Imagine being in the scrum with em Mono.  I was with the owners on the outside rail.  They went ape.  You had to be there to describe it.  I had my camera knocked out of my hands and my little sister finished up in the middle of the group hug.  We spent a couple of minutes picking through the rose bushes looking for a few sets of sunglasses that went flying.  What a buzz.

I can not imagine people being happier than winning one of the iconic races of the Australian turf.

From brisbanetimes.com.au:

Piranha salutes at last amid the drama

Craig Young
June 8, 2009

ONE member of the vast Black Piranha cheer squad ended up in Royal Brisbane Hospital on Saturday. Tommy Long remains in hospital after suffering a heart attack soon after arriving at Eagle Farm.

"He came in, we got him tickets to go and enjoy it with all my workmates and colleagues in the leger," Chris Wood, a part-owner of Black Piranha, revealed yesterday. "He went 20 metres, had to sit down, he had a heart attack."

Black Piranha collected a deserved group 1 when charging home to win Queensland racing's premier race, the Stradbroke Handicap. It ended an exasperating run of seconds in majors for Black Piranha, in the George Ryder, Doncaster and Doomben 10,000.

It was a triumph for 24-year-old trainer Con Karakatsanis and a 19-year-old former star apprentice and one-time bull rider named Tye Angland.

For Wood it was a day not to be forgotten. "It took four years to get Tommy to the races to watch this horse," he said.

Wood operates a couple of tow trucks out of Miami on the Gold Coast. The 36-year-old also runs a panel shop. He met the Karakatsanis team at the Grafton Cup carnival several years ago. He met John Karakatsanis, the uncle of Con, whose father Tony parted with $46,000 to buy Black Piranha.

John Karakatsanis is Black Piranha's chiropractor. He recalls Black Piranha lunging out of its stable and biting him on the shoulder while Tony was inspecting another yearling at the Magic Millions sale.

Wood, who had had a couple of racehorses, liked the way the Karakatsanis team operated and took up an opportunity to buy into Black Piranha. It has been some ride.

Wood and the owner of the panel shop he runs organised for 25 employees and colleagues to attend Eagle Farm for what promised to be a memorable day. Not many people get to share in a Stradbroke favourite.

"From a high to a low to a high again," Wood said.

The ambulance may have been carting Long off to hospital but the 63-year-old made sure Wood stayed to watch Black Piranha perform.

"He was asking the paramedics who won the Stradbroke, he backed the horse," John Karakatsanis said.

Soon after Black Piranha won, connections of the gelding skipped, danced, embraced and lifted each other up.

The parade ring was rocking. Wood's part was minor, for he had other things on his mind. "Tommy has to stay in hospital for a week," he said. "He has got to get a couple of stents put in his heart."

Wood is hopeful Long will eventually get to see the horse race. Four years and counting
