Bowman tipping Racing To Win improvement
Clinton Payne
Tuesday, 21 April 2009

Five-time Group I winner Racing To Win is expected to be close to his best in Saturday’s All-Aged Stakes at Randwick.

The six-year-old has had an indifferent campaign after a setback stopped his expected return in the Group II Canterbury Stakes at Rosehill on March 21.

Not since he was a two-year-old has Racing To Win had consecutive race starts over 1200 metres and on Saturday he steps to a distance he’s always excelled over.

“We are going into Saturday more suited as this has been the race John [O’Shea] has set him for,” regular jockey Hugh Bowman said.

“We go up to 1400 metres which will give him a chance to settle in the race.

“They just went along too quick in the T J Smith. Saturday he’ll be third up going in fit and healthy to a race in which he won last year.”

Further emphasising Racing To Win’s desire for the 1400 metre journey is his record of four wins and two seconds over the distance.

Randwick clocker Craig Tompson has watched Racing To Win closely throughout his current campaign and feels he did enough on Saturday when working home late in the T J Smith.

“I think he’s got a genuine chance in what’s going to be a hard race,” Tompson said.

Shinn lands Marasco ride in All Aged Stakes
Brad Waters
Wednesday, 22 April 2009

Premier Sydney jockey Blake Shinn will ride Perth raider Marasco in Saturday’s All-Aged Stakes at Randwick.

Shinn was originally booked to ride Northern Meteor for Gai Waterhouse but was told to seek another ride on Tuesday after connections decided to retire the colt.

Shinn’s manager Reece Murphy immediately contacted Marasco’s trainer Fred Kersley for the ride and the affirmative reply came back to Murphy on Wednesday morning.

The jockey is likely to go into Saturday’s race without sitting Marasco’s back as the six-year-old is staying at Team Hawkes’s Rosehill stable while in Sydney while Shinn predominantly rides trackwork for Gai Waterhouse at Randwick.
Shinn will ride Common Objective for Waterhouse in the Sydney Cup and Zarita for Melbourne trainer Pat Hyland in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes
