Matthew Cant was flown to a Brisbane hospital with serious injuries after a horrendous six-horse fall in the second race, which led to the abandonment of the Rockhampton Gold Cup card at Callaghan Park Racecourse on Saturday.
Cant's mount, All Royal, was racing on the outside, contesting the lead with eventual winner Lord Sutch, when arguably, it appeared to slip and fall nearing the 425 metre mark as the field was to enter the home straight.
All Royal's fall triggered a spectacular, albeit horrific domino effect, with five other horses, Zipabaldy (
Ken Pope), Stylish Wan (
Darryl Johnston), Our Gold Crown (
John Stephens), Tobindi (
Mark Barnham) and Dee Cee Dee (
Luke Dillon),crashing and colliding and dumping their jockeys on to the track.
