Just read the latest press release from Queensland Racing.

Can't post it - dont know how. lol

But when you get it  - what's Bob doing? what

Is he really defending the industry and QR achievements OR is he "sucking up" to LNP OR is he turning against ALP.

One thing for sure he is reading this forum re: tenure on election result.

QRL chairman challenges both parties to declare their racing policy

The chairman of Queensland Racing Limited (QRL) Mr Bob Bentley today acknowledged that rumours were rife within the industry that, in the event the Liberal National Party (LNP) were successful at the March 21 poll, the board of QRL would be removed.

Mr Bentley confirmed that he had written to both sides of Government on February 24, 2009 requesting a copy of their racing policy.

The racing industry contributes more than $1.6 billion gross value to the Queensland economy. It sustains 30,000 full-time and part-time jobs for Queenslanders and the industry produces in excess of $40 million in State taxes.

The activities of the racing industry generate more that $117 million in taxation revenue for the State and Federal Governments.

“It is not an unreasonable request that the policies of both parties be scrutinised and justification be provided to support change,” said Mr Bentley.

“What the LNP needs to recognise in particular is that the board of QRL has delivered increases of distributions including prizemoney from $75 million to $88 million during the board’s tenure with QRL’s net assets growing from $20 million in 2002 to $68 million at the end of the 2007/2008 financial year.

“Country racing has never been stronger and during their term the board of QRL supported a change to the legislation to ensure that funding continued to flow to this most important part of the industry.

“The integrity of the industry has never been at a higher standard, notwithstanding that it has been streamlined under the current QRL board and the industry has also experienced training and development within the industry that is unsurpassed. The introduction of the industry’s own yearling sale, the QTIS 600, is also a first to assist the Queensland breeding industry.

“Equally, the board of QRL was required to deal with the threat of Equine Influenza (EI) and the organisation responded to the highest standard during the industry’s hour of need, a response that received plaudits from the State and Federal Governments. Further, QRL was responsible for the delivery of $55 million to industry trainers, owners and other participants during EI.”

Mr Bentley cautioned about changes to the governance of Queensland thoroughbred racing in the event that the LNP was successful at the upcoming poll.

“Changes should not be affected on the basis of personal or political agendas,” said Mr Bentley.

“The record of the current QRL board is superior to that of any other thoroughbred racing board in Australia, and indeed, any board or committee previously responsible for the administration of thoroughbred racing in Queensland, stemming way back to the inception of racing in this State.

“QRL is a company limited by guarantee and remains licensed until 2012 to continue with its most important work on behalf of all industry stakeholders in Queensland.

“I challenge both Labour and LNP to release their thoroughbred racing policy so that all industry stakeholders are aware of the direction that each party proposes to take the industry subsequent to the upcoming election.”

That dope who writes on the justracing website gives Bob full billing on yestys post.  At least we know which side that website is on.  Whenever he posts something on a raceclub he gives em full blast.  But if it is about QRL then you would swear he is simply a notice board.

ps as if the opposition racing minister who has been labelled a dinosaur along with domed-bens saviour in bill carter will or should take any notice of the grim reaper of country racing......his propoganda website release playing politics and calling parliment "cowards castle" shows the despots labor slant.....his further pathetic attempt to somehow link mssrs horan and carter to "fine cotton" was a desperate act by a desperate man
his integrity statement is a joke surely?
after the disappearance of mssr woods,dr bob, andy hedges and numerous stewards to be replaced by a new onion in the we investigate "ourselves" rort is evidenced by the  "silence" the media debacle that is/was the terry butts saga-licence back in secret-egg on bob and the onions face

the very fact that in the prescence of wee andy fraser and the minister in charge of dipsticks inc in timmy mulherin and broadcast live to a national melbourne cup day audience at mackay 07 -they covered up the most serious breach of workplace health and safety seen in queensland racing and did not acknowlodge or dissmiss one john hackett over the endangerment of jockeys lives and the general public surely shows how rotten to the core this crew of despots are....for a deputy chief steward of qrl to allow not one but 2 races to proceed with no ambulance following the field and the same ambulance abandoned on the course proper-yep in front of the winning post is testament to th low-missing integrity that poor silly dribblin bob espouses....ditto

To his credit, PP on his Justracing website did bag the Cushion Track as the Toowoomba main course pretty well. Given his comments on that topic it is hard to perceive him as a QRL noticeboard.

