I'm open to offers - Williams Brad Waters (racenet) Sunday, 12 April 2009
Craig Williams, fresh from a winning treble at Randwick, is desperate to link full-time with a major stable.
Williams, whose Easter Saturday haul included the Group I Galaxy on the David Hayes-trained Nicconi, said he would be open to offers to again become a retained jockey.
“I would love to be a full-time stable jockey for a trainer,” he revealed.
“I love test driving all the horses. “I feel like I achieve a lot more and enjoy that a lot more than just jumping on and riding winners.
“I enjoy the ride of getting the horses to the races and winning much more.”
Williams joined Hayes as a full-time stable jockey when he returned from Hong Kong before the trainer suggested the rider broaden his horizons and chase more outside rides.
“David and I had a meeting and discussed where we are at,” Williams said.
“David still supports me and I’ve ridden three Group I winners for David in the autumn so it’s been great.
“It was one of those things. We weren’t making mistakes but the results weren’t coming but David still supports me 100 percent.”
Williams believes trainers who employ stable jockeys are getting superior results to those who book freelance riders.
“If you have a look at the most successful stables around, they employ stable jockeys,” he said.
“They know how the trainer likes to train, how the trainer likes their horses ridden and the jockey knows where the horse is in their preparation so they gain an advantage.
“The Snowden stable is having success and Lee Freedman is leading the premiership and he employs a stable jockey. It just proves that it is very effective having a stable jockey in my view.
“But it’s not the Australian way. I don’t know why but it’s the Australian training culture. Maybe it will change.”

Craig Williams will appeal against the severity only of a 10-meeting careless riding suspension which as it stands bans him from riding Vigor in the $2.5 million Caulfield Cup on Saturday week.
Williams was outed over his ride on Maldivian in the Group One Turnbull Stakes at Flemington last Saturday.
Racing Victoria stewards found Williams guilty of failing to make sufficient effort to prevent Maldivian from shifting in when insufficiently clear of Predatory Pricer resulting in severe tightening to Roman Emperor, Red Ruler and Vigor.
The Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board will hear the appeal at 10.30am (AEDT) on Monday.
Williams' suspension begins after Saturday's Caulfield meeting where he has been engaged to ride Trusting in the Group One $1 million Caulfield Guineas.
He will also ride Epsom Handicap winner Rock Kingdom in the Group One Toorak Handicap.
Apart from the Caulfield Cup ride on Vigor, as the suspension stands Williams will also miss the mount on My Emotion in the Group One Thousand Guineas at Caulfield next Wednesday.
At this stage he is free to resume race riding on Geelong Cup day, October 21.

Having no luck at the moment C. Williams, not in the best of form perhaps.. Just watch though, he'll come out and ride half the card somewhere sometime soon.

By Caryl Williamson Sydney Monday 28 December 2009, 6:16pm Craig Williams will ride leading contender Triple Crown in the $2 million Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast.
Trainer Gary Portelli snapped up Williams to partner the filly who put her credentials on the line when she beat Ambers Waltz at Randwick on Saturday.
Although Portelli admitted the reigning Magic Millions favourite was unlucky after getting back then racing wide, he was proud of the way the diminutive Triple Crown stuck to her task.
"She has come through the race just fine, she is very tough," Portelli said.
"The other horse was unlucky but my filly is a little fighter and she just kept going.
"She is a ready made racehorse but she is only tiny and that's one reason I wanted Craig Williams.
"He is a small jockey and I didn't want a tall rider on such a little filly.
"She would be lucky to be 15.1 hands.
"Craig is also very professional, he does the form, he knows what is going on so I'm very pleased to have him aboard."
A four-time Melbourne premiership winner, Williams split with trainer David Hayes in October and has been riding freelance since they parted ways.

Craig Williams
Champion jockey Craig Williams will miss next week's Group One William Reid Stakes meeting at Moonee Valley after being suspended at Caulfield.
Williams was found guilty of careless riding on Carbon Trader who caused Old Jock to clip heels and almost dislodge apprentice Jason Maskiell in Saturday's Selangor Turf Club Handicap (2000m).
After the incident near the 250m, Carbon Trader went on to finish third but favourite Old Jock ($3.90) dropped out and finished second last.
Chief steward Terry Bailey said the careless riding was in the mid-range and warranted a 12-meeting suspension which starts at midnight on Monday, allowing Williams to ride Bangerang Quikpic in the Hobart Cup.

Nothing at all is sacred in this countries racing is it ?
How did this sequence change without so much as a bleep ?

The sequence changed a few years ago when the MVRC decided the Australia Stakes was run too early to attract a good field amd moved it from late January to second week in February,
For some crazy reason the "powers" made it a leg of the global sprint challenge and it seemed to take over from the Oakleigh Plate as a part of the "treble"
Now it is no longer part of that series, and they have changed the name back to the William Reid but it is still (wrongly imo) placed to interfere with the traditional sprint treble

Used up his get out of card with that ride.
Horse won it inspite of the ride - flawed analysis of punters means they wont care - but I thought that was a pretty average effort. Would flick the rider.
