Programming in this country is censored ed.

Off the top of my head I can only think of 3 Group 1's for fillys and mares for the whole season and 2 of them are run on the same day.

When one of the two major carnivals is based around phases of the moon, it gets tricky.

Hasnt the Sangster been run on Adelaide Cup day for the last few years?

If they left it there it would have been a chance to be used as a lead up into the Coolmore and they would have got a better field.

The sangster has never been run on Adelaide Cup day.  It was run on MM day for a year or so.  Isnt one mares race over 1500m and the otehr over 1200m?

The Magic Millions day and the Cup day were the same day this year. This race should have been on the same day.

Why wouldnt they run the 1200m mares race 2 weeks before the 1500m mares race because plenty of horses including the favourites in the Coolmore would have been very competitive in both and the Sangster field would have been better.

Its not like there are Group 1 mares races every 2nd month.

Then again thats why SA racing is on the fast track to irrelevancy.

why should an Adelaide Gr 1 for sprinting mares be a lead up to a 1500m mares race for sprinter milers at Rosehill.  Let Sydney and their carnival by the moon sort out their dates.  It always has attracted a good field despite moving around a bit - its currently nicely placed two weeks after the newmarket and before the Sydney carnival sprints.  Many strong entries would not be there if it had been run two days after Newmarket day

There were plenty enough feature races on Adel CUp day and this Saturday is the next carnival raceday with its two group 1s it will be followed by several other stakes race days leading up to the other Group 1 day in May.

There is 2 group 1 races in the sydney autumn for F&M - The coolmore and the queen of the turf.

There is 1 group 1 race for F&M in the melb srping - the myer stakes

There is 1 group 1 race in the winter for qld - winter stakes

Then there is the adelaide group 1 race which is the shortest as the others range from 1400m to 1600m.

I do agree however the programming of group 1 races in australia is a huge issue especially when the number of group 1 race standard horses are not that many.

The prizemoney of group 1 races should be a minimum of 500k with bonuses paid out by relevant clubs to multiple winners or placegetters. I still find hard to fathom sometimes because of the programming, that the group 1 Australian guineas and the randwick guineas were only a week apart.

The shrinking of staying racehorse numbers also does not add much to the spectacle of the 2000m + wfa races as there are only a few winning chances.

I think you will find Sydney has sorted out their dates - these will be the dates for the next three years and whoever lands on Easter Saturday gets to race then.  However, I agree with your sentiment about the race not being a lead up - it is Group 1 for gods sake.  Why should it be a lead up to anything?

There is only one real group 1 race for fillies and mares run in Sydney in the autumn and it is on in 2 weeks time.

The 3yo fillies have this race in their keeping. Romneya and Champagne Harmony and Impressive Eagle are the testing material, they really should fight it out Kirvinsky and Damselfly are also chances. I doubt the older females will see which way they went.

Champagne Harmony, Romneya and especially Empressive Eagle look good value at this early stage in betting.

Backing Impressive Eagle is like licking LSD.  From barrier 20 she'll miss the start, fight the jockey, go for a wide run then get blocked for a run anyway, hang in, turn sideways, drift out, look gone at the turn, look the winner at the 200m and finally come somewhere between 1st and 10th.  At $18 it sounds like a hell of a trip to me.  But if you're more the conservative type, surely Absolut Glam from barrier 2 at the weights is a compelling each way bet.