Bob Bentley will be dumped if LNP wins election
Article from: Courier Mail
Michael Crutcher
March 02, 2009 11:00pm
ONE of Queensland sport's most controversial figures will be sacked if Labor loses office as the Coalition courts a divided racing industry.

Bob Bentley will be dumped as Queensland Racing chairman if the Liberal National Party wins the March 21 election after his long-running battle with the Opposition racing spokesman Mike Horan.

Last month, Mr Bentley labelled Mr Horan a "dinosaur" and as someone whose "achievements in racing could be written on a postage stamp with a carpenter's pencil".

He was responding to a speech in Parliament, where Mr Horan described Mr Bentley as a "dictator".

"I do not believe he is fit to hold the job and I believe that the minister should step in and get rid of Queensland Racing and Mr Bentley," Mr Horan told Parliament.

The headline, no doubt,  is the work of a sub editor ,nowhere in the body of Michael Crutcher's story is there any statement by Horan that Bob will be sacked .He's relying on Horan's speech in State Parliament a few weeks ago.Whether Horan  reiterated that  off the record as his intention may or may not be the case.

But while there is significant antipathy towards Bob Bentley and possibly other Directors there are a couple of obstacles that Horan has to clear before being in a position to bring about any changes in the management of the racing industry.

First the LNP has to win government and despite the ALP's numerous failings and IMO   it doesn't deserve  to win  even though  the opposition is suspect  it will require a massive swing for LNP to top them on election day.
Secondly as indicated in the QRL press release posted by DD  QRL is not  a statutory authority but a limited company and the Directors are elected by the 15 or so representative comprising Class A members and is  licensed to control racing to 2012.So it won't be an easy task to dismantle QRL and/or sack Bob Bentley simply because Horan doesn't like him or that sections of the industry hate him as we've seen evidence of on this forum and elsewhere.

I had to laugh yesterday in Obi's CM EAR column he remarked on rumours that the control  of racing would revert to the QTC adding that the QTC wont exist having mergeed with the BTC to form the BRC .It would be  a million to one imo  and drifting for this to happen and no sensible person would support this IF and it's a pretty big IF the LNP happens to get over the line on Mar 21.

So Bob's  appeal to both parties to disclose their Racing policy imo is a good move, one that assuming they respond will be of benefit to all of us with an interest in the game.More to come. Thumb Up

Arsenal, I agree with you about the odds of Obi's rumour.

However, the article in the paper today had this quote:

Quote
"I do not believe he is fit to hold the job and I believe that the minister should step in and get rid of Queensland Racing and Mr Bentley," Mr Horan told Parliament.

If it is LNP policy to get rid of Queensland Racing, then they probably should tell us what they are going to replace it with ?

the swing you seem to think is too much of a ask is 7.3 per cent i think.......thats gunna be easy as racing stakeholders are in the major major majority wanting to see him punted
queensland voters who will be responsible for the swing have been waiting with baseball bats for months....the many that know understand how broken we are and how much of a liar bligh after her "im going full term" and under 2 weeks later launches her victorian website and calls a snap early election have joined the team...labor promises tax rises lnp none....labor promises to fudge all their upcoming court cases the lnp will not....to give these broken corrupted and incompetant labor stooges another 3 years...please! why did she call a election again? beware cornered rats on the sinking hmas blight they will do and say anything to avoid the voters rat-sack
hi bob and the spinners...you out there porky
