One of the best bred mares on the planet finally enhanced her value with a Gr1 success at Saratoga on the weekend. Mind you it's unlikely that anything by Giant's Causeway out of Urban Sea needs too much black type to boost its value. My Typhoon missed the Breeders Cup meeting as a three year old ( taking a Gr2 race elsewhere around that time ) before running sixth to Ouija Board last year at four. She really doesn't stay the BC F&M Turf distance so the weekend's Saratoga victory looks to be her day of glory.
Over in Germany Soldier Hollow continued his consistent run of form to take the Gr1 Grosser Dallmayr Preis. Starke settled the seven year old midfield before swooping on the lead with about 300m to go. Soldier Hollow kept going strongly to the line to take the prize easily. Kerrin McEvoy on Formal Decree settled second and took up the running briefly but was no match for the winner. Hattan finished fourth after holding that position for most of the race.
Street Sense tuned up for his autumn campaign with a solid victory at Saratoga in the Gr2 Jim Dandy Stakes. He was warmly received by the large crowd, many of whom will be back at the same course for his next run in the Travers. From there Street Sense is likely to tackle the Jockey Club Gold Cup before a crack at the Breeders Classic.
