Does anyone know what the deal is with these types of races ? Is it just an arbitary thing or prizemoney-related ?

Max

It's traditional - as you'd realise, I know.  I'd think the aim is the maintain the handicap relativity while attracting the top rank of jockey.

Was  just wondering if all races over a certain prizemoney threshold were non-claiming events, probably not that simple.

think black type and the odd higher prisemoney race, occasionally a bush quality has no claim. though  you do see the odd race with higher prisemoney where apprentices can claim.  what

Doing a little research and wanted to weed out non-claiming races, only way I could easily do that would be eliminate races say, 100k and up, would catch most, probably.

Looking at todays races, 75k seems about the mark.

It seems we don't know.

Take the 5th at Morphettvile today. Why can't apprentices claim in this R81 Hcp, yet can in the 7th race?

What we DO KNOW is they can not claim in black type races.

Obviously clubs in their wisdom throw certain conditions into their races for whatever reasons nobody could ever fathom.
