Just bought a cheap scooter off of eBay, not running, but not very old, with low K's, an Arquin 4 stroke metro4 or something.

Anyway the guy I bought it from, said it was possible the scooter wasn't running because there could be some moisture in the magneto and to give it a wipe.

Now my question is where do I find the magneto, what is it, and what does it do ?

By the way, I have googled with not much joy, and also assume the magneto is something similar to points in a car that cause the field in the coil to collapse and cause the spark to the spark plug right ?

The spark is not very strong and very intermittent, so I am assuming it is something electrical Undecided

Magic,
Welcome to the 2 wheeled world thumbsup
Just a shame it's a scooter chin
The magneto produces a low voltage charge and converts it into a high voltage charge to make the spark jump the gap.
I doubt there is still water in the casing. But if it has had water in it there might be some corrosion of the coil in the fly wheel more than likely on the fine coil armature. If it has corrosion on it just get a toothbrush and brush it with tomato sauce or a mixture of lemon juice and vinegar.
