Raise, Rena's Lady, Operetta Lass, Wild Iris - the previous winners didn't exactly have mind numbing form. Don't think any had won blacktype prior to this race - most hadn't even contested blacktype think you'll find. So it's entirely consistent.

It's run one week after a similar race. It's always going to be a race for the hopefuls. Some will go on plenty wont.

My main query was  questioning whether it's any different to most years.

Spring Champion and TJ Smith [Qld] has always struck me as questionable G1's...but 2&3yo blacktype races can tend to get generous assessments. Neither fazes me that much though.

I look at the juvenile races as indicators of future good horses and look at the open class races as being the races that should stand up to scrutiny.

Spring Champion?  I would have thought that although there are a few here that didn't go on with it, overall, they compare favourably with the Vic Derby winners?

I'm warming to Above Perfection. Her run last start seemed pretty good for this lot.
