Hefty Price For Tiger Derby Entry
Wednesday, 22 April 2009: Cranbourne trainer Cindy Alderson may pay a hefty price for being tardy with the Queensland Derby entry of The Tiger.

Alderson, who was at barrier trials at the time when the entries were due on Monday, missed the deadline by a couple of hours.

She was dismayed to find the original $825 nomination fee, for the Group 1 race on June 6, will now be $13,750 for missing the 11am deadline.

So upset was the staff member in charge of the nominations she resigned.

Alderson fully admits the buck stops with her but now is not sure whether to enter the gelding.

She has until May 27 to make the late entry fee.

The Tiger, who finished 12th in the Victoria Derby after winning the Geelong Classic, ran a top race fresh when runner-up over a mile at Moonee Valley.

Alderson said The Tiger  is likely to have his second-up run at Flemington in Saturday's Listed Auckland Racing Club Handicap, where he takes on the older horses with 53kg.

Honestly how dumb do you have to be? She had all the time in the world and leaves it to the last minute? How is this a calamity?

If I was involved in the connections, I would be asking the trainer to pay the difference if she was supposed to do it and did not. If she does not pay then give the horse to another trainer and sue for the difference.

CINDY Alderson slammed Queensland racing for demanding she pay a $13,700 late-entry fee for The Tiger to start in June's Queensland Derby.

Alderson's secretary missed Monday's 11am first-entry deadline by about 2 1/2 hours.

"I have no problem with a late-entry fee at all," Alderson said.

"But we missed it by a couple of hours and the race is six weeks away.

"They're charging about six grand for every hour we missed the deadline.

"What's wrong with a reasonable sliding scale? Everyone makes mistakes. Our secretary was so mortified she resigned."

Alderson and fellow part-owners have until May 27 to pay the fee.

"I'm not sure what we'll do now," she said.

The Tiger, who won last year's The Classic at Geelong before finishing unplaced in the Victoria Derby, resumed with an eye-catching second on Saturday at Moonee Valley.

Jeune is right, every one makes mistakes but ther owner shouldnt be out of pocket $12 925 because the trainer and or trainers staff are disorganised.

If it was my horse and the trainer didnt pay the difference I would be looking for a new stable.

That's true BW but she should accept that and move on. Why publicise a mistake unless she is trying to prove a point. I am looking at the owner's point of view, yes, she did make a mistake but why should the owners pay the penalty for the mistake. From memory, The Tiger did beat the eventual VRC wiiner and SA derby favourite Rebel Raider in that race. At the end of the day, with no offence to the secretary and Cindy Anderson, it is not like they have a stable of world beaters to worry about.

I am probably being harsh but people do mistakes however if you don't pay for it, then you never really learn.

This was a more expensive mistake given that it was the best 2yo in Australia in the Spring.

Rostova a late entry for Golden Slipper
Friday, 27 March 2009:

Connections of Victorian filly Rostova will pay the $150,000 late entry fee for Saturday week's $3.5 million Golden Slipper after she handled the Sydney way of going with ease in a barrier trial at Randwick on Friday.

In the Rostova case, they may not have even thought of her racing as a 2yo when entries close.

The Tiger, well that is just unacceptable surely there is a month or two that they are taking entries for races, why leave it to the last minute, that is not a mistake that is laziness ?

I find it hard to believe the staff member resigned without being pushed as the article above implies.

More to the point does his/ her employer have a case to answer in the Industrial Court.  The Media Alliance Union which covers the racing industrty should be right onto this.
