MARASCO

Marasco hoping to earn rite passage to Queensland
Brad Waters
Monday, 20 April 2009

Perth star Marasco will put his Brisbane winter carnival credentials on the line when he races right-handed for the first time in the All-Aged Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.

Marasco’s career has been restricted to racing in Perth and Melbourne and trainer Fred Kersley says the six-year-old will be stepping into the unknown against a red-hot weight-for-age field.

“I would call his right handed experience very limited,” Kerseley said.

“He has had very little opportunity to be tried right-handed because he’s done all of his racing on left handed tracks in Melbourne and Perth.

“It’s a major consideration when considering his chances, his lack of experience that way of going, but he travelled over there well enough and that’s the first step.”

However Kersley said he would be reluctant to start Marasco on a rain-affected track.

“A bog track would see us scratch him but the ideal situation is for him to run and run well to show us that he can go right-handed,” he said.

“The plan would be then to go to Brisbane for the Doomben 10,000 and the Stradbroke Handicap, providing he gets a decent weight in the Stradbroke.”

Marasco arrived in Sydney at the weekend and is stabled with John Hawkes at Rosehill. Kersely said earlier reports about Marasco’s condition were promising.

“I’m still in Perth but I got a message from John Hawkes to say he’s in good physical condition and travelled well on the plane to Melbourne and on the float to Sydney,” Kersley said.

Kersley had hoped for Damien Oliver to ride Marasco but Oliver has elected to ride the Chris Waller-trained Danleigh.
“I won’t have any trouble finding someone to ride him, it’s a Group I race, they’ll be ringing me,” Kersley said.

If they moved these races to Melbourne it would improve his chances of winning.

Gee, you'd be a brave punter to take odds about ANYTHING in the current TAB Fixed Odds market.

My spreadsheet locked up as I tried to calculate the market percentage.

AAMI Stradbroke Day brings out the finest fashion
QRL media release

The countdown is on for this year’s AAMI Stradbroke Day, Queensland’s grandest racing event, which means it’s time for the fashion conscious to start organising their outfits.

AAMI Stradbroke Day attracts nearly 20,000 punters each year, and picking the right outfit is almost as important as selecting the right horse.

This year, MYER Fashions on the Field is moving to an exciting new location at Eagle Farm Racecourse – the Derby Lawn behind the Main Grandstand.  The new location, with its’ leafy canopies and manicured lawn, is the ideal setting for MYER Fashions on the Field.  The competition will run for a longer period, giving more time than ever before, to those who want to enjoy the outfits and the judges more time to decide the winner.

This year, MYER National Racing Ambassador Rebecca Twigley, will join the esteemed judging panel of industry experts.

Getting frocked up could pay off for fashionable ladies and gents with generous prizes on offer at the MYER Fashions on the Field competition.  Though entrants be warned, the competition is fiercely competitive!

]Dale Olsson, The Hat Box owner advises:

“Correct headwear for race day is a must.  The style for hats this season is vintage and small brimmed.  Cocktail hats are a nice alternative for those who want more than a fascinator but don’t want to wear a hat.  Feathery fascinators are still trendy, easy to track down and also a bit of fun.”

Last year’s winner, Laura Gleich, gives a few hints to help those planning to enter the competition.

“You need to acknowledge that it is the Winter Racing Carnival and so look elegant by adding stockings and gloves to complete the outfit.  The men need to look at the cut of their suit and ensure that it fits correctly.

“I think we will see people using vintage this year to update their key pieces.  You do not have to spend a fortune to look good at MYER Fashions on the Field and raiding your family’s wardrobe for heirloom items could make the outfit stand out.”

The new MYER Fashions on the Field enclosure is not the only new fashion event at the 2009 AAMI Stradbroke.  Also new for this year is the Fashion Marquee.  At $85 per person, fashion lovers will enjoy an exquisite High Tea lunch menu and hospitality package.  Also including racecourse admission, this ticket is exceptional value leaving more dollars to be spent on racegoers fabulous frocks!

AAMI Stradbroke Day is always one of excitement and it’s a sure fire bet the spectators will be in their finest fashions to watch the action.
Thumb Up

Crikey! All must be forgiven or maybe its just  business is business.

Last I heard she was "incensed" after the ladies didn't get a guernsey to sit on the BRC board.

Was an eye-catching run by EL CAMBIO on Saturday.

He was hemmed on the fence most of the straight, and looked impressive as he powered home.

He was considered a top threat in last year's Straddy, but the stable's confidence plummeted when the rains came.

Right now he's $11 for the Straddy.  Bit shy about that when the odds of rain is 1/1. Sad

Is Private Steer 5 years ago the last Stradbroke winner to win another race?
