Exactas and quinellas often suprise me to the upside and am a fan of playing them when at least one of my top 2 rated horses is $8 or more or both are $5+. Below that value diminishes.

Any2 to the downside and avoid them.

If you are surprised by Exactas and Quinellas then that merely confirms your inadequacy.

The approximate dividends are readily available, vastly reducing the scope for surprise.

And your inadequacy is reemphasised by claiming that Duets are somehow inferior.

Their (not so easy to find) rakes are ~no worse than their counterparts.

If you work out the "correct" odds for an exotic bet based on the assumption that it is analagous to drawing marbles from a barrel, where the number of marbles representing each conveyance is proportional to its win odds, you will arrive at the wrong answer. And that is especially true where there is a short-priced favourite. They miss the place far more often than the marbles-from-the-barrel theory would allow. If they did follow the theory, quarter odds the place for even money chances would be a soda.

50c unit and 15% take-out.

On that basis the  actual pool must  be $62 less 15% =$52.70 which is close enough Thumb Up
