I’ve been thinking about how I bet and have decided that I’m betting too many races, my limited analysis time is being spread too thin and my investments have become haphazard.

So I’ve decided to focus my brain and only bet on Black Type races until the end of the year. I’m also instigating a more structured betting approach and better record keeping.

I’m a rather competitive S.O.B. and I’ve found in the past that the forum competitions actually help with my motivation and focus.

So, I’ve decided to run a competition structured around my resolutions to help me remain on course.

The competition will be the:

Black Type Competition

Draft Rules 1

i) Each player starts with a bank of 200 units.

ii) Investments can only be made on Australian gallop races which are Black Type.  i.e.  Listed and Group 1, 2 & 3 races only.

iii) Investments may commence from March 28th.

iv) Only one entry (nic) per player.

v) The competition will be restricted to the first twenty-five players who respond, however any player that participated in the Heads Up competition I ran last year may join up to and including April 4th.

vi) The maximum investment on any single race is the higher of 25 units or 10% of the player’s bank at the beginning of that days racing, as long as the player has sufficient funds.

vii) Players cannot make total investments for a day totalling more than the amount available in their bank at the beginning of that days racing.

viii) Investments can be win, place or win and place and if you bet win and place you can bet varying amounts for the win and place.

ix) Investments can only be made in whole units.

x) Investments for a particular day must be posted by noon Melbourne time, however if an investment is made on a race with a starting time earlier than 12.30pm Melbourne time, investments on that race must be posted at least 30 minutes before the starting time of the particular race. (Edit: this rule will be adhered to 100%. If your early race is 12.15 and you post at 11.46 it won't count. If you post at 12.01pm it won't count. The time showing on the post is the time taken. No concession will be made for computer/server problems etc.)

xi) For clarification, if a player is betting on a race with a start time prior to 12.30pm Melbourne time, they may post their bets for that particular race in the required time and then post bets for later races up to the noon deadline. However, the total bet on each race or total committed for the entire day (including the early race) is still restricted by rule (iii). (i.e. you can’t win on the early race then re-invest)

xii) Investments cannot be cancelled after posting and players are not to edit posts.

xiii) Multiple posts are allowed as long as they are made in good time.

xiv) If there is a conflict between names and numbers in any bet, names will be taken.

xv) If more than the maximum amount is bet on any race or committed for a day’s investment, bets will be counted in post order until the maximum is reached and then any further bets will be cancelled.

xvi) Dividends used will be the highest of the three totes or the last available Betfair bet price.

xvii) If a player’s bank drops to a level less than one unit, the player is eliminated.

xviii) The competition will run until and include the Saturday before the Melbourne Cup.

xix) To be considered for a prize a player must have a total investment throughout the competition of at least 200 units.

xx) I reserve the right to interpret the rules as I see fit throughout the competiton.

xxi) The four players with the highest banks at the end of the competition will receive the following prizes.
a) First - $50 Unitab investment on the Melbourne Cup
b) Second - $30 Unitab investment on the Melbourne Cup
c) Third - $10 Unitab investment on the Melbourne Cup
d) Fourth - $10 Unitab investment on the Melbourne Cup

viii) Investments can be win and/or place only.

I don't want to be cynical, but that's saying no win only, it's saying win & place or place only.

I doubt whether this will be an issue. How many black type races are held 12.15 or earlier?

Also Slipper Day could come into play.
