope he doesn't have any mental concerns in his racing after a bump like that. He should be ok though."
