A top quality line up in Deaville this afternoon for the Gr1 Prix D'Astarte over a mile for fillies and mares. Simply Perfect, Darjina and Mi Emma clash along with dark horses like All Is Vanity, Utrecht, Lokaloka and . Throw in the likes of Missvinski along with last year's second placegetter Impressionnante and you have one hot race. A shame Finsceal Beo has been over faced and couldn't make the line up. Mind you she's a chance to show up at Goodwood next week.

There's been a great meeting at Saratoga this weekend with three Gr1 races run overnight. Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense steps out this evening where he faces Sightseeing and the promising Tiznow rig Tiz Wonderful. C P West is also engaged but Street Sense has always had his measure.

Rain about in Deaville and Darjina still a threat to be withdrawn.

Aussie interest in Germany today as well with Kerrin McEvoy riding Formal Decree for Godolphin in the Gr1 Grosser Preis. The main dangers he faces look to be logical favourite and local hero Soldier Hollow along with the Clive Brittain trained five year old Hattan.

The rain held off and the ground remained just good enough for Darjina to take her place. In the end Darjina was too classy in spite of the fact she looked uncomfortable on the dampened surface. Further riches await this quality filly.

I've just seen a very hot Maiden from Ascot. The winner Atlantic Sport was most impressive. I wouldn't mind betting a few involved there win some very decent races in the future. By Machiavellian he's a half brother to a Gr1 miler. A lot more to come from Atlantic Sport and runner up Skadrak.
