fair dinkum

is there EVER a post re the Adelaide or Brisbane Cups without someone whining about field strengths etc

as a horse owner I would be so rapt to own a horse good enough to run in this race

the time and effort put in to get them to this day would be well worth the money on offer

Did u say the same re the Hobart Cup as well a few weeks ago ?

Can you show proof of any better 3200m horses in the country ?

You wouldn't have to be a 3200 horse to win it.
Viewed and No Wine No Song are running around at the moment to name a couple.
We need horses like Reckless

This a "group 2" those two would be weighted out of it.

Well we need horses running around with 68kg in 2 mile events, it creates interest if nothing else.
The way it is, they may as well not run the race, no-one gives a root about it.
Horses these days need to harden the censored  up.

If you dont like sa racin gor adelaide cup WHY open a topic in the sa gallops section called Adelaide cup?  I'm not that interested in Brisbane racing but I dont go into that section then bag out a $100,000 mare race.  Nor is it worth bagging out the gr 1 wa derby.

Considering how it was starting to fall away with people talking about spells and nz cups there are some good quality stayers engaged and the usual up and coming types plus a gr 1 brisbane cup winner.  Even when it was attracting the best stayers you didnt often get the sydney stayers  as they were aiming at Sydney in March/April and would indeed probably get too much weight.  Gallic the race winner only 2 years back didnt do too badly later on in Sydney.

You could put this race a week after the melbourne Cup and get a better field.

It's very poor for a G2, is all I'm saying, very poor. In my humble opinion for which I'm allowed to express

with banana man and zavite weighted on 58 and 57.5 respectively, hate to think what a good horse would get,not detracting from the top 2,but fk a G2 and thats the weight they get

I think Kerdem can win this time honored handicap.

I'd imagine he'll sit back last smoking his pipe and come with a withering burst down the outside.

This is a replay of Banana Man and Kerdem and maybe some others at Moonee Valley of the 27th of Feb.

Wily,

That is a good idea.  I wold actually have thought 3 weeks after the Cup, or the Saturday after the Sandown Classic.  You would have the horses coming through the Melbourne Cup, as well as the SAAB and the 2800m race on Cup day, and would probably entice Sydney horses who were already in Melbourne to think about having a go.

This brings us to the other problem these races have, the way horses are trained in this country.  If this was Europe or North America, horses like No Wine No Song and Viewed etc would use this a prep race for the Sydney Cup, in Aus those horses run in prep races over shorter trips.  In the old days this came after a race like the Duke of Norfolk, and it would probably be better off say 2 weeks later with the Duke of Norfolk on this weekend.
